I've knit Hermione's Everyday Socks by Erica Lueder a couple of times, I really enjoy working the pattern and I like how it knits up, so when Helen from Giddy Knits podcast mentioned that she was knitting a pair of Neville's Socks, another pattern by Erica Lueder, I decided I'd quite like to give that pattern a try too. Both patterns are available on Ravelry and they're both free to download.
Inspired by another Harry Potter character, Neville Longbottom, the pattern is another easy one which gives a textured result. I chose some Wharfdale Woolworks Bluefaced Leicester yarn from my stash to knit the socks in but in hindsight, I believe it's another pattern which would show up better in a plain colour.
These socks are for me, for a change. I lived in hand knit socks last winter and to be honest, I haven't given them the care they deserve, throwing them in the washing machine rather than hand washing them, and many of them are not very thankful for it. Some are on their way to being felted whilst others have shrunk a little in size, so I'm on a mission to fill my sock drawer with some new pairs before next winter comes round again.
I notice that Erica Lueder has lots more patterns on Ravelry and as I've enjoyed both of the patterns of hers that I've tried so far, I might give another one a go.
Love the colour of the yarn and the pattern looks interesting. I like how they link these patterns to HP :-)
ReplyDeleteI have taken the plunge and started my first sock, just got to the heel part, hopefully I can manage to get past that and finish it :-)
This yarn is a similar colourway to the Sockalong Socks which I knit but there's more purple in this one. Great news that you've started your socks, it's all plain sailing once you get past the heel.
DeleteThe socks look lovely, Jo. They'll definitely keep your tootsies warm in the winter! :o)
ReplyDeleteThey certainly will. I've used this yarn before and it's lovely and warm.
DeleteLooking good, I have the pattern but haven't got around to it yet. I have just cast on the Dittany socks but will have to go to Ravelry to check out Erica's other patterns.
ReplyDeleteThere's just so many great patterns out there, we'll never get round them all. I haven't heard of the Dittany socks but I've just looked up the pattern and I think they're lovely.
DeleteI bet that pattern will trap some much needed warmth over the winter months for your little tootsies. They look great. Will have to check out this lady, thanks for the details. X
ReplyDeleteErica Lueder has some lovely patterns, I've certainly enjoyed knitting the two I've chosen so far and I can see more of her patterns in my future.
DeleteSo lovely and such a fabulous colour. I should start knitting some more socks. Hand knitted socks in the winter months are such a treat for the toes. X
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to stock up my sock drawer over the summer months ready for winter, I don't want to be short once the cold weather comes round again.
DeleteThat looks like another winning pattern - I'll have to add it to my queue. I need to put a couple of smaller projects on my needles such as socks. I've been working on two larger projects (blanket and sweater) - which are taking forever - and I'm needing a dose of accomplishment from a smaller knit.
ReplyDeleteThat's the thing I love about smaller projects, they're finished so quickly so you can start on something new again and keep the interest going.
DeleteI love these socks! The way the colors pool make it look like there's a bolt of lightning on the left-hand sock. :)
ReplyDeleteI can see what you mean. The yellow on the other sock is round the other side which isn't shown and that looks like a bolt of lightening too.
DeleteThey look great! Glad I could inspire you to knit them. X
ReplyDeleteMe too. I'm really pleased with them. I'm definitely going to give more of Erica Lueder's patterns a go, I think she's a great designer.
DeleteLovely socks I think they look great, I always start by giving my new hand knit socks the special treatment gentle hand wash, rinse in fabric conditioner but it soon goes by the wayside, we are silly really after all the hard work we put into making them we should really look after them too. Have a great weekend. :) x
ReplyDeleteI agree, we should look after our hand knits better. I'm starting as I mean to go on with my new batch, I'll see how long I can keep that up.
DeleteThat looks like quite a tricky pattern... it's very effective though. I'm sure that you'll love snuggling up in these next winter! Jx
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a very easy pattern, a good one for a beginner as it's made up of just knit and purl stitches, but it does give an interesting pattern.
DeleteI am just like you, I don't give my knitted socks the care they deserve! Love the vibrancy of your new pair. x
ReplyDeleteI must start and look after my knitted socks better, they deserve better treatment after the work that goes into them.
DeleteSuch lovely colours in the yarn Jo.
ReplyDeleteGood wishes for the coming weekend, I'm hoping for some sunshine!
All the best Jan
I've used a similar colourway previously but this one's got more purple in it and I do prefer it. No sunshine here today, in fact, Mick's cricket match has just been cancelled.
DeleteTHose are wonderful, glad you are keeping them for yourself. Good luck on filling your drawer with beautiful socks.
ReplyDeleteI give so many of my socks away so it feels good to have a pair for myself for a change, I do need to restock my sock drawer before winter comes round again.
DeleteGorgeous yarn and lovely, neat knitting, Jo!
ReplyDeleteMargaret P
I'm very pleased how they've turned out, and they're all mine for a change.
DeleteGood luck with building up your winter stash. I like the bobbly pattern.
ReplyDeleteLisa x
I should have really used a plain yarn to show the pattern off properly but I do like the socks, just another few pairs to go now to fill up the sock drawer.
DeleteWhat lovely coloured yarn!xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased how it's worked up, you're never quite sure what it will look like knitted when you see it in a skein.
