Photo Medley - January

I often have lots of photos on my camera which don't make it on to the blog for one reason or another, I may take a photo which doesn't fit in to a blog post or I may have taken far too many photos of a subject to include them all in one blog post. I had an idea that I would combine all these odd photos at the end of each month and show them on my blog. When it's come near to the end of January, I've had a look at what I've got and unfortunately, it doesn't amount to much, probably because the weather's been too cold to be out and about with my camera and the light too dismal to get good shots indoors.

There's just a few here for January.

The unused bug house covered in snow. I've had this for two years now and not one bug has taken up residence in it.

My Granny Stripe blanket. It's grown just a little since this photo was taken and I'm loving how the colours are working out.

Mrs Blackbird in the garden. I was counting the visiting birds for the Big Garden Birdwatch.

A Dunnock hoovering up the seeds which had been dropped from one of the feeders.

I hope to have more photos to include in the posts at the end of future months, we'll see how it goes.

  1. There seems to be a lot of creative thinking about end of the months photo montages, mosaics, patchworks call it what you will but they all have one thing in common. Talent.... May only be three photo's this month but three very worthy ones.

    1. What a lovely comment, thank you. I hope I can start getting out and about a bit more so that I have more for my photo medleys at the end of the month.

  2. I have bug boxes around our small plot, they remain empty

    1. I think I may need to resite mine. It's nailed to the fence at the moment, perhaps it would be better in a tree or closer to the ground.

  3. great photos and what a good idea.I'm the same I take far too many and then only use a couple. I was working on my nieces University blanket last night. She is off to Bath in Sept so I thought I'd crochet her a granny blanket for a fun going away present

    1. It's a good job we've now got digital cameras, it would cost us a fortune having all the photos we take these days developed. Crochet blankets seem to be popular among students. I made one for Daniel to take with him though I can't say he was overly impressed by it.

  4. What a great idea! Those little bugs just don't know what they're missing - that looks like a lovely little house ;-)

    1. I've been watching eagerly for some residents since I bought the bug house, I've just about given up now. I think a new site may be needed.

  5. I like the granny stripe, how do you do it?

    1. The stitches are three trebles, or US doubles, crocheted together. You can find the pattern on Attic24 blog.

  6. I started a granny stripe blanket recently that I work on when I'm in the car (as a passenger!). It's coming on white well. I'm trying to use up all my leftovers but had to go and buy another two balls today as I don't think I'd have enough to finish the blanket.

    1. I can't do anything in the car as it tends to make me feel sick, I have to look out of the window at all times, such a pain as I could use the time being productive. It's usually the same when trying to stash bust, more yarn always needs to be purchased.

  7. Lovely idea to have a photo medley, I agree with the sentiment about digital cameras, it would cost a fortune otherwise and its great to be able to see immediately if the photo is good or not and bin the rest. Blanket is looking good xcx

    1. I think digital photography encourages more people to take photos too, especially having cameras on phones. I've got in to a rhythm with my blanket now, I'm enjoying it.

  8. Reading this, and looking at the photos, reminds that I must sort through mine.
I would move the bug hotel to another place and see if that makes a difference.

    1. I find it quite time consuming sorting through photos. I think we take so many now that it's digital, I know I was much more restrained when photos were taken on film. I shall definitely move the bug hotel, it's obviously in the wrong place.

  9. hi jo,
your granny stripe blanket looks wonderful and you have me inspired to use up all my leftovers wool,to make a granny stripe blanket too.
    wish you a nice week,

    1. I always find that I'm a colour or two short when trying to use up my leftovers so I end up buying more yarn. The granny stripe is a lovely pattern, so easy to get in to a rhythm with it.

  10. Lovely photos Jo, Im glad I'm not the only one who takes photos for blogging and then never use them! I think its a great idea to have a round up of the month in photos :-) I'm so glad I missed the snow! Loving the colours on your new blanket, I have been making tiny flowers from Lucy's blog, her tutorials are so easy to follow.

    1. I think this will be a good way to use up those photos which never make it to the blog. I'm not a fan of the snow so I'm pleased it's gone, though we're forecast some more at the end of this week.

  11. I like the idea of monthly 'out-takes'. This January seems to have been a strange month - the first part dragged then the second part has charged past. Jx

    1. I always seem to think that the beginning of the year drags. I'm not a lover of winter, especially when the weather is cold, snowy or windy, so I wait for spring to come but it never comes quite quickly enough for me.

  12. I think a post about random photos is a great idea, Jo. I hope you get some bugs in your bug house this year. Actually, it's more like a bug hotel or penthouse suite! It looks like a fabulous place to set up home! :o

    1. This kind of post should definitely use up some of the photos which never usually get aired. I wish the bugs would think of the bug house as a desirable residence, I shall definitely have to move it and see if that attracts any tenants.

  13. I take way too many photos for any sort of blog. Poor bug house with no visitors. Maybe in the wrong spot, but we get plenty of bugs without a hotel for them. I must take a photo of my resident blackbird if I can, as he's always wandering around the backyard, but here we don't get much else very often. Take care.

    1. My bug house was a bargain buy from Morrisons, I think it was only £3. I thought I might have had some occupants by now so I shall move it and see if that attracts any. I had two blackbirds in the garden for the bird count, a Mr and a Mrs.

  14. I shall look forward to your monthly round ups. Well done for doing the bird count, a very worthy thing to do. I love how the snow settled on the bug house, I hope that something takes up residence soon!

    1. I hope I have more things to share at the end of other months than I have this month. We're forecast snow again today and tomorrow, I'm hoping it's not as bad as it was when the bug house photo was taken earlier in the month.

  15. Is there anything nicer than making a blanket with all the bits and bobs left over from other stuff? And how marvellous that digital photography makes it so cheap and easy to record these 'unconsidered trifles' of everyday life!

    1. The only blanket I've made from leftovers was the one I made for Archie and it's actually one of my favourites, just a hotchpotch of colours but I love how it's all so random. I wish I'd had a digital camera when the kids were little, there are certain times when I hardly have any photos of them, whereas I'm sure I'd have been snapping away all the time if I had a digital camera.

    1. I've added a little more to my blanket now. I don't like to rush my projects so I suppose it will take some time to finish, but I'm enjoying the rhythm of it.

  17. It is difficult when you get lots of lovely pictures and don't quite have the place where the fit in a post isn't it. A great idea though to post a medley of them! Such a shame that your bug house doesn't have any residents. Perhaps they are waiting for the flags to be hung out to invite them in. I hope that someone moves in this year! xx

    1. I'm hoping that I can use more of my photos by having a medley post each month, as you say, lots of them get missed from posts otherwise. I shall have to remember the flags when I resite the bug house, perhaps that will tempt them in.

  19. What a good idea to use your unblogged photos. I like the granny stripe blanket, I've got one on the go too. It's such an easy pattern and I can keep one eye on the TV while I'm doing it.
