Finished At Last

My finished item for July is the blanket which I started over a year ago. I got it completed just before my holiday, as the warmer weather came along, so it hasn't been in use yet.

I'm really pleased with it for a first attempt. There's things I would do differently next time, but overall I'm satisfied.

It's quite a large blanket. 10 squares by 14 and measuring about 55 inch by 77 inch. It will keep us toasty and warm in winter.

I used Stylecraft Special DK and it feels really soft. It will be easier to wash being made from an acrylic yarn. I chose the colours randomly, popping my hand in to the bag and using whichever colour I chose, I think it worked out pretty well that way.

I'm not too sure about the border. I did one round of double crochet, two rounds of treble crochet, then another round of double crochet. I don't know whether my tension is wrong or what, but it ruffles around the edge. I don't mind though, it doesn't really matter.

Eleanor's already asking if she can have it, so I may just have to crochet another one. I might be a bit quicker next time.

  3. It's beautiful Jo. I love the way you've used white around the squares - is that how you joined them together? As you can tell I know nothing about crochet!

  5. I wish that I could crochet - many attempts to teach me by my dads sister when I was young failed although I did learn to knit! Your blanket is stunning and I can see why your daughter would want to nab it for herself! The colours go ever so well together!

  7. I've been looking forward to this! It's beautiful Jo, really lovely. The colours are gorgeous and I love the way you've joined it with the white. Samantha keeps nicking my things, all of a sudden they appear in her room and then I feel guilty if I take them back! Lots of love xxxx

  14. Thank you for all your wonderful comments, they're all so very much appreciated.

Scarlet - Yes, the squares are joined by double crochet using the cream yarn. I think it makes the squares stand out better.

  18. Thank you for visiting, Karen, and for your lovely comment. It seems such a long time ago now since I crocheted this blanket, but it's had so much use, everyone fights over it when the weather's cold.
