The Other Half Of Augusta Hope

I'd come to the end of my pile of books waiting to be read, and all those downloaded on my Kindle too. Annoyingly, there's a couple of books I'd requested from the library which I'd just got to the front of the queue for when the lockdown came into force so I wasn't able to collect them in time, but they'll be waiting for me when the libraries open their doors once again. I was looking for something to download onto my Kindle when I came across The Other Half of Augusta Hope.

This is Joanna Glen's debut novel and what a wonderful book it is.

"Augusta Hope has never felt like she fits in.

At six, she's memorising the dictionary. At seven, she's correcting her teachers. At eight, she spins the globe and picks her favourite country on the sound of its name: Burundi.

And now that she's an adult, Augusta has no interest in the goings-on of the small town where she lives with her parents and her beloved twin sister, Julia.

When an unspeakable tragedy upends everything in Augusta's life, she's propelled headfirst into the unknown. She's determined to find where she belongs - but what if her true home, and heart, are half a world away?"

I stumbled upon a wonderful book, such a moving, touching story, and written beautifully. I read this in two sittings and I can't wait to see what else Joanne Glen comes up with. Thoroughly recommended.

  3. As you are a library member have you downloaded the book box app. Once downloaded you register your library card and download ebooks or audiobooks for FREE. Your books may be available on there. I'd be lost without it. I've downloaded books in the middle of the night when I can
    t sleep.

    1. I must admit that I prefer to use my Kindle as it's so light. I've never used audiobooks, I do prefer to read myself rather than listen.

  5. Sounds good! Our libraries allow us to download books onto the Kindle for a few weeks. Although I must admit I don't use the service myself as I have enough books on my Kindle to keep me going for a considerable time! :D

    1. I think it has to be a Kindle Fire, mine is the Paperwhite, I love it as it's so light to hold. I don't think I can download the app onto there though as it's just an ereader and not a tablet.

  6. It sounds wonderful. I have a little one who just doesn't quite fit in, hopefully he feels like he is amazing because we sure think he is!

  8. You find such interesting books to read & that sounds a beauty, but at times like this I can't concentrate on reading & always need to be "doing". Weird, I know. Even magazine articles are hard work, though last night I did find I slowed down with my sewing, whilst watching a brand new show, to us here in Oz, called Back to the Land. It was great & Kate Humble was one of the comperes, so a big tick there too. Take care, stay safe & huggles.

  11. Sounds good. I've ordered paperback books to be delivered with my online grocery shop and also from eBay. I had promised myself no more but sadly times have changed.

  12. When you get engrossed in a novel by a debut writer that you find you like it makes you want more from her/him and look forward to the next being published. I have unread books on my bookshelf, but finding the right one to invest time in seems difficult at the moment. I think this one you highlight sounds intriguing.

  16. Your library should be able to let you download onto the kindle Jo. There are various different platforms for differing libraries, like Borrowbox, Pressreader, RB Digital or Overdrive, these are just a few I know of. If you look up your library online there should be links to it. Our libraries also offer a newsletter each month delivered to your inbox telling all about new things. #
I've added this book to my list and will also tell the ladies in the book group, they are always looking for a good read.
    Thanks x

  17. Sounds interesting. I haven't read anything on my Kindle for ages, I still have some waiting to be read on there but i'm much preferring to hold a real book at the moment.
You could try your library like Julie suggests, I know you can have e books from our local library but they don't support Kindle because it's owned by Amazon, but it's worth a try.

  18. This is definitely going on my books-to-find list after this glowing recommendation!
I was going to say 'well done' on getting everything read, it's a dream I have to finish all the books in my pile, but I can see that at this point in time it's rather inconvenient!
