New Sandals

I didn't realise it was four years ago that I bought my last pair of sandals. That's the great thing about a blog, you can look back and find out when you did a particular thing. I wrote about My Gorgeous New Sandals in June 2014 and that very pair of sandals have lasted right up until this year. They've done so well as I wear them every day during the summer months.

I'd been looking for a pair of Jesus sandals and though they weren't exactly what I wanted, the sole was much thicker than I'd have liked, they were pretty close. They've been a great buy though and they were comfortable and have worn well. As they are now looking beyond their best I decided that I needed a new pair this year so I headed back to Clarks to see if they had something similar. I was disappointed to find that the shop didn't have any similar styles but before I gave up, I checked the website and my luck was in, they had exactly what I was looking for originally four years ago, a pair of Jesus sandals with a flat sole.

They come in black, white and gold so I've gone for black again. I've worn them a few times and they're so comfortable so I ordered a second pair to put away ready for when the first pair wear out.

Do you do that? Do you buy more than one if you find something you particularly like, or do you buy the same thing in different colours so that you've got a choice? I have such a hard time finding comfortable footwear that it makes sense to buy a second pair when I find something which fits well.

I do wish the weather wasn't so changeable at the moment though, one day I'm in my lovely new sandals and the next day I'm back in my hand knitted socks, it just can't make up its mind.

  1. They do look lovely so I don't blame you for getting a second pair. I could do with getting some new sandals myself but I've been putting it off, as you can almost guarantee it will rain if I do. X

    1. I tend to put off getting new footwear because I rarely find anything which is comfortable so it definitely made sense to get a second pair whilst I had the chance.

  2. Dear Jo
I do exactly that - if I like a pair of shoes or sandals, I buy several pairs, assuming my budget can cope at the time, otherwise I have to save up or wait for the sales (my favourites are from Moshulu). Comfy feet are vital (that makes me sound so old, but it's true!)
    Best wishes

    1. I totally go for comfort over style, not only in footwear but in clothes too. I haven't heard of Moshulu, I shall take a look.

  3. I often get a second item if the first fits so well. Last year our good local shoe shop closed down, I got 3 pairs of brilliant shoes, 1 pair I wear everyday, 2nd pair (red) I wear for best, the 3rd pair is packed away for when I require a new pair of shoes. I have to have a small heal on my shoes. As for the weather, it's bonkers!! I will be posting about my knitted socks soon, I have picked up my needles.

    1. It definitely made sense to buy whilst you could and now you know that you've got a pair of shoes on stand by for when you need them. I've heard other people say that they can't wear completely flat shoes too. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your socks, I've got a new pair on the go which I'm enjoying knitting.

  4. Your sandals look really comfy, Jo. As for if I buy the same thing is different colours, absolutely. Cardigans especially! :o)

    1. I'm so pleased that I found the sandals I wanted, they're so comfy. Cardigans are a good example of when to buy more than one colour, T-shirts too.

  5. Last year I bought the same sandal in two different colours from Cotton Traders. I'd never had footwear from them before but these are SOOO comfortable.

    1. I didn't know that Cotton Traders do footwear, I shall have to take a look. It's definitely worth buying a second pair of sandals if you find something really comfy.

  6. I love them, Jo! Very nice. I'm on my third year with some Clarks sandals myself. I bought them in black and brown to have options, but have mostly worn the black ones, so the brown will probably go a few years beyond the black, which are still going strong. I love finding good footwear, it's the best feeling.

    1. I wish they'd done a brown in these, I'd have definitely got them. I did order the gold to have a look at those but they were proper gold, not something I'd wear, and the white were more of a cream. I don't mind black though, they go with most things. Clarks are a little more expensive than some other brands but I don't mind paying extra for comfort.

  7. Hooray for you, finding just what you were looking for!

My feet require a certain type of shoe. I need a 1 1/2 inch heel. Have to have a tie shoe, to allow me, to feel more secure on my feet.

So the end result is something like what we call a "nurse's shoe." Not 'spiffy' or 'in fashion.' But what I need.

