Knitting And Crochet Christmas Presents

I know it's a while after the festive season now, but I really wanted to show you the lovely knitting and crochet presents which I got for Christmas.

I got some gorgeous Laughing Yaffle yarn in Fantasia and Orchard shades. I'm looking forward to pampering my feet in socks made from these.

I've been wanting some sock blockers so that the socks I knit are well shaped. It'll be interesting to see what a difference these make.

I've never used any needles other than metal ones so it will be interesting to try out these bamboo ones. I'm a little nervous of using them actually in case I snap one.

This Symfonie wood crochet hook set is wonderful. There's five different sized hooks and they're so smooth. I can't wait to try them out.

I've been wanting this book, 200 Croochet Blocks For Blankets, Throws And Afghans by Jan Eaton. It was recommended to me quite a while ago and has been on my wishlist ever since. I hope I can manage to master some.

The crochet hook set was bought for me by my mum and dad, all the other presents were bought by Mick. I have such a thoughtful family.

  1. Gorgeous gifts. I have been using bamboo knitting needles since the 1980s. I don't have many pairs as I have such a lot of metal and plastic needles which I have inherited( and I'm a sucker for vintage knitting needles so have bought them at carboot sales too), but if a pattern calls for needles in a size that I have in bamboo, they are first choice. They are very light, and durable. I haven't broken any yet, so some must be over 25 years old.

  3. I can vouch for the book. I have it too and think it's great. As for bamboo needles, I switched a little while ago. I had the same worry as you but now I wouldn't use anything else. Loving the wool. I can't wait to see your finished socks. Cx

  4. I am drooling over your presents! ;-) and those Symfonie crochet hooks look delightful. I must learn to crochet this year and I should pluck up the courage to make me first pair of socks. You have inspired me.

I also wanted to wish you, one week into the new year, a beautfiul, peaceful and creative 2012. I'm looking forward to seeing what it brings you.

  5. Love the colours in the wool and the symfonie crochet hooks look so pretty. It make me want to learn to crochet. Did knit years ago and used bamboo needles with no problems.

  7. Super and useful presents. Just what I like!

I see your reading the best copy of Larkrise to Candleford.

It's illustrations are beautiful aren't they?

Mr Sft and I loved reading it to each other.

  10. The granny square is all I've mastered - I've previously knitted and learned to crochet only a couple of years ago. I've quite fancied that book myself! Maybe I should add it to my birthday wishlist. Beautiful wool, by the way.

  11. Thank you for all your comments.

Scarlet - I haven't tried the bamboo needles out yet, they must be stronger than they look if you haven't snapped any of your's in twenty five years.

Catherine - I've seen the book mentioned on a few blogs and liked the look of it. I hope I can manage to produce something other than a granny square with it's help.

Stephanie - Thank you. The crochet hooks feel really lovely, so different to metal ones, I'm looking forward to trying them out.

Amanda - Thank you. I've managed a granny square so far but nothing else. I'm hoping that I'll progress with my crochet a little this year.

Sft - The illustrations in Lark Rise To Candleford are wonderful. It's a long time since I read a picture book.

Kat - Thank you. I find knitting the easiest of all, though crocheting my granny squares is very relaxing.
