A Festive Cushion

I haven't picked up my knitting needles since I finished the scarf in September, so my finished item for November, again, is crocheted.

I bought the yarn, Kool Kotton by James C Brett, back in June when we called in at Coldspring Mill on our way home from Haworth, but have only just got round to crocheting it up in to a cushion cover.

The front and back are exactly the same, and I've joined them together with double crochet. I think the red edging really adds something to it and just finishes it off.

My sewing skills leave a lot to be desired, so rather than trying to insert a zip, I decided to attach the cover to a ready made cushion cover which already had a zip in place. It will be easy now to remove the cover for washing.

I'm really pleased at how well the colours go together, and having red and green in there makes it quite festive.

I love how this has turned out, and as I've got enough yarn left over, I've decided that my December make will be an exact copy of this one so that I've got a matching pair. I'd like to have it finished in time for Christmas.

  1. I love it, Jo. The colours are very pretty together. It proves that the old saying "red and green should never be seen" is a lot of rubbish! :o)

    1. Thanks. I wasn't quite sure that the colours would go together as well as they do, so I've been pleasantly surprised.

  2. Okay Jo...that is just gorgeous! My mom once taught me to crochet and I have forgotten how! How hard do you think it would be to pick it back up again? Id make all sorts! This is so pretty, I love the colors!

    1. Thank you. I only learnt to crochet last year. I bought a book showing the basics and then watched YouTube tutorials and picked it up from there. You should definitely give it a go.

  5. That's one very pretty cushion cover. Once you've completed the other cover you could have a go at a throw to put over you on these cold winter nights!

    1. Thanks. We're snuggling up under my big blanket at the moment, thought everyone wants a piece of it so another one might not be a bad idea.

  9. It's lovely! The border really sets it off. I just crocheted a large granny square cushion just like that but mine sort of leans to the left in each corner, if that makes sense. Is it because I'm right handed? Did yours do the same? Should I block it? Sorry, so many questions! x

    1. I'm pleased with the border, it makes it stand out. I haven't blocked mine at all, and I haven't noticed mine leaning to the left even though I'm right handed. When you finish one colour, do you start the next colour from a different corner? I always make sure that once I've finished off, I rotate the work anti clockwise to the next corner in order to attach the next colour. I don't know if this is why mine doesn't lean, but it's worth a try.

    2. Thanks so much for this Jo. No, I don't rotate the corners, but I will try this next time and see if it makes a difference. I think I should've blocked it too, as I've found blocking hides a multitude of sins!

    3. I always block my knitting, but don't bother with crochet. I hope that by rotating your work, it helps with the leaning issue.

  10. It's really fab. Such a good idea to attach it to the cover the way you have.

    1. Thank you. I'm all for an easy life, it seemed so difficult to me to attach a zip so this is the next best thing.

    1. Thanks. I was a bit unsure when I bought the yarn, but these were the only colours they had it in. It's a bit of a happy accident.

  12. WISHING YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I'm sorry but I can only look at those chocolates now.

So purely for wrapper colour alone I would say the blue chocolate.
