Washing Day

Yesterday was the first time this year that I've hung washing on the line to dry. It wasn't a perfect drying day but at least it didn't rain.

Eleanor's bedding dried enough for me to iron it when I brought it in, but it needed airing off before I could put it away this morning.

I love line dried washing, it has such a lovely scent that you don't get when you dry it indoors. We just need it to warm up a little and then we'll be able to get lots more drying done outside.

Don't forget, if you haven't already entered my giveaway, you've got until twelve noon on Friday the 20th of March 2015 to do so, just leave a comment on my Sewing Machine Basics Giveaway post.

  1. It was a lovely day here as well and every thing dried outside. I too love the smell of air dried laundry.

    1. The day started off lovely and sunny but it became dull later on. I just wish it would warm up a bit, it's still really cold.

  2. I am well impressed that you iron the sheets! I can't wait for the first outdoor dried bedding of the year, it is such a pleasing sensation to sleep in such sheets.

    1. I have to confess that I don't always iron bedding, though it's always nice to get in to a fresh, crisp bed instead of a wrinkled one.

  3. Like you, our clothes line came into use this week! There is nothing like air dried clothes. Today it is raining, so it's back to the dryer! (love the colored clothespins!)

    1. My dryer is worse than useless, it's a washer/dryer but I've stopped using the dryer part as it takes all day to dry one load. It means that if I can't get the washing dry outside, it's hung around the house. I'll be glad when it warms up a bit so that I can get everything dry outside.

  4. I line dry most of the time. My only complaint is that it leaves my towels so stiff, I know I could throw them in the dryer, but I don't.

    1. My mum always irons her towels as it softens them when they've been line dried. I suffer them rather than getting the iron out.

  5. I hung mine out yesterday too but it didn't quite dry so I finished it off in the drier. I do love the smell of line-dried washing! :o)

    1. It just isn't warm enough at the moment to get it completely dry, I'm hoping that given another couple of weeks, it will warm up sufficiently to dry it right through.

  6. Very pretty bedlinen. I love it when the weather turns warm enough to hang out washing on the line again. I've put a couple of loads out this week, they don't quite dry but they just need a little finishing off indoors.

    1. Eleanor chose this bedlinen, she's got two sets, I think it's really pretty. I look forward to getting the washing out on the line, it just isn't the same when it's dried indoors.

  7. It's been quite dull and damp here, rain too. I love washing that's dried on the line, it smells and feels so much fresher, I can't wait to start hanging it out again xx

    1. We've had some dull days but it hasn't been too wet. I'm looking forward to getting some sunshine to dry the washing.

  8. I am looking forward to hanging washing out again - it just smells so nice! We bought a new tumble drier in the January sales. It is super-efficient, and we have noticed a big reduction in the amount of condensation in the house.

    1. I wish my dryer worked well, it's just much easier to hang it around the house, even though it's not the prettiest sight. I'll be glad when we can get it all hung outside to dry.

  9. Those sheets are so pretty. I often dry things outside. I just have a short clothesline on the side of my covered porch, but it's so dry here that things are dried in minutes, it seems like. I try to hang as much as I can in the small space!

    1. It must be lovely to have everything dried outside and so quickly too. Even in summer, we can't guarantee the drying weather.

  10. I bought a tumble drier after draping washing round the house to dry for a week. I used it for a week and then the weather turned and I have used it once since then. I agree that there is nothing to compare with line dried sheets.

    1. Tumble dryers are a great alternative to having washing hung around the house. I used to have a brilliant one which got everything dry in no time at all but I changed to a washer/dryer and it's rubbish. I much prefer drying outdoors anyway, if only the weather would cooperate.

  11. You can't beat line dried washing. I agree it has such a lovely scent that you don't get when you dry it indoors. Roll on summer ........

    1. If only we could guarantee the weather in summer, but the reality is that there's often washing hung around the house even then.

  12. I wouldn't know what to do if I couldn't hang my washing outside to dry. I suppose we are lucky with some things here in Oz. My dryer is the same age as my baby - 37 years old, and doesn't get used very much at all, as I nearly always have somewhere undercover to dry on wet days. Take care.

    1. Even the dry days we're getting at the moment doesn't dry the washing completely, we just need it to warm up a bit.

  15. There is nothing like laundry left to the bounties of Nature. Especially sheets and towels were the fresh scent can linger for days.
During this past Winter it has been so frigid some days that the laundry is frozen before the hanging is complete. And the fun part is getting it off to bring it indoors to hang on lines inside.
    The bedding is certainly inviting.

    1. I can't imagine what it's like having to take laundry off the line once it's frozen. I tend to dry mine around the house during winter, it never dries if it's hung outside and my tumble dryer is worse than useless.

  16. I love pegging out washing too. Looking at it flapping in the breeze is very satisfying. I have to double peg it here some days for fear of it blowing away! What pretty bed linen xx

    1. I think I would need to double peg here today if I hung any washing out, it's quite windy. We're going to decorate our bedroom over Easter so I'm looking for new bedlinen and I do like this which Eleanor chose so I'm looking for something along the same lines.

  19. This winter I used a condenser as a temporary drier; a couple of hours in front of my washing hung on the clothes horse with the machine on makes a big difference to the water that gets out into the house.

    1. I've heard other people mention using dehumidifiers and how big a difference it makes to the house when drying washing on the clothes horse. I don't really notice damp air when I'm drying washing but there must be. The dehumidifiers sound really good.

  20. I've bee hanging my washing outside all Winter. I think putting the line along the side of the house where we get the most sun and wind is one of the best ideas I've had!

    1. I see people with car ports at the side of their house use it for washing when the car isn't parked there, it's a great idea. How wonderful to get washing dry outdoors during winter.
