A Street Cat Named Bob

The most recent book I've read is A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, in fact, I haven't read a book so fast for quite some time, I just couldn't put it down. It was an easy read and kept me interested.

It tells the story of how James Bowen found an injured cat, Bob as he was to be known, curled up in the hallway of his sheltered accommodation. He nursed Bob back to health before turning him free, but Bob had had enough of the kind of life he'd lived up to then and so decided to stick around with James. They'd both had troubled pasts and each of them helped the other to go forward.

It's an inspiring and heart warming story, but also deals with the issues and struggles of people on the streets and those fighting addiction.

James has now written a follow up book, The World According To Bob, so I'm hoping to read that one soon.

  2. Hi Jo glad you enjoyed this book. I have bought it for Number one son for Christmas as I think it's a subject he has an interest in. He will quite often buy someone a coffee on route to work to make sure they have had at least a hot drink in the morning. Nice to know I got something right in raising such a compassionate soul.

    1. I hope your son enjoys it. It's very sad how some people end up living on the streets, you wouldn't believe it could happen in this day and age, would you? It seems to be on the increase if anything. It's inspiring how some, such as James, can turn their lives around.

  5. I've seen this book displayed in the book store. It's good there's a follow-up book as I find I get emotionally involved in such real-life stories and want to know how someone is getting on. I shall put this on my book wishlist.

    1. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I agree with what you say, you wonder what's happened after the book's finished, I'm exactly the same. I'm looking forward to reading the follow up now.

    1. It's a fabulous story. I'm such an animal lover that I love to read tales such as this, animals can help people out so much yet they don't often get the credit they deserve. There's lots of clips on You Tube of them both, well worth a look.

  7. Sounds an interesting story. Though I'd probably be in tears from start to finish if I read this book. I'm hopeless with tales involving animals.

  8. It's great to read a book that keeps you interested from start to finish.......homelessness is such an emotive subject, it sounds like a really interesting story.

    1. It really is. James was living in sheltered accommodation when he and Bob came to find each other, but he was busking on the streets and eventually came to sell the Big Issue. It sounds like that little cat really set him on track to get his life back together, a great story.

  9. It does sound interesting :) I just don't get enough time for reading these days, although I'm hoping to fix that in the Christmas holidays and have a book fest!

    1. I tend to read a chapter or two when I go to bed, I don't usually have time for reading otherwise. I enjoy reading on holiday though, I can get through quite a few books in a fortnight.
