A Flower A Day

Eleanor's done a bit of cross stitching in the past but it's not really a hobby that's gripped her. Since I've been cross stitching myself however, she fancies giving it another go. I'm always pleased when she wants to do something creative, she enjoyed all the art type subjects at school but hasn't taken up any hobbies in this direction so I'm only too pleased to encourage her when she wants to give something a go.

I'd been looking at Carolyn Manning Designs website, she has some lovely cross stitch patterns, especially the Flower A Day Collection. There's projects all across the colour spectrum and when I showed Eleanor, she picked out the pattern with yellow flowers framed with a floral border. These patterns are supposed to encourage a bit of stitching every day.

She's been a bit fed up of late, it's ten weeks now since she's seen her boyfriend due to the lockdown so I wanted to cheer her up a bit. I've treated her to the fabric, floss, hoop, bobbins and scissors, so she's all ready to go. There is something in it for me too, it'll be fun having a stitching buddy to share a hobby with.

  1. I always loved stitching and knitting with my eldest daughter, passing on tips and sharing ideas, she inspired me to do more crochet, my youngest daughter is not interested in craft at all. Love the colours in the kit, very spring like

  2. How lovely, I'll have to have a look at her website. I wish I could persuade my daughter to do something similar, she has tried crochet and likes it but says she's just not in the mood, her husband has been stuck abroad since the beginning of the outbreak so she's really fed up. I'll mention cross stitch to her and see if I can stir up any interest. I hope Eleanor enjoys her sewing. xx

  3. That's lovely. It'll be nice for both of you to have a shared interest. I tried to teach my daughter to knit but she never got the hang of it and neither of us can sew or have ever tried cross stitch. Poor girl not seeing her boyfriend for so long, I've not been able to see my daughter either.

  4. My daughter likes Scrapbooking and I've given her several books and scrapbooking doodads ( papers, card, ribbons, lace, buttons ect ) I love that cross stitch, almost like little tiles. They say distance makes the heart grow fonder. Take care. Best, Jane x

  6. How thoughtful of you Jo. What a wonderful cross stitch pattern it is really lovely. I hope she enjoys working on it, I am sorry to hear that she is fed up, it is so hard when we cant see the people we care so much for isn't it.

  7. How nice that you have a stitching buddy! My daughter has no interest what so ever in any of the crafts I do but we do share a love for reading, thank goodness.

  8. That's a pretty design. I hope Eleanor enjoys stitching a flower a day. A shared interest will be something to talk about and share progress. It's not easy when we're not with our loved ones. I can understand why Eleanor feels fed up about her situation.

  11. That sounds good Jo & hope she enjoys it. I'm lucky to have a very creative daughter & we've enjoyed a lot together & we miss being closer. I may try & get her to send a couple of photos of what she's been doing as time has allowed in these strange times & I'll pop them on a post. Take care, stay safe & huggles.

  12. This is a lovely idea that she can do little each day and you have a stitching friend. Thee patterns are new to me so I will have look online at them, not that I have any need for new patterns at all.

  14. It's always more fun to do things together. I don't think I've ever tried cross stitching... Maybe once when I was a kid.

  17. Love the design Eleanor chose, that will keep her busy for a while. I can understand how she must be missing her boyfriend, it must be harder on for younger people.
You will be able to cheer each other on though with your stitching :-)

  19. It's a lovely pattern. I like the idea of stitching a little bit every day. I want to try embroidery and think learning a new stitch a day at a time would be a nice way to do it.
It must be so hard not to be able to see a boyfriend or girlfriend at this time, video calls and messaging is all very well but it's not the same as seeing someone in person. I hope they can see each other again soon.
    Take care
    xx
