Kirkstall Abbey Deli Market

We had a trip over to the other side of Leeds on Sunday to visit Kirkstall Abbey Deli Market. Those who have been reading my blog for a while may remember my post a couple of years ago about Kirkstall Abbey. This is the first time we've been since that trip.

The market is held on the last weekend of the month in the Abbey cloisters. The Saturday market seems to be geared more towards food, and the Sunday market is more of a craft market, though there's a mixture of stalls on both days.

The stalls are set out around the edges with plenty of seating available in the centre, where a band was playing.

There was such a variety of stalls selling all manner of things, plants, textiles, pies, cheeses, button badges, cakes, toys, the list goes on.

We'll definitely be making a return visit, this time on a Saturday. The food stalls we saw on Sunday were fabulous, lots of lovely goodies on offer, so I'd really like to see what the Saturday market is like.

As we were leaving, I noticed the dandelions growing in the walls of the ruins.

It's amazing how plants grow in the most inhospitable locations.

The weather is lovely here today, sunny and warm. I do hope it continues for the bank holiday weekend. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, whatever the weather.

  1. Sunny and warm here too. Just taking a break from weeding - I love markets like this, the food is good quality and the plants much cheaper than garden centres.

    1. There's plenty to see at the market, and then there's the abbey to look round and the river to walk by too. I shall definitely be returning.

    1. That would be lovely. It's a shame that the markets are only monthly, I'm looking forward to my Saturday visit now.

  9. Jo, you've done it again. I've spent some lovely times at Kirkstall Abbey as one of my sisters-in-law live in Kirkstall and we've walked along the canal there too. I even have pictures of them reroofing a small part of the abbey.
The market looks fab and I would love to go.

    1. There's some really lovely stalls. I was very partial to the cheese stall, which had lots of yummy samples. Not quite so much sunshine today, but it hasn't been bad.

  12. How nice to have a regular market in such lovely surroundings. I noticed it when we have passed it on the way to the airport and wondered about it. I will now go and read your linked post. Hope your weekend is going well. I expect you have a lot of gardening planned!

    1. The surroundings are fabulous, it really adds to the occasion. It's a bit of a balancing act on holiday weekends as I do like to get some jobs done in the garden, but we like to have trips out too.

    1. It wasn't too bad, especially considering the weather we've been used to so far this year. It could get chilly standing around if you're manning a stall though. Kirkstall Abbey is a lovely place, and kids seem to love it, lots of hiding opportunities.
