Vitamin Sea

It's been over a year since we've visited the coast, the last time was March 2020 just before the first lockdown. We could have visited since, restrictions were lifted and then put back in place twice, but we've kept away from crowds. I've had a yearning to see the sea though, so with Mick being on holiday from work this week, we decided that a trip to the seaside was in order.

Monday dawned sunny, bright and warm so we decided to head straight off on Day 1. We did have a few doubts as we passed by York and a mist rolled in but that soon passed us by and the sun shone again. We really couldn't have asked for a sunnier day.

Scarborough is probably our closest seaside town and we really like it there so that's where we headed. I think Archie's missed the sea too as the minute he was let off his lead he couldn't wait to go for a paddle.

He was in and out of the sea. I couldn't believe the weather, beautiful sunshine, not a cloud in the sky, and even though it can usually be quite windy at the coast there wasn't even a breeze. It was really warm.

Restrictions have now been lifted but I'm in no hurry to visit crowded places so I was a little apprehensive about visiting the seaside but I needn't have worried, there were no crowds.

Even the town itself was very quiet. Children returned to school after the Easter holidays on Monday so I'm sure that helped. It was definitely less busy than I'd been expecting.

Beach treasure.

We had a walk around the harbour.

I love looking at all the boats.

Scarborough has a working harbour and a thriving fishing industry. Fishing trips can be taken from the harbour as well as pleasure cruises.

There's always a gull who is happy to stand a pose for a photograph.

Mick and I shared a bag of chips for our lunch and Archie may have snaffled one or two. Then we had an ice-cream. Well, you can't visit the seaside without indulging can you. They were huge!

Then it was back on the beach. We had to walk those ice-creams off.

It was just what the doctor ordered. We couldn't have picked a better day weather wise and I came home feeling fully refreshed. Archie was zonked all night!

  2. Simple things and places make our hearts sing, we have not yet gone further afield. We have both had our second jabs, so soon we will carefully start doing more, like you go when the crowds are not about.

  3. Fabulous! I went to the coast last week but didn't get that wonderful seaside smell of salt water and sea weed.
Those ice creams look delicious and Archie certainly looks very happy there on the sand. I suspect you'll go back for another visit soon. X

  7. Sounds amazing! I love the beach and while we do have several freshwater beaches nearby, you really can't beat the salt air and a true ocean beach.

  11. What a wonderful day out, it looks absolutely blissful. I've been missing the coast as well, there's something so soothing about being by the sea. And I always insist on chips and ice-cream. Glad you had such a good day, and Archie looks as if he was loving it. I bet he slept well afterwards! CJ xx

  12. I'm glad you got to the sea at last Jo, I love Scarborough and that beach looks lovely with not a soul in sight. We've been so lucky with the weather this week it's about time we had some warm sunshine. The ice cream looks yummy and of course it's a must when you visit the seaside. Xx

  13. So glad you got to the seaside and like me, we do need our salty sea air fix and Scarborough to boot. You could have run into my stepdaughter and family, but weekdays it is school & work. We are ever so lucky with about an hour's drive to the coast & beaches that are basically deserted, so no crowd worries. Enjoy the rest of M's break, take care & hugs. PS: thanks for the photos of a place I know reasonably well.

  15. How absolutely wonderful!!! We are too far away for a day trip really but I am hoping to book a few days away in the summer. I went shopping yesterday in our town centre for the first time since lockdown eased and was surprised how busy it was, it seemed as busy as normal so I was quicker going round than I had hoped to be. x

  18. What a lovely day away! Your beach walking reminded me of the love I have for those in southern Maine. It was interesting also to see the difference in trap construction there and the number of boats so close together. Of course Archie is always the star of the show, what a cutie! 💖
