I've mentioned lots of times in the past that I've kept a journal for many years now. Back in 2019 I bought a Hobonichi Techo in the A6 size. I really enjoyed using this little journal, it was compact and as it was dated, it encouraged me to write something each day. In 2020 I decided to continue journaling in this way and used a Hobonichi Techo again but this year I've gone back to my old A4 journal which I've been using since 2006.
I miss writing something in my journal every day. I know I could do so if I so wished, but I don't think an undated journal encourages this. I've also been watching lots of journaling videos on You Tube and I follow journaling accounts on Instagram, they've inspired me to go back to using a Hobonichi. This time I've decided to go for the Hobonichi Cousin in the A5 size to give me a little extra room as I'd like to have a go at more creative journaling where you not only write but decorate the pages too.
My order from The Journal Shop was delivered last weekend, not only have I bought the Hobonichi Cousin but I've also bought a lovely cover to keep it in, along with a pencil board which you place underneath the page you're writing on to prevent marking the sheet of paper underneath. Hobonichi pages are printed on Tomoe River paper which is very thin. It keeps the book compact allowing one whole year to fit in one journal and it's bleed resistant, ink doesn't show through onto the next page, but as it is so thin, indentations from writing tend to appear, the pencil board should prevent this.
I'm very happy with my purchase and look forward to getting started with it in the new year. Do you keep a journal? Have you started making any plans yet for 2022?
Keeping a journal is not something I have ever done. To be truthful I am not very good at updating the dog journal I started earlier this year when we got the puppy. I start off with good intentions and hats off to you for doing it every day. Yours looks a lovely journal and being Japanese I expect it is excellent quality. My daughter-in-law is Japanese and an artist and I expect she would love that journal. I have no plans for 2022, I take each day as it comes now, just a short holiday maybe.
ReplyDeleteI've kept a journal for the past 3 years, I generally use a Leuchtturm1917 A5 and get a different colour each year. I may however just have to go and check these journal's out. How are you getting on with your mini photo printer?
ReplyDeleteI really like the photo printer, it's handy and convenient. I'd say it's not something to consider if you want really sharp photos, there's ten photos for each pack you insert into the printer and they seem to deteriorate the closer to the end of the ten that you get. Perhaps I just need to adjust the settings and have a bit of a play about with it, it's still quite new to be fair, but I'm enjoying using it.
DeleteI've never heard of this journal but it looks nice.
ReplyDeleteI have tried to keep them in the past but never succeeded to complete a year. lol

I've been looking at Hobonichis this year as well. I might get a Weeks I think. They look like lovely diaries. I do love a good notebook/diary/planner. Sarra Cannon at Heartbreathings has me hooked! CJ xx
ReplyDeleteI've journaled off and on throughout my life and now infrequently blog (because you know... life). I think a journal would help me with my blogging as I could write down a few sentences each day and combine it into a blog post. Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll have a lot of fun and interesting things to write about.

That's a smart looking journal. I've only ever used dairies, desk and pocket, intermittently. xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely bit of kit, it should turn your daily entries into an art form. I love the idea of adding drawings too. i haven't kept a diary since I was a child, but the Mr does an on-line one. Jean.x
ReplyDeleteI have a calendar journa1. I'm getting used to it. It is a PANDA?
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of keeping a journal, I kept one at the start of the pandemic but didn't keep it up. The journals you bought look great.
ReplyDeletePleased you are happy with your purchase, enjoy using it ...
ReplyDeleteI did buy my 2022 diary the other day - nothing in it yet!
I will transfer birthday and other important dates into it soon though.
All the best Jan
I love the idea of journaling and have a few journals but my initial enthusiasm usually fades after a few weeks. I see many people using the Hobonichi journals, though I've never used one myself. I do enjoy cracking open a new "insert any manner of notebook, journal, etc. here" :)
ReplyDeleteThat does look the business! Very smart indeed. I see my blog as a journal as sorts, I often kept one as a child but never managed more than a month or so in any one year. It still feels like anything and everything could happen in 2020, we have booked the Lakes for next September though.xxx
ReplyDeleteI also ordered my Hobonichi Techo from The Journal Shop, as well as a cover. I might look at getting another cover-on-cover too as I've spotted one I quite like. I got a pencil board this time too.
