An Update On Sammy

I thought I'd give you a little update on Poor Sammy.

Sammy is Eleanor's rabbit and last month we noticed that he'd got some hay caught around his back leg. He'd bitten his leg trying to get it off, but he carried on biting once we'd removed the hay and he ended up having to wear a collar to stop him getting to his leg.

I'm pleased to say that the collar did the trick. He ended up having to wear it for quite a while as each time we took it off, he'd start biting again and we were back to square one, but he didn't seem to mind the collar and managed really well with it on. His leg is now fully healed and he's a very happy bunny again.

You can see the little bird bath in the photo above. This is one of two bird baths I have in the garden, the other is on a stand but this one is quite low. The birds love this as it's quite deep and holds a lot of water so they get a really good bath in it. The blackbirds especially like it. Sammy has realised it holds water so it's the first place he goes to when he's let out of his hutch and run for a scamper about on the grass. He manages to stand on his back legs and has a drink.

He's such a cutie.

    1. It's horrible when there's something wrong with our pets, I did worry about him, especially having to wear the collar but I don't think it bothered him at all.

    1. Sammy does enjoy his trips around the garden. His hutch is on the grass during the summer months and he has access to it in his run and it's on the patio during winter, but we always allow him to have a run around and stretch his legs on the grass. He loves to investigate everything.

    1. Pets really do worm their way in to our hearts so it's only natural that we worry about them. I'm so glad that his leg's better now, it was horrible to see him with the collar on.

    1. He is. I'm glad he's recovered too. He's seven so he's knocking on a bit now so I do worry when he isn't well.

    1. It made me laugh when I first saw him taking a drink from the bird bath. That's the first place he heads for when he's hopping around the garden now.

  12. Glad to hear Sammy's leg is better. It must have been so painful and it's good that the collar helped in the healing process. He's cute at finding extra drinking water. That's a sweet photo of him drinking from the bird bath.

    1. I never thought I'd see a bunny with a collar on but it certainly helped. He loves hopping round the garden and seems to take great delight in drinking from the bird bath.
