Challenge Update - September

My 2013 challenges are:-

1) Watch one old film each month.

2) List five items on Ebay each month.

3) Have a date night with Mick each month.

I chose a Marilyn Monroe film for September, Bus Stop. I can't say I'm a huge Marilyn fan but I enjoyed watching this film. It's a romantic comedy with a simple storyline which seems quite dated now, but still very watchable. It's not one of the best films I've chosen to watch this year, but it certainly isn't the worst.

My Ebaying is going well and I'm managing to sell most of the things I'm listing. I'm not making a huge amount of money doing this, but it's getting rid of some things which would only go to the charity shop or be passed on to someone else, so any money I do make is a bonus and it all adds up. It will be interesting to see the balance of my Paypal account at the end of the year.

Mick and I went for a carvery for our date night. We both love Sunday roasts, though we don't often cook one on a Sunday, I usually cook ours on a Monday, so it was nice to go out for this type of meal. We both had both beef and turkey and a selection of vegetables. We had a voucher for 15% off both food and drink, so it worked out very reasonable.

It's going to be a busy weekend, we've got last minute university shopping to do tomorrow as well as a food shop for Daniel, and a party tomorrow night for our friend's son for his 18th. Sunday is the big day as Daniel heads off to university. It's all very exciting.

  1. Good luck to Daniel. KL has settled in well and has some lovely flatmates, has met the people on her course and become friendly with some of those, her student finance has landed in her bank account, she's having her first tattoo today, her boyfriend is visiting her for the weekend and she seems happy. J and I are enjoying ourselves too!

    1. Thank you. I'm pleased to hear that KL has settled at uni, she sounds as though she's used to the change which life at university brings all ready. I bet it's all quiet in your house now, it will nice for just the two of you to have some time together.

  2. It IS exciting!!!
How do you feel about your son going off to University now that the time is upon you? I know you're so proud and happy for him, but at the same time I bet there is a little part of your heart that is skipping a beat...
I've never heard of that movie with Marilyn Monroe, to be honest I have never seen a movie with her in it!
I hope you have a great weekend,
    Tammy

    1. I'm really excited for Daniel, university brings so many new experiences and opportunities so I hope he takes advantage of everything he can. On the other hand, my heart is skipping a beat, he's my first one to leave home so that's a little scary, though York isn't very far away from Leeds so that eases the worry a little, we're only half an hour away if he needs us. I will miss him though.

  3. My favourite Marilyn movie, by far, is Some Like It Hot. Though that's probably more to do with the fact that it's got Jack Lemmon in it - I absolutely love him. I'm a big fan of old movies, especially musicals, as my dad was a massive fan. I have extremely fond memories of watching them sat snuggled up with him on the sofa.
Good luck to Daniel as he heads off on a new and exciting chapter in his life. How are you feeling about it all? I know I'd be very emotional. xx

    1. I've tried to get Eleanor interested in old films, I thought she might like some of the old musicals as she's so in to musical theatre, but she isn't really bothered for them. I think my overwhelming emotion about Daniel heading off to uni is one of pride, I'm just so so proud of him. It is an exciting chapter in his life but I know I'll miss him so much and I'm going to try not to get emotional on Sunday but I'm not sure how successful I'll be.

  4. York isn't far - a great excuse to meet up with him for a meal/cuppa? What a great challenge idea. I'm decluttering right now - a drawer at a time lol! Steady away! Don't want to shock the system eh? Dx

    1. I'm really pleased he got in at York, is was where he wanted to be as the course looks really good, and it's such a beautiful city, plus, as you say, it's not very far away. I think it's so much easier to declutter bit by bit, we'll both get there in the end.

    1. Thank you. Our friends have said that it will be a good way to send Daniel on his way as well as celebrating their son's 18th, so that's nice.

    1. Thank you. That's exactly the sentiments I'm feeling, I think it will be very quiet here next week, though Eleanor will still be here so maybe not.

  10. Glad you are keeping up with your challenges and seem to be enjoying them.
I don't know how to use Ebay, but am having a huge garage sale in October, ready for our impending move. I'll keep you posted as to what we are up to soon. Hope you enjoy your busy weekend.

    1. They're easy challenges to keep up with as they're things I'm enjoying. It's quite time consuming listing things on Ebay, that's why I'm only doing five items each month, but can be worth it. Good luck with your garage sale, I hope you manage a good clear out and make plenty of money.

  11. Hi Jo, I take my hat off to you that you are managing to keep up to your monthly challenges. Ebaying ---now I find that such a pain to do so I'm glad you are managing to sell most of the things you list.

    1. It's so easy when the challenges are something you enjoy. It's such a drag to list everything on Ebay, that's why I only set myself the challenge of five items each month, that's quite enough.

  12. It's good that your listings have been listing, so much more of a boost to keeping doing it each month when things make their way out and the door and the paypal balance increases!
I love MM but I have to say this isn't my favourite film of hers. The Seven Year Itch is fab. I had quite a few on video and I noticed on amazon ones I have never seen are quite cheap so they are on my Christmas list.

    1. I haven't had many things which haven't sold, one man's rubbish is another man's treasure. I'm really looking forward to seeing how much I've made at the end of the year, especially as the things I'm selling are things I'd usually give to charity or pass on. Mick likes Marilyn Monroe, I wonder why, and he like The Seven Year Itch too, I've never seen it so I must put in on my list.