Have been buying them, from a mail order place, for years. Earlier, I got them locally, but that little shoe store went out of business, and I moved to mail order.

Love this mail order place. Love that I can continue to get the same shoe, for ever and ever. :-)

I can not wear any flat shoes, like sandals or 'flip-flops.' My arch does not 'allow' them. :-)

And I always listen to my body!!!!

    1. I long since gave up on fashion and went for comfort instead. It's a shame how more and more businesses are closing down, there used to be so many shoe shops to choose from here but they're few and far between now. It's great that you're able to buy the same shoes each time you need a new pair, I know that these sandals will only be in stock for one season so that's why I bought a second pair ready for when they're needed.

  8. They are such a classic design and they look so incredibly comfortable. I don't blame you for popping another pair away, it makes perfect sense.

    1. I remember having similar sandals when I was a child. Of course, I complained terribly that I couldn't have the latest fashion then but I buy them through choice now, comfort is premium.

  9. When we were on holiday, I saw a dress I really liked, but I couldn't decide whether to buy the pink one or the blue one ........ so I bought them both!!

  10. I like sandals with a thicker sole, don't like to feel stones which I have with some of the thinner sandals. Yes...when I find something I like I often buy multiples, different colors perhaps...but right there with you. My favorite pair are more comfortable than my newer ones, even though they are the same model etc. I think they've changed the type of rubber or something. Not sure I'll be able to wear any this year though, right now must wear tie shoes for support due to the broken foot. I've found some older style charms doing a google search and may order some new ones and spruce up my old bracelet. I'll be retro...even if it's not the current style. I'm not a fan of the new style Pandora, brightman etc. Not familiar with Eleanor that you mentioned, must google that.

    1. The sandals I bought four years ago had a really thick sole and it was like walking on air. I love it when a pair of shoes have been worn in and are really comfortable, I don't think a new pair, even if they're the same style, are as comfy until they're worn in again. How lovely that you're going to add to your charm bracelet. Eleanor is my daughter, I was saying that she has a Pandora bracelet but the charms are beads rather than the old style of charms, but it's good that you can get ones which represent different life events.

  11. Lovely sandals Jo, casual & yet sophisticated. I often think when something I really love & is comfortable, has passed its used by date, that I'd bought an extra, but very rarely do. Well thought out. Our weather has been very unpredictable here too, though being the 1st day of winter, it's got it right this morning & is only 0.2deg C as I sit writing this at 7.30am. Chilly!!! Have a great weekend & take care.

    1. I'm exactly the same, I often wish I'd bought two of something so I decided I wasn't going to be caught out this time. Oh no, it's all downhill from here, chilly days. I don't envy you at all, I don't like it too hot but I'm not a fan of winter and cold weather at all, as you know.

  12. Oh...if I could buy two pairs of perfect boots/sandals etc I would! I have a pair of boots falling apart at the moment, I've bought three similar types and all are wrong!!! They do look lovely, glad you have two pairs, that's you sorted for eight years!xxx

    1. I do exactly the same thing, wear a pair of boots, sandals, etc until they're falling apart. I've bought so many pairs of footwear that just aren't right that I tend to keep wearing the same pair until they're falling off my feet.

  13. I'm probably due for new sandals. I own very few pairs of shoes because I am so difficult to fit. When I find something comfy I usually buy more than one pair in different colors. I often purchase online because I hate trying on shoes in a shoe store. Your new sandlals are stylish and comfy looking! I hope your weather improves so you can wear them more often. It's still raining here. P. x

    1. I have a few pairs of shoes in my cupboard but tend to stick to one pair of boots in winter and one pair of sandals in summer. I'm just the same, so hard to fit that I hate buying footwear. It's been dry here this week but we're forecast rain again over the weekend.

  14. It's a great idea to buy two pairs and put one away as you wouldn't be able to buy any like them in 4 years' time, it'll all be pointy toes and stiletto heels!

