I had loads of Christmas themed books lined up to read last year and then disaster struck, as well as being poorly myself for most of December, my dad was taken into hospital and was seriously ill. Luckily, he made a good recovery, though it hadn't been expected. It's no surprise then that I didn't get half the books read that I thought I would. I decided that instead of reading them into January, I'd hold onto them ready for this year.
There's more Christmas themed books waiting for me on my Kindle as well as these four paperbacks so I've decided to start early this year and begin reading them in November. I just hope that all goes to plan this year.
Nothing like getting in the Christmas spirit early.
My christmas books seem to be all crime fiction...no idea what that says about me!
ReplyDeleteI read Hercule Poirot's Christmas last December but no murder mysteries planned this year, so far.
DeleteWow, you lucky thing, nothing better than a good book. I counted and I have read 55 books this year.
ReplyDeleteMy tally is nowhere near 55 this year, my reading seems to have slowed down just lately for some reason.
DeleteOoh no - you mentioned the dreaded word. I actually received a card yesterday too but there were exceptional circumstances.
ReplyDeleteChristmas seemed to pass me by last year even though I always look forward to it so I'm taking no chances this year, I shall get into the Christmas spirit early. A card in October? I've never had one that early before.
DeleteIt was from my friend who lives in S Africa. We can’t seem to send cards to and from there due to a poor post service, She’s in Portugal at the moment so sent cards from there so she’s forgiven.
DeleteAt least she's found a solution this year.
DeleteI was just wondering the other day if it was too early to start listening to Christmas CDs. If you only listen to them - or read Christmas books - in December, it doesn't give much time, does it? That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! LOL
ReplyDeleteI learnt my lesson last year, don't leave everything until December. My celebrations shall begin early this year and my reading will put me in the mood.
DeleteI have a couple on my shelves and was wondering when I should start reading them. Maybe later this week.
ReplyDeleteI loved the 12 Days of Christmas you gave me last year. It really helped keep that Christmas feeling alive tucking to a festive book in the evenings.

I think reading Christmas books early will put me in the Christmas spirit and then I'll be truly ready for the big day when it comes around. I've got so many Christmas themed books ready to read that I think I'll be reading them into January.
DeleteI usually get a couple of themed novels to read over Christmas. Happy reading. xx
ReplyDeleteIt's only these last couple of years that I've read themed books at Christmas but I've found it's fun to be reading something festive. I'm certainly not short of themed books for this year.
DeleteI have The Great Christmas Knit Off on my self for a December read and also a Debbie Macomber one whose title escapes me at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThe Great Christmas Knit Off is a book I enclosed in a swap parcel last year and the recipient read it and kindly sent it back for me to read too. I must say that I'm looking forward to that one.
DeleteI am starting my Christmas reading on Friday when I leave to visit the family. The music started early as I had some on to wrap the gifts.
ReplyDeleteListening to Christmas music whilst wrapping certainly makes it feel like the season's upon us. I'm looking forward to starting my reading early, it'll definitely put me in the mood.
DeleteI'm not even contemplating Xmas reading this year, what with a very full calendar for November and nephew & partner visiting from UK for the end of December & into January, I'm feeling quite stressed already. I am reading a book by Anne Bennett at the moment & am really enjoying. Happy reading & take care.
ReplyDeleteI find reading a good stress buster, it's nice to get transported into a story and forget about what's going on in my own life for a while at these times.
DeleteGreat selection of books Jo. I watched my first Christmas movie the other miserable afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that the Christmas channel is back on Sky already, there's some lovely Christmas movies.
DeleteI think I'll get a couple of Christmas books myself once I've finished the one I'm reading. X
ReplyDeleteReading Christmas themed books over the festive period is quite a new thing to me but it's something I've found I really enjoy.
DeleteYou'll certainly be in the mood by the time you finish those!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I will. That's the plan anyway.
DeleteI don't think I have ever read a Christmas themed book, we were given one as our reading group book last year but i didn't get around to reading mine. I have noticed that the Christmas films are starting on TV, I must confess i do like watching those :-)
ReplyDeleteI started reading Christmas themed books during the festive season a couple of years ago and I really enjoyed it. I'd got loads of books lined up last year but what with being ill and my dad being in hospital, I think I read just three of them. I'm going all out this year, starting early and really getting in the spirit of Christmas. There's lots of Christmas films I enjoy but my favourite has to be National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, I've seen it so many times but it still makes me howl.
DeleteGetting into the Christmas spirit early - I do enjoy extending the season! I see a knitting read in there - I've read a bit of knitting fiction in the past couple of years so I'll be especially interested to hear about that one.
ReplyDeleteI love celebrating Christmas over a long period, I know people who think it's a day or two, but not me. I'm looking forward to reading the knitting book, in fact, that may be the first one I pick up.
DeleteFunny you should post about Christmas Books ... in a local charity shop recently I saw a book by Emma Hannigan called 'The Heart of Winter' - it's about a Christmas wedding, should make good reading.
ReplyDeleteI've got it earmarked for a December read!
All the best Jan
That sounds a lovely book to read in December, I hope you enjoy it.
DeleteThey look like a bunch of good reads. Goodness, I hadn't thought about Christmas, I may take it all easy this year!xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm ready to start the first one when I go to bed tonight. I think you should put your feet up this year and let everyone else do Christmas for you.
