Storm Ciara

As forecast, Storm Ciara blew in during the early hours of Sunday morning. We awoke to the rain lashing against the windows and gale force winds. Unfortunately, even in this sort of weather, dogs still need to be taken outdoors to do their necessaries. Mick drew the short straw, as he always does when I don't want to venture out, so he waited until there seemed to be a bit of a break in the weather and then made a dash for it. They must have been out just a matter of minutes when the sky, once again, darkened and without warning the worst weather of the day materialised. The downpour was as heavy as any I've ever seen, and to make matters worse, the rain was coming down horizontally as it was caught by the wind. Archie had his hoodie on, but Mick refuses to walk him with the hood up so his body was kept nice and dry but just look at those ears. He felt very sorry for himself for the rest of the day.

Mick fared much worse, he was soaked to the skin, literally. Every bit of clothing was drenched and was put straight into the washing machine, even his pants and socks.

The storm continued throughout Sunday and it was still raging when we woke on Monday morning, though it settled down a little as the day wore on. There was still plenty of rain about but the wind started to abate. I thought the storm was blowing itself out but that wasn't to be, it's back with a vengeance today, one pane had already been blown out of the greenhouse on Sunday but there were another four panes strewn around the garden when we got up this morning. Luckily, it's just polycarbonate and not glass so it will just clip back in once the wind's died down.

It's still very windy, but we seem to be getting all sorts of weather today, sunshine, rain and even swirling flurries of snow. Let's hope it settles down soon as other parts of the country are having it much worse than us with flooding and wind damage. For now, I'm hunkering down indoors and letting the storm pass.

  2. Oh, poor boys (both of them!) I've had walks where even the underwear got soaked.

I am not surprised Archie was unimpressed, but as I used to explain to Daisy (who also detested bad weather) "until you learn to use a litter tray then it's outside for bathroom breaks . . ."

Hope you get through the rest of this storm without any more damage and that the greenhouse goes back together again OK.

  3. Poor Archie :( John and Ranger have managed quick business walks and avoided the worst of the rain, but the storm continues to rage here too. Take care. Best, Jane x

  5. We are hunkering down too, just when you think it is over it picks up once again. Thankfully we are safe and sound, my heart goes out to all those who have been flooded once again.

  7. It has been a prolonged period of stormy weather hasn't it. I am glad to hear that you have not been flooded and are managing to stay safe in this period of bad weather.

  8. Poor Archie, he doesn't look impressed at all :( None of us here like rain so in bad weather it's out in the garden for just as long as it takes. It's been really horrible here today, I just wish I could hibernate until late spring.

  9. Aww Archie, you do look a little bedraggled. I hope mummy gave you a nice treat when you got home.
Staying home warm and cosy, best place to me.
I hope you didn't have to venture out Jo in the bad weather whilst Mick was at work today?

  10. Poor pup!!!!!! cavalier always look kind of like, help me! So sweet. Well, would you prefer our snow and wind? I don't mind the pretty snow. Glad you didn't get the short straw

  11. The weather is so unpredictable here too. One minute there's a lull in the storm conditions and then more heavy rain and even sleety snow. Poor Archie and your husband! Walkies wasn't much fun when they both got a soaking. Archie looks cute in his hoodie though. We once had a spaniel and I remember how we had to look after his long, furry ears. He was a sweet, bouncy dog.

  12. It was the same here on Sunday. Thankfully the plot was okay when I checked on Monday morning, apart from being really soggy again. xx

  13. Tivvy would have refused point blank to go out in the rain. If she had to go out it was straight out and back in even though poodles are supposed to be water dogs.

  14. Oh, my, sounds like a good ole nor'easter we have on the coast of Maine! Poor Archie and Mick. When I was young and foolish I loved being out on the shore in the lee of the rocks watching the rage of the ocean during our storms. My mantra was "Bring it on!" Now it's " Go Away! " 💖

  16. I love storms like that - as long as I'm safe, dry and warm indoors with lots of knitting and a good book. Stay safe!

  17. Oh look at his little face, he does look rather weather beaten. We locked the cat flap to keep Socks and tinker inside, I was worried they'd be blown away!
My greenhouse suffered also, and we lost a tree. I looked out the window just in time to see it just drop to the ground with a bounce as it landed. The wind is just now picking up for Storm... is it Dennis? I'll be pleased when more sedate weather returns.
    xx

  18. As if Ciara wasn't bad enough we now have Storm Dennis to cope with.
    Stay safe, warm and dry!

    All the best Jan