    1. I can't do heels or pointy toes, I used to but I'm all for comfort these days.

  15. Oh yes, I am another person who, if she buys something that fits, looks reasonably good (the best one can hope for now!), and I enjoy wearing, then I will buy another, in a different colour usually. And if I see something I like, then I get it, because you can almost guarantee that when the humming and ha-ing wears off, the thing will be gone.

    1. That's sods law, isn't it? Dithering and then once you make your mind up, the thing's gone. That's usually my mistake too. I see something I like but want to make sure so I trail the town looking in other shops first, only to return to the very first place again.

    1. I think shoe shopping is my second worst type of shopping, clothes shopping is my first. I used to love buying clothes and shoes for the kids when they were little and I don't mind going round the shops with Eleanor now, it's just shopping for myself which I hate.

  18. It's a good idea to buy two! I have far too many pairs of shoes to justify doing that though, I'd run out of wardrobe space. But, yes the weather! I had two jumpers on yesterday after a weekend of shots and vest tops!

    1. I don't have many pairs of shoes at all, and only a couple of pairs which get worn on any sort of regular basis. The weather's been gorgeous but it's a shock to the system when it cools down again.

  19. Those sandals are so pretty! I have to find myself a pair of sandals too - it's sometimes hard to find nice ones without too high a heal that don't have that middle bit that goes between the toes (and always gives me blisters). I actually didn't realize that this style had a name.

And YES! I do purchase extras just in case. I'm a bit of a tomboy, so my favourite pair of shoes are Sketchers Oxfords. They are rather "manly" looking, even though they are women's shoes - they often get mistaken for my husband or sons shoes when they are by the front door :). But that's ok - I'm all about comfort and they are SO comfortable...and extremely long wearing. My current pair started to look rather worn in the past year...after at least 5 or 6 years, I think, of constant wear. I was so relieved to find that the same style was still sold, I did exactly what you did - purchased 2 pairs. I should be well in my 60's before the 2nd wears out - lol!

    1. I can't wear sandals with toe posts, they always give me blisters right between my toes, ouch! I remember friends wearing that style of flip flops when I was a child and longing to be like them but they always caused me so much pain. I'm not a fan of heels so I always go for flat footwear or very low heels. I remember being nearly crippled when I was in my teens because I wanted to wear the latest fashion but I soon stopped that. Good for you getting two pairs of your favourite shoes, at least you know you've got a pair in reserve just in case they no longer make the same style when your current pair wears out.

  20. Hello Jo, i'm here having a catch up of May's postings ....
The tamicolors yarn looks nice and will love joining your stash in the new craft room!
A cold you say - its travelled down south to me, I came down with one this week
Your garden flowers are lovely, what lovely colours and varieties you have out for the spring season
'Bits blanket' that's what one of the ladies at my knit group calls her using up leftover yarn blankets.
Archie does look sweet, I did think of him when my brother came over with his cavalier boy called Charlie, although he's still a baby and only 6 months old.
The rhododendrons are amazing this year, we saw lots in the garden at Sandringham whilst away in Norfolk this month. Its nice to be able to wander the gift shop/estate farm shop and church and not have to pay to go into the house if you are ever close by.

    1. I'm looking forward to casting on something with the Tamiwicolors yarn, it was such a good price that I couldn't resist splurging. I'm sorry to hear that you're full of cold now, I've still got a cough but they always take so long to go. There's more flowers blooming in the garden now, they're loving the sunshine, though they've had some rain today. The poppies have just flowered today so they're providing lots of colour. I've actually started my squares blanket again, I'll explain that in a future post. How lovely that your brother has a Cavalier, they're such sweet dogs. The rhododendrons should last for a while longer yet. I shall remember Sandringham if we return to Norfolk, it's somewhere I'd definitely like to visit again.

  21. Bother .. was going to say was only looking at those exact sandals myself earlier this week and thinking of pressing the buy button ... maybe I will if they are that cmfortable. A long ago broken ankle doesn't make for fashion footwear, has to be flat and comfortable for me.
