I've had the lurgy, in fact, I've still got the lurgy. It's not often I'm ill, which is just as well as I make a bad patient when I am, but this time, I've had it well and good.
I started at the beginning of last week with a really sore chest and it developed into a dry cough, I coughed so much that I was physically sick. It's not a cold, I haven't had a runny nose, but my whole body has ached and I've had a high temperature.
It wouldn't be so bad if my dad wasn't in hospital. We took him to A&E on the Sunday night before I was ill as he had chest pains and he was having trouble breathing, his ankles were also very swollen. They hooked him up to a heart monitor, took blood to test and did a chest x-ray and they discovered that his kidneys weren't working as they should. My dad's got prostate cancer and he knew that he'd lost the function of one kidney completely and was down to 27% function in the other kidney. They wanted to keep him in hospital but he refused point blank so they allowed him home, but on the Monday he received a phone call from the urology specialist asking him to go in and see him on Tuesday. It was the first day I was feeling off it so Mick took him to the appointment. He was told that the function of his one remaining working kidney is now down to 16% and that they needed to drain it. He wasn't impressed that he had to stay in hospital but Mick eventually talked him round and he's been in there ever since.
I didn't think it was a good idea being in close proximity to my dad, or anyone else in hospital, when I'm obviously carrying germs around so Mick's been doing all the toing and froing whilst my dad's been in hospital, not that I felt able to get there anyway. I don't know what I'd do without him.
Mick also had a big interview last week and has just earned himself a big promotion. He's worked for his company since leaving school thirty six years ago and has worked his way up through the ranks so his promotion is very well deserved. He's now responsible for all his company's UK factories. We haven't celebrated yet but I'm sure we'll do so as soon as I feel up to it.
I've still got a really bad cough but I'm feeling a lot better in myself than I have done over the last ten days so I'm hoping that it doesn't last much longer. I'm also hoping that my dad gets sorted out soon and is allowed home. It never rains but it pours!
the bugs this year are horrible, Hubby has a simular bug and was ill for 3 weeks. I am trying to keep bug free, we will have a new baby in 3 weeks so I don't want to have to stay away .
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be so much going around this year, perhaps that's why I've succumbed this time round. It's the shaking it off which is the problem, as your hubby knows, three weeks is a long time to have it hanging around. You must definitely keep bug free, just think of all those baby cuddles you'll miss out on otherwise.
DeleteI hope you feel better soon Jo, all this damp rainy weather's not helping, we need some frost to kill off the germs! Touch wood I don't get coughs and colds very often, good job as I can't take over the counter cures, I have to rely on ginger tea, hot lemon and extra doses of vitamin C. I hope you dad is able to come home soon, it's an extra worry. Congrats to Mick on his promotion.
ReplyDeleteI don't often get coughs and colds either but I seem to get them tenfold when I do. Yes, it's a worry my dad being in hospital when I can't get there to see him myself, he's been a bit up and down over the last week or so but I'm hoping he'll soon be on the mend. Thank you, I'll pass on your congratulations to Mick.
DeleteOoh, sorry you're not well. I hope your dad's condition improves as well. Not an easy time for you. The rain is definitely metaphorical as well as literal in your neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteYes, the title of my post can be taken in two different ways at the moment, we've more rain forecast today. We've missed the flooding here but Mick was in South Yorkshire last week and passed some terrible scenes, my heart goes out to all those who have been affected.
DeleteChesty coughs do seem to hang around for ages don't they? Hope it goes soon and you're feeling better. It's always a worry when elderly parents are in hospital - I always worry that my Mum will catch something even worse in hospital! Congratulations to your husband. We're sick of the rain down here too, it feels neverending. We rarely seem to get colds or coughs anymore (probably will now I've said it!).
ReplyDeleteCoughs can be such niggly things as they take so long to go. I've always found that my parents are worse when they're in hospital, I think most people feel better when they're in their own house. We've had more bad weather today, winter is definitely here.
DeleteYou are in the stage when you have grown children to worry about and also parents, its very challenging to say the least. I remember when I was there trying to do it all. Just remember that 'Everything Passes' and things will be okay again. Hope you continue to feel better, Hugs.

It is challenging as our parents age, we seem to have worries from all angles. I'm just hoping that we can get my dad home again soon.
DeleteCongratulations to your husband on his promotion! Sorry to hear you're unwell, I hope you feel better soon. Also, hope your dad is well enough to come home soon.
ReplyDeleteKavitha
Thank you, I'm really proud of Mick, he does work hard and deserves his promotion. He's going to the hospital to see my dad again tonight, I'm hoping we get some good news soon and that he's allowed home.
DeleteGlad to hear you are feeling a little better, horrible when you feel so rough and it just lingers on. I double up on the zinc supplement when something is pending, which does seem to help. So sorry to hear your Dad´s unwell too, hope things improve very soon, but a lovely comfort for you that Mick was able to give his support. Congrats to Mick, unusual to hear someone has been with the same company for so long so it´s great to hear his hard work has gained him such a huge promotion. xcx
ReplyDeleteI feel as though this illness has been ongoing for such a long time, it wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't worrying so much about my dad. There aren't many people who stay with one employer for such a long time these days, it's good that his loyalty and hard work has been rewarded.
DeleteSorry to see that you're not feeling so good and hope you get better soon. Also sorry to read about your dad. Well done to Mick on his well deserved promotion, enjoy celebrating it in due course. Take care. xx
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I must be on the mend now, I'm still coughing but at least I don't feel quite so bad. I'm looking forward to getting to see my dad as soon as I feel able. Thank you, I'm sure we'll enjoy celebrating Mick's promotion soon too.
