A Sunny Bank Holiday Weekend

I can't believe how lovely the weather's been this weekend. We've really made the most of it so far, and as the sun is continuing to shine today, I'm going to spend some time at the allotment.

Yesterday, we stayed close to home with another trip to Lotherton Hall. We parked the car, spread some blankets on the ground, and I read my book while Mick, Daniel and Eleanor knocked a ball around with a cricket bat. Many families had the same idea as us so it was quite full, but there was plenty enough room for us all.

After a while, we decided to go for a wander. The formal gardens are just starting to fill out now. They can look a little bare in winter but they're stunning in summer. Here's Mick and Archie taking a look.

The trees, beech hedges and topiary give the gardens lots of structure.

The frothy cow parsley is everywhere just now.

And so are daisies.

As soon as I got my new camera, Eleanor snaffled my bridge camera and is enjoying using it. I'll show you some of her photos in another post, she's a more natural photographer than I am.

Archie has to be on his lead in the formal gardens so afterwards, we went to the back of the hall where there's lots of fields and he can have a good run.

The sun was beating down, it was really hot and I've got a bit sunburnt.

Archie had a borrow of Daniel's sunglasses. I think he was a bit relieved to have the sun out of his eyes, he was quite content to lie there and pose in them.

The deer were quite close to the fence, they're often much further away than this.

I love these vans which we came across parked up, so bright and colourful and lots of fun.

We've been lucky with both May bank holiday weekends this year, especially after the weather we've had thrown at us so far this year. If only it could last a little while longer.

    1. I don't think you'd be disappointed with Lotherton Hall, there's something for everyone there. We're so lucky that we're only five minutes away, we often take Archie for a good run there.

    1. I think you deserve a lazy bank holiday weekend after all the work you do during term time. It's so nice to just sit and relax sometimes.

    1. It was lovely to have a sunny bank holiday weekend again, it makes such a difference. I was surprised that Archie kept the sunglasses on, he's usually a bit of a fidget.

    1. It was lovely goung out as a family, these sort of days are few and far between now that Daniel's eighteen. In fact, Eleanor doesn't come out with us as much as she used to either, they're both growing up. Archie does make me laugh.

  9. That looks like such a lovely day. I'm so glad that, considering all the we weather we've had, the sun shone for the bank holiday weekend. It makes such a difference. I enjoyed your Holmfirth post too, although seeing how touristy it is has put me off going a bit! x

    1. What are the chances of having two sunny bank holidays in one month? You're right, it does make a big difference. I think Holmfirth will be interesting to people who watched Last Of The Summer Wine, and it does have some stunning scenery and lovely gift shops, but I think it's one of those places that once you've seen it there isn't much left to do.

  10. It's been pouring it down here today and the Oh had to be out in the rain clearing the drains which had blocked - rather him than me! The weather was great on Saturday and Sunday which has made up for the rain yesterday and today! Great photo of Archie in the shades.

    1. It started off wet yesterday, but brightened up later on. Just as well as Daniel was at Headingley watching the cricket. We've been so lucky with the weather over the bank holidays, it really made a difference to see some sunshine.
