Slow Progress

I wanted my Spice Of Life Crochet Along blanket to be a project which lasted over winter and that's exactly what it's going to be, there's no sign of me finishing it in the near future. In fact, I've added just three colours to it since I last posted about it at the beginning of November.

To be fair, I've been busy with other things since then and crochet has taken a back seat somewhat but as I've said before, I don't mind a blanket being worked up over quite a period of time. They're big projects and not to be rushed in my opinion. The whole point of embarking on something so big is to enjoy the process and I can't do that if I'm working to deadlines so slow and steady it will be and each stitch crocheted will be enjoyed. Here are those last three colours I've worked on this month.

I'm sure I'll get more time to work on the blanket once Christmas is sorted and I've got a bit more time to relax, whenever that may be.

I'm joining in with Jennifer's Winter Project Link Party over on her Thistlebear blog. Do pop over and take a look what it's all about, and how about joining in with the fun? I'm sure many of you have projects on the go for winter.

  1. It is always good to have a slow burner project in a basket! I am working on a stripy blanket, too and I enjoy going back to it now and then without having to think too much about how to work it etc. x

    1. It is good to have a long term project. As well as this blanket, I've got a granny stripe on the go, though I haven't worked on that for quite a while now.

    1. It's both the colours and different stitches which appealed to me when I saw this blanket. I'm really enjoying hooking it up, and I'm learning things along the way which is good too.

    1. It's definitely not being rushed. I'm enjoying working on it and I'll hopefully have more time to do so over Christmas.

  4. That is so pretty! I agree, if you have to finish something it takes away the joy of the making

    1. I really enjoy hooking blankets up at my own pace. I started this blanket as part of a CAL but the CAL finished quite a while ago. I'm not in any rush to finish though.

  5. Slow and steady sounds, and looks, good to me. It's my pace with most things nowadays. Flighty xx

    1. They do say less haste more speed and it does tend to be true. Better not to rush things.

  6. You have made more progress than me, I think I've made a huge mistake with mine - I have a lot more stitches than I should do. I should make my progress even slower! x

    1. The combination of different stitch patterns can make it hard to ensure you have the right amount of stitches. It's all a learning curve for me as I haven't attempted anything like this before. I'm really enjoying it.

  7. Jo, you are not alone when it comes to pacing yourself. We all seem to lead busy lives these days and it's nice to pick up something crafty to do when "you" feel like it. Mine is slow going too and not sure I want to show it after seeing your lovely work and colours. Mine is "VERY" bright, but I am enjoying, though a few nights have been way to hot to work with it over my lap.(lol) Take care.

  10. It's just stunning, your colour choices are wonderful. It's great to have projects to last, there is something comforting about making them, therapeutic. although these days I tend to stick with quick projects

    1. I agree about the colour choices being stunning, however, I can't take credit for that. I'm following along with the CAL and these colours are the ones which were suggested. They work wonderfully together. I'm a big fan of quick projects too, though I do like to have a longer project on the go at the same time.

    1. It is. Life seems to be one huge rush these days so it's good that crafting doesn't have to be and that we can take our time and enjoy the whole process.

  12. I think at this time of year certain things do tend to go on the 'back burner' as we concentrate on getting house and home ready for Christmas and all that entails ...

I do like your colour choices, they go so nicely together...

    Happy Wednesday Wishes

    1. I'm a bit more organised with Christmas now, I'm very late this year with things but I'm back on track. I wish I could take credit for the colour choices but they're the ones which were suggested for this CAL.

  16. I think that blankets are a very big project and definitely one to take your time over! I don't think that I could have made the blanket over the CAL time even if worked on it all day every day! Yours is looking really fabulous and as though it is reaching the snuggle under while working on stage which is always good isn't it. xx

    1. I'm never good at keeping up with timescales, it just takes all the pleasure out of crafting for me but there's no rush, I can work it up in my own time. I love it when blankets get to this stage, especially at this time of year when they keep you warm whilst working on them.

  18. Hi Jo, thank you for joining in with my link party! Your blanket is so pretty. I'm with you, there just isn't a lot of time for crochet in my days right now, but I'm sure it will all get better in January. I look forward to sinking back into my crafty work. I hope you're having a good week.

    1. It's such a busy time of year but I'm sure we'll all have a bit more time for our hobbies and for crafting once Christmas is over. Winter, when the darker nights are here and we cosy up on an evening, is perfect for giving us a little extra time to indulge.

  19. A cuddly project is perfect for the winter. When I see blankets like this I really want to learn to crochet. One day.......your blanket is lovely, I love the colours and the different stitches you have used.

    1. I'm sure you'll master crochet in no time, you're so clever with lots of things. I only learnt to crochet a few years ago and this CAL has taught me lots of new things, it's taken me out of my comfort zone but I think that's good in many respects.

  21. I think lots of projects have been put on hold this month while everyone's busy with Christmas. There's still January and February, the rest of winter, for us to work on our blankets. Slow and steady is better anyway. I find I make more mistakes when I've set myself a deadline and rush to finish a project. X

    1. It's true, more mistakes are made through rushing than anything else. I'm hoping to get plenty of time over Christmas to work on my blanket and as you say, there's all winter left yet so I'm in no hurry.

    1. I definitely think it's best to work on things as the urge takes us, no point plodding along with something if we're not enjoying it. My enthusiasm always returns if I put it to one side for a while.
