No Crafting Here

You won't have seen much in the way of crafting here on the blog this year, that's because there hasn't been very much crafting happening. I lost my crafting mojo somewhat at the start of the year, working solely on granny square blankets to use up some leftover yarn, and to give me something to do with my hands on an evening whilst watching TV, but since we moved house at the end of April, I haven't picked up any sort of crafting at all.

I wrote a post about A Trio Of Blankets which I crocheted and since I wrote that post I added a further blanket to the pile with the intention of donating them to the Dogs Trust. I still mean to do that, in fact, I've got some other bits and bobs to take with them, I must add that to the never ending list of jobs that I've got to do.

It's been a real eye-opener moving house. We were in our last house for over twenty eight years so I'd forgotten just how stressful and time consuming it can be, I suppose it was inevitable that crafting would take a back seat over this period. There have been a few small jobs that we've wanted to do in the new house, and of course, we've been entertaining people who have dropped by to wish us well, all this eats into the time that we usually do our own thing. I'm finding that the time we start winding down at the end of the day is much later than it was before we moved too, so this will also have an impact on the time I've got to devote to leisure activities. All in all though, I just haven't had the inclination to do any crafting.

I happened to discover my scrappy blanket yesterday though. This is the only thing I left out of packing boxes to work on when we moved. I took it out of the basket where it lives and I felt the stirrings of something, perhaps my mojo returning, which is good because we're having a new carpet fitted in what will be my craft room on Wednesday, and just an hour ago we had an order delivered from Ikea with some furniture for that room, as well as other things. I sincerely hope that my mojo returns after kitting out a new craft room.

All the projects I've got on the go and my crafting materials will be coming out of boxes once I've got the craft room set up, perhaps that will kick start me into some crafting action if the sight of my scrappy blanket doesn't.

  1. Moving house is a major event with impact on most life habits.
Sometimes, it so happens that we give up certain hobbies to make room for other neccessary things.
For example, I rarely watch TV these days as I try to learn on Youtube how to help myself in fixing things around the house, or with computer problems.

  2. Crafty mojo definitely ebbs and flows I think. I am always drawn to making yarny things when autumn rolls around. I love the scrappy blanket and I also really love the idea of donating blankets to the Dogs Trust, brilliant, I'm sure they will be very much appreciated. Perhaps a dog will be able to take his very own handmade blanket to his forever home with him so that he feels secure. Wonderful. CJ xx

  4. I remember it took me 5 whole days to pack up my sewing room when we moved here. It didn't take me nearly so long to unpack it into my new sewing room as it was more exciting somehow. I'm sure your mojo will reappear as soon as you see all your crafting stuff. Enjoy!

  6. I wouldn't worry about it Jo, you have had so much going on it's no wonder your crafting mojo went out of the window but I can guarantee it will return stronger than ever. How lovely to have a craft room waiting for you when it does. 🙂X

  10. There's no rush when it comes to crafting, you've had far too much to do. Glad it's all going well at the new house, hopefully Archie's enjoyed the move too!

  11. A house move is massive so it's no wonder your crafting has taken a back seat. Once your new craft room is ready there'll be no stopping you :)

  12. I'm sure your mojo will return once you get your craft room fully set up. Donating blankets for the Dogs Trust is a great idea and I'd love to think that each dog would take it's own handmade one when it goes to its forever home :)

  13. How lovely to have your own craft room, I´m sure you will enjoy getting it all together, especially finding items you may have forgotten about. The whole business of moving is so fraught, first the packing then unpacking and finding new homes for everything, I´m sure you will find your mojo once everything calms down a little. So glad that Archie was passed as fit xcx

  15. We've been in our new home close on a year now, there's still some things not properly unpacked and some stored deliberately for now as we just don't have room. I didn't really want to put anything in the loft but we had to. One day, I hope to get it all down again, just to make life easier. I know that one day we just won't want to be climbing up loft ladders. When my son moves out (no plans yet), we'll have a bit more room x
