In The Midst Of The Madness

A bit of beauty in the midst of this madness.

For the past few years I've put an amaryllis on my Christmas list. Many shops stock them already planted up and packaged in a gift box. They're an inexpensive gift but I get so much pleasure out of watching them grow.

We've got to look for the beauty amidst the situation we all find ourselves in at the moment.

    1. My dad's much better, thank you for asking. He's glad to be out of hospital and in his own home now.

  2. That’s lovely Jo. We all need more beauty right now, and a reminder that not everything is madness.

How are you/Mick coping with not only your own needs but getting everything for Dad? I know you said Eleanor was working flat out, is she OK?

    1. We're all coping fine. It would be better if my dad could avoid seeing anyone but we have to go to help him out with things. it's not ideal but we've got to do what we've got to do. Eleanor's fine but not impressed that she hasn't seen her boyfriend for a couple of weeks now. He also works in a hospital laboratory, a different one to Eleanor, and came into contact with a staff member who was showing symptoms, so they're being cautious.

    2. Cheers Jo, I think we all have to err on the side of caution and glad to hear you are managing.

Yesterday, Management’s sister moved 86 y/old mother in with her for the duration. Definitely the right thing to do because all the coffee mornings, Scrabble sessions, etc., at MIL’s sheltered housing have been cancelled and she would have been extremely lonely.

  3. I love amarylis. When my children were younger I would have several white ones thought the house as well as paperwhites.

  5. I'm weird because I really don't like them, we always gave Col's Mum and Dad one for Christmas because they loved them

  6. Definitely. I treated myself to 3 bunches of daffs for £2 in the florist on Friday when I went out to get a prescription for DB.

  7. Very vibrant.
I had 2 this year and fave one to my daughter and grandaughter and we had a little competition to see which would flower first. They both want one eacb next year for Christmas so 3 of us can play again. Small pleasures.

  9. What a gorgeous red. It's an indoor plant that gives a lot of pleasure for a long time as it grows and produces those lovely flowers. Life is not easy for your family members at the moment as we know only too well as we get news of how ours are coping. Take care Jo. All the best.

  11. Yes I agree!! we must find beauty! Today: donating some hats to the local bird sanctuary , by leaving them in a bag on their front door, made me feel better.

  14. I do agree lots of the fun is taken away by buying one already growing.

  15. That red is really beautiful! Mine was a fail this time, my own fault, i left it in the pantry and forgot about planting it until too late :-(

  16. Look for the beauty, find the funny, and appreciate the little things - I keep reminding myself that people have survived far worse conditions than we're experiencing at the moment, and it will end - sooner or later.
I was given an amaryllis for Christmas this year, it had five huge flowers on it but now I'm waiting for it to die back so I can store it in the hope that I can revive it next year - when hopefully things are more or less back to normal.
    Take care
    xx
