A Slippery Slope

After treating myself to a box of Tunnock's Tea Cakes at Christmas, I find I'm now on a slippery slope.

This is the second lot I've bought since that box at Christmas.

I can't help it, I think I'm addicted. Does anyone else have a similar problem?

  1. Not to tea cakes but to chocolate in general.

  2. Yep I'm with you there on that one Jo. We don't have any in the kitchen cupboards because we would scoff the lot :-)

    1. My problem is that Eleanor likes them just as much as I do. I try to hide them but she manages to find them.

  3. Ha slippery slope! You've been very well behaved. I would of consumed the first box in 5 minutes & if a second was bought that would have swiftly followed. Did you know you can get larger ones!!

    1. La la la, I can't hear you. Ok, I give in, I'm off to Google where I can buy larger ones.

  4. Hello Jo

If the box of anything is open I have to eat them until they are gone.
But an unopened box can stay there for ages.

I'm so pleased all the Christmas sweets/cakes etc., have disappeared.

    1. My mum's just the same, she can't have anything open without eating it. I've still got loads of chocolates left from Christmas, my mum doesn't know how I do it.

    1. I prefer Cadbury's to Galaxy, but I do love chocolate when it's just come out of the fridge.

  7. It's Cheddars for me. Once I open a packet I can't stop. They are banned from the house. Jx

  8. Oh no, you're turning into Kate from KateCreates - she is addicted to Tunnocks too. My downfall would be a Terry's chocolate Orange (milk), oh my. I love them.

    1. I don't know Kate but it sounds like she's a kindred spirit. Terry's chocolate Orange is a favourite in our house too, we all love them.

  9. I'm generally pretty good nowadays, except when it comes to plain chocolate digestives. Flighty xx

    1. Plain chocolate's definitely the best for digestives. My mum always had them in the house when I was growing up and they're still a favourite here now.

  10. I had my annual box in my Christmas stocking and tried to pace myself eating them over the whole month of January. I always say it's a darn good thing they're so expensive over here and can only be purchased in one or two stores in my city, that I'm aware of. :)

    1. They're actually quite reasonable here but I still try to buy them as a treat rather than as the norm. It's very hard to ration them once the box is open though.

  11. I love those little tea cakes, although I always think they taste slightly stale. Weird i know. I also love the packaging so much i bought a tin tray with a giant Tunnocks on it. i've got it bad. So bad i can't buy them otherwise I would eat at least two a day.

    1. I think it's probably because the biscuit base is quite soft rather than crunchy. I've found someone else who's on the same slippery slope as me.

  14. I just don't buy them. But there's always something in the house that I can't stop myself eating.

    1. You've got stronger willpower than me. I suppose that's the only way I'm going to stop myself, stop buying them.

  15. They are meant to be eaten all at once, I am sure it says so on the box. Somewhere. x

  16. I took to having them as a treat last year after learning that the Danish eat something virtually the same and call them floderballer. Anything with that silly a name needs to be eaten regularly. It is their birthday treat of choice, apparently.

    1. What a brilliant name for them. These were supposed to be my Christmas treat but Christmas has long gone and here I am still buying them.

  17. Oh dear, dear. Yes it's hard to stop at one, once the box has been opened. Maybe I shouldn't tell you but I've seen the outrageously gigantic ones in Costa Coffee...

  18. Chocolate = eat.

And how do you eat your teacake?
    1. All in the mouth at once?
    2. Pick off the chocolate, lick out the white goo then eat the biscuit?
    3. Take a few bites/

    Mine's number 2.

  23. Oh yes. We've got two left in the second packet we've bought since Xmas. The only trouble with the first lot was that they were stale, so we make sure they have a better use by date on them now. Very expensive over here, but "YUMMY". Take care.

    1. Worth every penny though. I think that's the problem, they're quite reasonable here so it's no big deal to just pop them in the trolley, perhaps if they were a little more expensive I'd think twice.

  24. I've never seen a "tea cake" in Kentucky, but anything with chocolate has to be good! By the way, I just ordered the book you mentioned in your last post..."The Yorkshire Shepherdess". It won't arrive till mid March, but am looking forward to reading it! Love chocolate and a good book :)

    1. You don't know what you're missing, a biscuit base topped with marshmallow and covered in chocolate, but you're right, anything with chocolate is good. I really enjoyed The Yorkshire Shepherdess, I hope you do too. I don't know if you can get The Dales with Adrian Edmondson over there, but watch out for it as Amanda Owen is featured as well as other interesting characters, all set in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

    2. The Dales have been an infatuation with me since watching "Creature Great and Small!" many years ago. I think YouTube may have a few videos of The Dales with Adrian Edmondson...Thanks! Can't wait to watch them.

    3. I can totally understand your infatuation with the Dales, it's my favourite place. We're lucky that we live close enough for day trips, I was taken there by my parents from being very young and it's been a favourite place to visit with my own children. There's a World of James Herriot museum in Thirsk, I keep meaning to go but I haven't made it yet.

  25. I can remember eating these ...... part of my childhood.

I can honestly say I haven't had one in years. When I eat chocolate now it tends to be the 70% and above dark chocolate..... and I would find these so sweet.

But thanks for bringing back some great memories.

    All the best Jan

    1. Chocolate is chocolate to me, over 70% and under 70%, dark or milk, I'm not fussy. I think it's the marshmallow in these which make them so sweet, but I love it.

Moderation is the key though. How's your week so far, Jo?

    1. It definitely is. I need to stop buying them. My week has been good, thank you, it makes all the difference to see some blue sky for a change.
