My Home Is Where The Heart Is cross stitch was finished last year, this was the very first cross stitch project that I'd ever completed but it wasn't the first cross stitch project I'd attempted, I'd started one when I was in my teens, over thirty years ago. It was an Anchor kit which had been given to me as either a birthday or Christmas present by my brother. I remember stitching away on it but I eventually got fed up and put it to one side never to be worked on again. I thought I'd dig it out and see how much of it I'd got done.
This is the kit, the design is a white pussy cat sat amongst pretty pink flowers.
It's not a big project but I remember it being quite a laborious task stitching all that white, perhaps that's why I got fed up with it.
Here's what I got done. There's actually more to it than the Joyful World project I'm working on at the moment as it has half stitches and backstitch, not my favourite thing.
There isn't much left to do so I shall definitely work on it to get it finished at some point now that I've found it again, it would be nice to complete it.
I had to go and re-read your post!ReplyDelete
Have I got it right that this is from 30 years ago?
It does look a nice design and the colours go very well don't they.
Happy Friday Wishes
All the best Jan
Ha ha, yes, you read that right. I can remember stitching it all those years ago but it never got finished so it would be nice to finally get it done now.Delete
It looks nearly done! I haven't done crossstitching since my school days and now my eyesight is probably not good enough :-) The dog just ate my reading glasses...ReplyDelete
There isn't that much cross stitching left to do but then there's the backstitch and that's something I don't like doing. I wear my glasses when stitching but I still need a magnifier as well. Ooops, I think it will be a trip to the opticians for you.Delete
It's a pretty design i hope you manage to finish it. I'm not a fan of back stitch either, i tend to stitch designs that have very little or no back stitching now, although on something like this it will really bring it to life.ReplyDelete
I'm very impressed that you kept it all this time :-)
I'm glad I kept it so that I can finish it off. I really dislike backstitch so I think I'll be hunting out projects that has little of it too from now on, but I do agree that it brings a project to life and can see how this project needs it.Delete
I hope you finish it, it will be beautiful when it is done! I have been catching up on long lost projects too, it is nice to get them done!ReplyDelete
I'm sure it will get finished at some point. I think this is the only long forgotten project I've got but there's a few from more recent times that I've put on the back burner for a while.Delete
Looks worth finishing. Can't believe you've held onto it all these years. We've moved so many times I don't think I have anything left from my teen years except my husband.ReplyDelete
I must admit that I don't have many things from my childhood or teenage years, my mum has never been very sentimental and got rid of most things but this cross stitch was saved somehow.Delete
It'll be good to see it finished. Flighty xxReplyDelete
I think so, there isn't much left to do so it shouldn't take long.Delete
Oh, that's so great - to get another go at a project you started in your teens! I'm wondering if you'll see a difference in the old vs new stitches as you would in a knitting project.ReplyDelete
I never thought of that. It will be interesting to see if there's a difference in my stitching.Delete
How lovely. Its going to be lovely to see it finished. Have a great weekend.Delete
It will be lovely having a project I started so long ago finally finished, it's a wonder it's still kicking around.Delete
Good on you for pulling it out. Once something hits my WIP pile, it's almost never seen again.ReplyDelete
I'm surprised that this has survived being lost for over thirty years but it will be nice to get it finished off.Delete
You did a great job of it, Jo, and it's going to look fab when it's finished. I wonder what your brother will say when you tell him! :o)ReplyDelete
This was the very first piece of cross stitch I ever did so I think it's quite acceptable, it will be nice to finish it off.Delete
Wow, 30 years on & it hasn't gone to a charity shop or other crafty person. Now found, I hope you get it done & either have it framed or maybe turn it into a cushion. Have a great weekend & take care.ReplyDelete
I don't really have very much from all those years ago so it's nice to have this, or it will be once I finish it.Delete
It looks lovely Jo, the last cross stitch I did was for a chair seat that belonged to my late Mother in Law, I inherited the seat and it does need a new sseat cover made, maybe this winter.ReplyDelete
What a great project, something to really get your teeth in to over the winter months.Delete
I'm sure it wouldn't take long to finish that lovely picture and then you'd have something completed that belongs to the younger you and the you now. I love that connection! xxReplyDelete
There isn't much left to do so it shouldn't take long but, urghhh, all that backstitch. It is a good connection having something that's been worked on so many years apart.Delete
I am impressed by your stamina a project from 30 years ago would never have survived here. Good for you.ReplyDelete
I'm not sure how it survived all this time, my mum got rid of so much stuff from my childhood and teens. It's good to have it.Delete
Unfinished work... I wonder how many unfinished projects I have! :)ReplyDelete
Perhaps you've got some older than this, who knows.Delete
I am impressed you have kept it for that long! Happy stitching.ReplyDelete
I'm glad I did keep it, it will be lovely once it's finished.Delete
You have to finish it now you've shown it to us. I think it's just lovely!xxxReplyDelete
I definitely intend to finish it at some point, it would be a shame not to now that I've discovered it again.Delete
Fancy you still having that! I think working with white can be a bit boring but I bet it'll look fab once it is all done. I like the co-ordinating colours of the flowers.ReplyDelete
I think any colour can be a bit boring if there's whole blocks of it but there isn't that much left to do now so I really do want to get it finished. It must be the longest running project in history.Delete
