Cake Decorating

I recently saw an advert on TV for a new magazine, Cake Decorating. I tend to stay away from these type of publications which build up in to a set as, after the first issue, the price shoots up and you can end up paying hundreds of pounds for the entire collection.

I didn't think it would harm to buy the first issue though, it was only 99p and came with two butterfly cutters and some pink glitter. I haven't had a good read through it yet, but after a quick flick I can see that it is rather good. Not only does it tell you how to decorate cakes and cookies, but it also has recipes in it too. I don't really have enough patience for cake decorating myself, but I'm sure that Eleanor would love to give it a go.

I've spent this morning in the kitchen, first of all making lasagne for tomorrow's dinner as Eleanor is competing in a singing festival late afternoon, so now all I have to do is shove the lasagne in the oven when we get home. I made enough to freeze one too. Then I made some Caramel Shortbread. This is another recipe from Attic24. I'm making my way through Lucy's recipes as they're all so easy, and so delicious. These are a batch I made last week, today's are still setting in the fridge.

I can tell you, it's very hard to stick to healthy eating when there's these scrummy goodies in the house.

  3. I ended up with 2 copies of the magazine. My Husband brought 1 home and my Sister bought 1 for me. Like yourself I'm not into collecting partworks but the cupcake stands will come in handy.

    Your caramel shortbread looks delicious.

  4. I also bought two copies because it was such great value (not at £3.99 though!) Did you read the back of the sparkles? It said not edible.....thought that was the whole point of cakes! Enjoy the singing festival x

  5. Hi Jo, ooh can I come for tea please? They look yummy. I bought the first copy for my daughter who loves to bake and today she talked me into getting her the second one because she wanted the piping bags. But you're right, it is quite good but not sure if I can afford to get them all. Maybe when there's something really good being given away. Lots of love xxx

  8. Thank you very much for all your lovely comments.

Grace - I hadn't read the label on the glitter until you mentioned it. How ridiculous to include these when they're not edible, I don't think I'll bother using them now.

Lisa - Thank you very much for your good luck wishes, I think they helped.

  10. It is good, Victoria, it's just a shame that the price jumps up after the first issue.
