Nurmilintu

Nurmilintu comes from an old Finnish lulaby: Nuku, nuku, nurmilintu: Sleep, sleep, little bird. It's the name which has been given to this shawl by Heidi Alander, a free pattern on Ravelry.

After knitting the No-Fuss Shade-Loving Shawl for my mum, I decided I wanted to knit another shawl but in a finer yarn and with a little lace patterning in it. I thought this would fit the bill nicely. It's knit mainly in garter stitch but each block is split with a stripe of lace pattern and rather than the traditional triangular shawl, it's started at it's narrowest point at one end and increases gradually to the widest point where it ends with a picot bind off. Nothing too demanding here which is just as I like it.

It's knit using Drops Alpaca yarn in colourway 7240 - Petrol Mix and it's so soft and cosy, just the thing to wrap around your neck now the cold weather has arrived. I haven't used Drops Alpaca before but I've got more in my stash which I'm very pleased about as it's knit up beautifully.

The picot edge just finishes it off perfectly.

I'm really happy with how it's turned out and I can see me using this pattern again in the future.

    1. I love the colour but no, it's not for me, it's one of the very few gifts I've made this year. I think I'll have to make something for myself in this same colourway.

    1. I'm not a brilliant knitter by any stretch of the imagination but I manage to get by. It's a gorgeous colour and I've been really impressed with the yarn, it's the first time I've used Drops Alpaca and it's lovely to knit with, very soft and cosy.

    1. I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. It really wasn't very difficult at all but it's got the look of something a little more challenging than it was. Thank you for adding your blog address, I know you mentioned that you'd started a blog in one of your previous comments but I couldn't find it anywhere.

    2. My computer man set up my blog for me, Jo, and I asked for it to be called Devon Dreaming, but he somehow put my name down for the blog, so it's www.margaretpowling.com
I'm enjoying blogging - it's really just an extension of my writing, and I want to make my blog more like the kind of magazine I'd like to read with all kinds of diverse posts, but on things that interest me and, hopefully, will interest possible readers.

  17. This is such a lovely shawl you have knitted. I just downloaded the same pattern last week and have some yarn waiting for it. I'm so bad at reading charts that I wrote out the lace pattern. Thank you for sharing this beautiful creation. Pat xx

    1. I must admit that I prefer to follow written instructions rather than a chart, but I persevered with this one. I shall look forward to seeing your version of the same pattern, they can look so different depending on the different yarn and colours used.
