Busy Busy

I woke up this morning with a sore throat. Not surprising really as I always tend to get them when I'm run down. Sometimes it's prelude to a cold, but other times it goes without developing in to anything else. I'm really hoping that it's the latter this time.

It's been a particularly busy time over the past week, firstly as my dad was taken in to hospital last Friday so we've been backwards and forwards to the hospital visiting him. He's home now, thank goodness, but will have to go in again in the new year for an operation.

We've also felt like a taxi service this week, more so than usual, as Eleanor is performing in Peter Pan at The Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds, and it's an hour round trip to drop her off, and another hour round trip to pick her up. As the theatre is in the centre of Leeds, there's no convenient parking, so it takes two of us, one to drive round waiting whilst the other escorts her to and from the theatre. They rehearse there in the days leading up to opening night, 6pm till 10pm, so that adds to the run of days we're required to make this trip.

I went to see the play last night. Eleanor is taking the part of Tootles, one of the Lost Boys, but she's also understudy for Wendy and Mrs.Darling. It's been no mean feat learning three parts, but Eleanor's enjoyed every minute of it.

    1. I'm extremely proud of Eleanor, she's doing so well with her acting and singing. The cold has developed, unfortunately. I intend to take it easy this weekend.

  2. How exciting to have Eleanor in so many plays! I hope your dad gets better; I lost mine about 15 years ago.

    1. Thank you. My dad is doing well at the moment, but it's always a worry. He'll be 80 next year. Eleanor absolutely loves performing on stage.

  3. I hope that your sore throat hasn't got worse during the day, and sorry to hear about your dad.
It sounds like Eleanor is having a ball.

    1. My sore throat has developed in to a cold, Sod's law when I could do without it. My dad is doing fine right now, we're just keeping our fingers crossed that it doesn't turn out to be anything untoward. Eleanor's having a fantastic time, which I'm so pleased about. I'm sure all this performing is helping her self confidence.

  4. Sorry about your Dad and your sorethroat.... I get them at times of stress too. But how wonderful to be busy for such a good reason. Hope she breaks a leg!

    1. I told Eleanor to break a leg, but as she's so accident prone, I added that I didn't mean it literally. My throat tells me that I've had a run of late nights, or if things are getting me down. It's developed in to a cold this time though, so annoying.

    1. Thanks. She's having a fantastic time this week. My dad is doing well at the moment, I wish I could say the same, but at least I've only got a cold, it could be worse.

  6. How exciting to see Eleanor in a play! Sorry to hear your Dad is unwell - it sounds like you have a lot on your plate. Sore throats and run down parents feature heavily in this house too - thank goodness it's Friday! x

    1. Eleanor is an old hand at performing now. She doesn't have any nerves, I only wish I could say the same when I see her perform. Sorry to hear that you're having a hard time at the moment too. Ahhh, Friday, my favourite day of the week.

    1. I've had better weeks. My dad is doing really well at the moment, he's not one to let things keep him down. I was supposed to be seeing Eleanor again tomorrow, but I don't think I'll be well enough. I intend to do nothing more stressful than a bit of blogging this weekend, I think I've done my fair share this week.

  8. Poor you Jo! Glad your dad is out of hospital now and that he is a bit better. Sounds as if you are going to be exhausted in the coming weeks shuttling Eleanor about. Take care!

    1. Eleanor did her final performance last night, so I'm hoping things quieten down a little now, though I've hardly even thought about Christmas yet, so perhaps not.

    1. I was supposed to see Eleanor again last night, but couldn't manage it, I was so upset. Mick and Daniel went though, so she wasn't without someone there supporting her. I've tried not to do too much over the weekend, but you know how it is, washing and ironing needed doing, so I couldn't just see it sitting there.

  10. Hope that you're starting to feel a little bit better.... it still seems like a long time until the Christmas break! I bet Eleanor's had a wonderful time. There's nothing like performing in a proper professional theatre.
It's good to hear that your Dad is more stable and out of hospital. It sounds as if everything has come at once.
    LOve to you all, Jx

    1. I've had a bit of a rough weekend, but I'm hoping that I'm over the worst of it now. Eleanor has enjoyed it immensely. They do a performance each year in this theatre, and it's so special for them. They're all kids in the company, the eldest 17 and the youngest, well, tiny. I think they all get so much out of it. I think everything comes at once, but things should settle down a little now.

  12. Oh, good luck to Eleanor ... is it still the thing to say 'break a leg'?

I'm so glad mine are mostly now old enough to drive themselves, you can no doubt imagine how very many miles of taxiing we did, having four kids and living in the country!

    1. I told Eleanor to break a leg too, though I did hasten to add, not literally, she's rather accident prone, you see. Yes, I can imagine the hours you've spent behind the wheel of your car driving four around, and I think I've got it bad with two.
