My Birthday

It was my birthday at the beginning of September. The roses I were bought have now died but the lilies are still going strong.

I got lots of yummy chocolates. I do like to savour nice choccies, I've still got about half left.

I received other lovely gifts including perfume, things for the garden, a dvd, smellies and money.

My birthday fell during the week Mick had taken off work so we decided to spend the day, as we had done last year, in Skegness.

It probably wasn't the best day to visit the seaside, it was quite dull and actually rather cold, but we made the best of it. We didn't stay as long as we would have done had the weather been better but I still enjoyed our day out.

While we were in Skegness, I visited the little yarn shop I'd discovered last year and bought a couple of extra shades to go with the yarn I bought from there last year. This time I chose Raspberry and Claret. I think these colours will compliment the other autumnal colours I previously chose. I want to make a blanket with it eventually but I still haven't decided what sort.

I also bought a couple of balls of craft cotton, I use this for making dishcloths and had recently run out.

Time was getting on by the time we got home so we decided to go out for my birthday meal the following day. It was nothing special, just Pizza Hut, but we enjoyed it just the same.

    1. Thank you. I like to buy nice flowers from the market but I have to admit that they never last as long as supermarket flowers do. I suppose they must be grown with certain chemicals or sprayed with something or other to make them last longer.

    1. Thank you. Roses never last as long as other flowers but they are lovely. My friend bought me the lilies and they took a while to open out but they're gorgeous now they have.

  8. Yellow roses are my favourite. The colour combination in your first picture is gorgeous. Are the other flowers freesias?
Glad you had a good day, even if it was a bit nippy.
What better way to spend your birthday, pizza and buying yarn? Perfect x

    1. Yellow roses are my favourite too. Yes, they're fresias, they're another of my favourite flowers, Eleanor knows my tastes as she bought me the roses and fresias. I had a lovely birthday, it was nice having Mick off work to celebrate it with me.

    1. Thank you. It would have been nice to have some better weather for our day out but at least it didn't rain, that wouldn't have been good at all.

    1. Thank you. I was thoroughly spoilt, I received some wonderful gifts. I'm hoping the Raspberry and Claret go with the shades I've already earmarked for the blanket, I haven't checked them out together yet.

  15. Lovely flowers and choccies. Glad you had a good birthday at the seaside, although the weather wasn't the best. The colours of the wool are pretty and am waiting to see what you end up doing. Take care.

    1. I still enjoyed visiting Skeggy, it would have been a little nicer had the sun put in an appearance though. I'm still debating what kind of blanket to make with the yarn, I do love ripples but I've already made two so perhaps I'll make something different this time.

  16. Happy belated birthday Jo. Skegness is much better when the sun has got his hat on. I need to find this shop. I did find one a couple of years ago whilst in Skeg that was above a row of shops. Is that the same one or is there another one that I am not aware of. They seem to have more of the shades than our Boyes does and I usually order from Wool Warehouse which is fine if I need several colours but if I only want one or two it would be better to drive up to Skeg and pick them up. Your parcel had arrived when I got home last night and everything is in tact. I liked the extra treats for the boys and they have put away. D and A are going off for a weekend and I am staying at home with the boys so they will be able to enjoy them whilst I am eating lots of chocolate and crocheting. I will keep Mr Bumble safe until next spring as it gets very blowy here at this time of year especially when the sea comes up the estuary.

    1. Thank you. Skegness is definitely better bathed in a bit of sunshine. The yarn shop is on Edinburgh Avenue which is right opposite the log flume on the front. It's only a small shop and doesn't have a huge range but it's great for Stylecraft Special DK as it's only £1.35 a ball, I've never found it so cheap anywhere else. Glad to hear the parcel's arrived, Jumbones are Archie's favourites so I thought your boys might enjoy them.

    2. I think I know where that is. I don't go up to Skeg very often especially in season but as that's now coming to an end I may venture up there when D and A are away for the weekend and I can spend as long as like browsing.

    3. The owners are really lovely and very helpful too. I'm sure the lady would remember me if you told her there was a mad Cavvie whining outside because he didn't want to stay there with Mick. He's such a pain if I go inside a shop and leave him, even when he's with another family member. I hope you get what you want, don't forget to show us.

  17. What a pretty tin that Betty's chocolate is in. And Green and Black's yummy. I keep any chocolate gifts in a special tin in my wardrobe away from other people and then I can indulge in a little whenever I fancy it!

    1. The Betty's box is very stylish, most things from Betty's is. I do like nice chocolate but I don't buy it for myself so it's nice to have some bought as gifts.

  18. It was my birthday last week, too! Snap! And I had some Green & Black chocs! Best of all one son and his partner, on hearing me complain about my aching feet (I have arthritis) bought me a Shiatsu foot massager, and it's lovely! Other son and his partner gave me a lovely little Radley umbrella, one small enough to go into my (Radley) handbag that they bought me for my last birthday.
    Never been to Skeg.
