The Child

The Child by Fiona Barton is a book I'd seen on a Kindle deal. I'd heard nothing about it before but the blurb interested me sufficiently for me to download it. I'm glad I did as it was a very good read.

"When a paragraph in an evening newspaper reveals a decades-old tragedy, most readers barely give it a glance. But for three strangers it's impossible to ignore.

For one woman, it's a reminder of the worst thing that ever happened to her.

For another, it reveals the dangerous possibility that her darkest secret is about to be discovered.

And for the third, a journalist, it's the first clue in a hunt to uncover the truth.

The Child's story will be told."

I enjoyed how this book was written, short chapters each from the different women's point of view. All quite separate at the start but gradually merging until they were all part of the same story.

It's a book which kept me reading wanting to know more. I'd definitely recommend it.

If you want to see what else I've been reading lately, you can find a list in the sidebar.

  1. Sounds intriguing, often books with children don't go down well in our bookclub. I think it's all relative really, I mean I have children but 2 member's have young children. I may look this one up at the library. Thanks for the review. Cathy x

    1. I can understand people being a bit dubious about reading books about children but without giving anything away, this is more of a mystery about what happened to the child.

    1. I usually enjoy books which I can just read without having to think too hard. It sometimes takes the pleasure out of reading if you have to use your brain.

    1. I only went off the blurb, which can sometimes be misleading, but I enjoyed this one.

  10. Your note reminds me I downloaded a book over Christmas that I intended to read while on vacation, then vacation got cancelled due to Dad's health issues, and I forgot about my book. Might have to charge the Kindle and have a look see. Your book sounds interesting.

  14. I find it so amazing that readers have such differing thoughts on a book, 2 ladies at my book group didn't enjoy this one at all so it didn't get on my 'to read' list.

    1. I think we all look for different things in books. I know I'm quite easily pleased though, I can read a book on it's merits without looking deeper, and I'm quite choosy in what I do read so perhaps that's why there's very few books which I read which I don't enjoy.
