Scrooge

Eleanor has been performing in Scrooge at the Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds this week with her theatre group, it's the musical version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. We went to see it last night and had a lovely evening.

Eleanor had quite a big part, she took the role of Ghost of Christmas Past and Ghost of Christmas Future. Christmas Future didn't have any lines, she just had to point and gesture but she had lots of lines as Christmas Past and a solo too, Love While You Can. She performed beautifully, as did the rest of the cast.

I asked her to to get some photos in her costumes but they haven't turned out very well. Here she is as Christmas Past.

Christmas Future is a Grim Reaper type figure.

Here she is as one of the townsfolk.

It's hard to remember that the youth theatre which stage these shows each year are made up of children, some of them very young. The shows are extremely professional and well rehearsed, but most of all, you can tell that the kids really enjoy themselves and have a brilliant time.

I'm looking forward to hearing what next year's show will be.

    1. She had a wonderful time. She was a little nervous beforehand but you'd have never known it in her performance, she was a star.

  2. Glad you enjoyed the performance and isn't it great for the kids and that they enjoy it too. The last photo of Eleanor is lovely and is how I remember her. The other two photos are very serious. Have a great week and take care.

    1. I am a very proud mum. Eleanor can be quite shy so it's lovely to see her so full of confidence and enjoying herself on stage.

    1. I've never seen Scrooge, the musical version, before but I really enjoyed it. The Christmas Past costume was Eleanor's favourite.

  5. I know that these amateur shows take an awful lot of work, and having multiple parts is also a lot of work, so Eleanor deserves a massive well done!!! I hope that she enjoyed it a lot, I am sure that you did Jo and were very proud too! xx

    1. We enjoyed it very much and were extremely proud of Eleanor. Some of the children in the company are very young, but they have to be very committed as they rehearse for two hours three times a week for weeks in advance of the shows being performed, and then extra rehearsals are scheduled nearer to the show dates. It's a huge undertaking when they usually have homework and other extra curricular activities going on. Their hard work really shows though, the performances are so professional and they've won awards in the past.

  6. The photos of Eleanor are lovely and a good record to put in the album. Often it's difficult to get photos before and especially after a performance as everyone is concentrating on their role beforehand or celebrating afterwards. Our 'theatrical' grandson is in a musical of A Christmas Carol this year and we're looking forward to going as a family group to see him just before Christmas Day.

    1. I don't get near Eleanor to take photos when she's in costume as we're not allowed backstage and she's not allowed out in costume so I have to rely on her taking her camera and asking someone else to take them. Of course, she manages to get lots of photos taken with friends as her camera is passed round the dressing room. It's nice to have some sort of record though. Enjoy your grandson's performance, I would think it will be similar to Scrooge as they're both telling the same story.

  7. Time seems to fly between each of Eleanor's shows! Scrooge is a great musical. We did a play version of 'A Christmas Carol' a couple of years ago but added all our own festive music. It was a great way to get into the festive spirit. Jx

    1. I know, it doesn't seem two minutes since they were performing Joseph last year. I'd never seen Scrooge before, I didn't think it was going to be my thing but I really enjoyed it.

    1. I'm always really proud when I see her up there, it's something I'd have never dared do myself. It's lovely to have some photos of her in her costumes, I don't have many from the other productions she's taken part in.

  10. I do like the white dress and the addition of the ivy is a lovely touch, totally different to the black one!
I'm glad the show went well and that you enjoyed your evening out when you got to see it.

    1. The ghost costumes were hired by the youth theatre but she had to find the townsfolk costume herself so she borrowed the dress from the drama department at school and someone from Mick's work lent her the apron and cap. The show was really good, there's some very talented kids involved but a lot of hard work goes in to the production by everyone concerned and it really pays off.
