The Thursday Murder Club

There were over one hundred people in front of me waiting for The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman when I put in a reservation at the library, it's been a very popular book. I could have bought it but I do like to use my local library whenever I can as so many libraries are fighting to stay open these days and that will only happen if people make good use of them.

"In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet up once a week to investigate unsolved murders.

But when a brutal killing takes place on their very doorstep, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of their first live case.

Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron might be pushing eighty but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves.

Can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer before it's too late?"

This is Richard Osman's debut novel and I think he's done a brilliant job with it. It's a cosy crime novel, nothing too graphic or gory, it's written with humour and the characters are people you'd love to come across in the real world. The plot itself kept me guessing right to the very end.

This gets a big thumbs up from me, I can't wait to read Richard Osman's next book, The Man Who Died Twice (The Thursday Murder Club Book 2) but I'm currently 63rd in the reservation queue at the library for that one so I doubt I'll be reading it any time soon!

  1. I enjoyed the plot, but reading it I felt it was more like a screen play, having said that with some of our wonderful British actor's, it should be a wonderful film. Just hope they don't spoil it with American actors using dodgy british accents.

  3. I just looked to see where I am in the library waiting list for his 2nd book......98th out of 578!!! They have 150 copies which is a lot considering there are only 40 or so libraries in Suffolk , so once the rush is over every library will have 3 copies sitting on the shelves!

  13. I have just borrowed this from a friend. Sadly our local library close years ago an now I would have to drive into our town centre. As a family we went to the library every week to choose books, the children had a special place where they kept them in their room. You are so lucky to have a library. x

  14. I actually bought the book which is unusual for me as I normally get books from the library. I quite enjoyed it and with the television interviews and other publicity the book became popular. I'll put the second in the series on my wish list.

  17. I love a good murder mystery and your rave review has prompted me to add this to my library. I do take a long time to get through a book though, often longer than the couple of weeks that the library give us, so I'm usually left to "wait" in the que a couple of times before I get through it. Having a few books on the go, though makes that ok. I've just put this book on hold and surprisingly, I'm only the 2nd one in the que here, so I'll be diving into it soon :)
