Enjoying The Rhododendrons

The sunshine returned on Tuesday after a cooler period, so we decided to head off to Temple Newsam to see the rhododendrons. It's the perfect time of year to visit as the gardens, filled with so much colour, are a delight to see. Previous posts I've written about the rhododendrons at Temple Newsam are Temple Newsam Rhododendron Walk and Temple Newsam Rhododendrons. I have to say that we won't be heading back to Temple Newsam in a hurry though, it was packed, and there wasn't a lot of social distancing happening. Different families were out together and many people didn't even try to step to the side as people passed by them. It's so different to the experience we've had at Lotherton since the lockdown has begun to ease, it's so much quieter there and every single person we've come into contact with has moved out of the way, as we've done too, as we've passed by.

This is the start of the Rhododendron Walk. The path snakes its way through the parkland with these beautiful shrubs grown as a hedge all the way along.

I shall let the flowers and colour do the talking for me today.

I'm pleased I got to see the rhododendrons at Temple Newsam this year, it's just a shame that people aren't sticking to the social distancing rules.

  1. We have no plans to go or do anything this coming weekend, we do have some stunning local walks, great when the tide is in. I miss not visiting a garden centre, but have no plans to go.

  2. The rhodies are beautiful, Jo. I just don't understand people. They're spoiling it for everyone by being so, let's be honest, stupid! Grrrr! Stay safe!

  3. Good to have the warning about how close people are walking near each other. I will hope to see the rhododendrons next year!

  4. A shame about people not distancing, but your photos of the rhododendrons are beautiful anyway. Temple Newsam always brings back happy memories of meeting you & maybe one day again, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll wait & see if you post Lotherton Hall gardens in all their Spring glory at some point. Take care, stay safe & huggles.

  5. Since some restrictions have been lifted a lot of people are getting carried away with it. We have noticed this too. John goes into town to Homebargains once a month and he rode passed the prom and it was packed ( Homebargains wasn't, thankfully ) Even the trampolines, kids play area, cafe's and ice cream kiosks were open!!! I don't know if they're allowed to be open, but it's a risk if they're not. You take care of yourselves. Best, Jane x

  6. They are beautiful, your photos are wonderful. I shan't be going anywhere anytime soon as people can't be trusted to stick to the social distancing rules. They need reminding they are risking catching or passing on a deadly virus.

  7. Wow what an array of colours, they really are a beautiful plant. I inherited a purple one in my last house but they flower for such a short while. 😥

  8. When I saw that you were writing about Temple Newsam I thought that was an idea of somewhere to take Ruby other than around the streets but from what you say maybe not. Such a shame.

  11. WOW ... what delights they must be to see in person. Shame others there didn't observe the rules and regulations.

  12. The rhododendrons are beautiful, I had lots of flowers on mine this year compared to last year, although they have started to fade now. I can't understand why people are not sticking to the distancing rules while out and about, it's like they think it's all over because we are now allowed to do more. I'm still only going for my local walks and shopping when I have to, today is the first time in three weeks i've been into town and I was glad to get back home.

  13. They're very beautiful. The colours are so pretty, I like the pale pink of the penultimate photo. It's so delicate.
I haven't ventured out very far yet as we have lots of lovely walks on our doorstep.
I think people are getting complacent, and I think that's what the whole 'Stay Alert' messaging is about. The curve has flattened but the virus is still out there but people, or some at least, seem to think we're out of danger and life can go back to normal. I'd love to go to the beach but I'm planning on resisting for as long as possible.
    Take care
    xx

  14. Such pretty colours. I suppose everyone has the same idea about getting to see their favourite places and with the NT houses and gardens still closed there's not so many places to visit but they should still be doing their utmost to stick to the rules to keep us all safe.

  15. How beautiful I would love to visit there one day and it's not too far away so maybe next year, hopefully things will be more normal then. I know what you mean about the lack of social distancing it's very evident in my area, especially inside of supermarkets, some people try to make a effort while others couldn't give a toss, and the staff are filling shelves and you have to almost squeeze past them too. There will be a another huge rise in cases and these past months will have been for nothing. :( xx

  18. Lovely to see these rhododendrons, they are so colourful your photographs show them so well.

Eddie and I are only going out locally and so far people are 'keeping their distance'. I do worry when I see pictures on TV and in the papers that clearly show there are a lot of people that seem to be ignoring it.

Hope you've had a good Friday, have a lovely weekend.

    All the best Jan

  21. Absolutely beautiful and those are massive. I don't think I've ever seen them that large in the U.S.
