The Strictly Sockalong, which is hosted by Ali from Little Drops of Wonderful podcast, starts today along with the first episode of this season's Strictly Come Dancing.
The last pair of socks I knit was the Aava Socks which I knit as part of last year's sockalong so I'm itching to get some socks on the needles again. I've gone shopping in my stash and come up with this Mad Scientist yarn in the Badgers Mess colourway which I think is perfect for all the glitz and glamour of Strictly. The photo doesn't actually show how bright and sparkly the yarn is, it's a 75% superwash merino 20% nylon and 5% lurex mix so it has silver flecks running through it.
I've always used a pattern for the socks I've knit in previous Strictly sockalongs but I think this yarn speaks for itself and so I shall knit them plain this year. I can't wait to see how the yarn knits up. I've decided to use the magic loop method this time instead of double pointed needles, I'm getting to enjoy this way of knitting socks more and more. I still knit one sock at once even though there's a way of doing two at once with a long circular needle.
I'm really looking forward to Strictly tonight. Will you be watching?
It's all downhill to Christmas with Strictly starting already! Your wool looks the perfect yarn for the job. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYes, we are both huge fans, so TV will be on, our routine is always homemade pizza and a glass of wine. I'm still knitting clothes for Molly and George, so no casting on socks yet. Can't wait to see your socks finished, they will look fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely be watching. Your socks will be very swish when they're done! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I've never watched Strictly and amazed how you can knit and watch the programme at the same time, I know I couldn't do it. Looks lovely yarn and I can't wait to see how it knits up.
ReplyDeleteEvery year I see so many socks being knitted in fabulous colours and wools and every year I am madly jealous. I can't knit to save my life and my gran tried to teach me many times. I also have a wool allergy and can't wear it so all of these beautiful wool socks are not for me. How wonderful though to have socks that are completely individual to you in style and colour. x
ReplyDeleteLovely yarn, I think knitting a plain sock will let the yarn shine. As you know, I don't watch strictly but I have got a pair of socks that are close to being finished so I may try and get them done while it's still on TV.
ReplyDeletethat's lovely yarn, look forward to seeing it knit up. I am tempted to watch strictly tonight, not something I normally do.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your knitting! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished socks :)
ReplyDeleteI am not aware of this come dancing! I have to check out you tube.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoy strictly but never watch the first episode where everyone meets who they are dancing with. Will start my socks when the show starts proper. Your yarn is perfect for the show! I too like to knit by magic loop, just one sock at a time and toe up!