DeleteSo sorry to hear that your Dad is in hospital and you've been unwell. It's stressful when one thing after another happens and again Mick is a great support. Congratulations on his well deserved promotion. I hope your Dad's medical procedure goes well and his health improves.
ReplyDeleteEverything seems to happen at once but Mick's been brilliant with everything. Thank you, we're so pleased that Mick got his promotion. My dad's had his procedure but, like most things, it wasn't straight forward. We're hoping that he'll be allowed home soon.
DeleteSounds like the flu...... -sigh-
ReplyDeleteBest of luck, with feeling all better. No, don't go to you father or hospital, being sick.
Take it easy and get your own health back.
Congratulations to your husband!!!!

I think it's probably been a flu bug or some type of chest infection. I'm sure it will pass in time but I definitely shan't go passing it on to my dad or other patients in hospital. Thank you, I'm very proud of Mick getting his promotion.
DeleteI am so sorry to hear that you have been ill for so long, that is tough especially with you dad bring in hospital that must be such a worry for you. How wonderful that Mick has been able to support your dad on your behalf. I do hope you have turned a corner now and continue to feel better.
ReplyDeleteMany congratulations to Mick and I hope you can celebrate his promotion soon.
Things always seem to happen all at once, it's a worrying time, especially as I haven't been able to see my dad myself, but Mick has been a wonderful support. Thank you, I shall pass on your congratulations on to him, I'm looking forward to the celebrations.
DeleteI m so sorry you have all this going on, but thrilled for your husbands promotion! Get well and know that I'm praying for your dad. My father was in congestive heart failure last week with poorly working kidneys. It seems they are so closely intertwined. Hope you can see him soon
ReplyDeleteIt's so very worrying as our parents age and become unwell, there have been lots of hospital stays over the last few years for both my mum and dad but it's extra worrying when I can't get there myself. I hope your dad is soon on the mend.
DeleteSo sorry you're sick, feel better soon! Will put your dad on my prayer list. 💖
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm definitely on the mend now, though still not well enough to go into a hospital. I'm hoping that I can get there soon.
DeleteIt sounds like you've had quite a week. I hope you feel better soon and that your Dad is back home again soon which will make life easier all round. Well done Mick, great to have some good news.
ReplyDeleteMy dad's really fed up of being in hospital now, he's wanting to get home, which in itself will cause more problems as he'll need extra care once he does come home. Thank you, although we haven't been able to celebrate Mick's promotion yet it was nice to have some good news.
DeleteCongratulations to Mick! I'm very sorry to hear that you've been so ill and such a worry for you with your dad being in hospital. Hope you're on the mend now and that your dad is able to come home soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I shall pass your congratulations on to him. I do hope my dad can come home soon, he's really unhappy in hospital and he's been there some time now. I think people always feel better in their own homes.
Deleteget well soon and sorry to hear your dad has been poorly. Hopefully you are both on the mend quick smart!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm still struggling on with a bad cough and my dad's still in hospital but hopefully we'll both soon be on the mend.
DeleteCongratulations to Mick. That's wonderful news.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to read about your lurgies. It can't be easy for you when your dad is unwell too. I hope he's well enough to return home soon. X
Thank you, we're really pleased that his hard work over the years has paid off. My dad's still in hospital at the moment but we're hoping he'll be able to come home soon. I still haven't been well enough to see him, which is hard when he's unwell, but I'm starting to feel a bit better so I'm sure I'll get to see him soon.
DeleteI hope you are feeling much improved Jo.
ReplyDeleteWell done to Mick on the promotion, that's a lot of years at the same company, well deserved for his commitment to the company.
Hope dad is improving.
I'm definitely starting to feel much better now, I'm hoping I can get to see my dad soon as he's still in hospital. Thank you, yes, Mick's spent all his working life at one company, not really the done thing these days.
DeleteSO sorry you are feeling so poorly and with your Dad having medical issues. But well done by your husband. I hope you soon feel well enough to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteI think I've got one in a million with Mick, I don't know what I'd do without him. I'm beginning to feel much better so I'm sure I'm on the mend now, we just need to get my dad out of hospital.
DeleteI do hope you're feeling better now, and that your Dad is soon on his way home.
ReplyDeletexx
I'm beginning to feel much better, though my dad's still in hospital at the moment, I'm hoping that he'll be able to come home soon.
DeleteOh you poor thing, it's certainly going round isn't it? Hope you are feeling better and your dad is making a recovery. It's all such a worry for you. Congratulations to Mick, hope you get to celebrate soon.xxx
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be so many bugs doing the rounds this year. It's certainly taking it's time, I'm still unwell, but my dad's out of hospital at least now. Thank you, those celebrations haven't happened yet but they will.
DeleteIsn't it always the way, everything happens at the same time!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to read that you have been unwell, there does seem to be a lot of nasty things going around at present. It must be hard for you especially with your dad being in hospital. It sounds as if Mick has been brilliant looking after you and visiting your dad. I do so hope you are now beginning to feel a little better... and hoping your Dad is doing a little better too.
Many congratulations to Mick on his well deserved promotion, I am sure you will get to celebrate the good news soon :)
Take Care
All the best Jan
It's happened exactly the same way before, me being ill when my dad was in hospital. Thankfully, we're both on the mend now, my dad is home and I feel much better. Thank you, I shall pass on your congratulations to Mick. I'm sure we'll be celebrating his promotion very soon.
DeleteThat sounds like the same bug that hit our family a couple of months ago. The cough was Horrible and it took forever for it to go away. Hope you are much better soon and wishing your dad all the best.
ReplyDeleteI've still got the cough now, it's driving me mad. I just think it's starting to get better and then it gets worse again. At least I'm feeling much better now than I was and my dad's home and in his own house again.
