My lovely friend, Susan, from Granny Smith's Quilting blog lives in Australia but I was lucky enough to meet her a couple of years ago when she came over for a holiday. She's very sneaky though, I had no idea that she'd made plans to visit again this year until I got a phone call out of the blue one day telling me she was here.
We made loose arrangements to meet before she returned to Australia but it wasn't to be, we just couldn't find a time when we were both free. We had a chance meeting at Bolton Abbey one day in early September but that was it.
It was my birthday while Susan was over here and she'd brought with her, all the way from Australia, a gift for me, how lucky am I? Here it is, a most beautiful quilted bed runner.
I'm not going to use it on the bed though, I think it's perfect to drape over the back of the sofa, that way it can be shown off as it deserves. Just look at all the beautiful fabric which has been used.
Even the back is lovely.
This close up shows the flowery quilting stitch. Sorry if that's not the right term, I'm not a quilter myself.
Thank you so much Susan, I'm absolutely thrilled with it and I shall treasure it always.
What a beautiful gift, love the fabric choices a real delight. Such a shame you weren't able to catch up for longer but life just takes over.
ReplyDeleteI'm absolutely thrilled with it. Susan has so many people to visit whilst she's over here that we just didn't get chance to meet up properly this time, which is a shame.
DeleteThe quilt is beautiful, Jo. :o)
ReplyDeleteI love it, such a wonderful gift.
DeleteWhat a super present, I agree absolutely needs showing off. Such a shame you couldn´t arrange to meet up, maybe next time xcx
ReplyDeleteI want to keep it where it can be seen and admired. It is a shame that we didn't get to meet up properly, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she has another holiday over here soon.
DeleteSo pretty, it will look good on your couch.
ReplyDeleteIt will. I'd rather have it where it's on show rather than shut away upstairs.
Deletewhat a wonderful gift.So much time and love have gone into it.Certainly something to treasure.Barbara
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is. I love handmade gifts, especially when you know the effort that's been put in to it, definitely something to treasure.
DeleteOh, that is so beautiful and even more so because it was handmade just for you...you can practically feel the love! I've always wanted to try quilting, but with everything else on my plate it will likely be a while before I give it a go.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's very special when something's handmade especially for you. I'm not a sewer but I'd love to be able to quilt.
DeleteLucky you, it's a wonderful gift. Shame that you only got to meet up briefly this time. Flighty xx
ReplyDeleteIt's a fabulous gift. I would have loved to have met up properly again but it wasn't to be, I'll have to wait until next time.
DeleteLucky lady to have such a thoughtful, beautiful gift. She obviously thinks a lot of your friendship. I love the colours and it does deserve pride of place on a sofa for all to share.
ReplyDeleteI know, I'm so lucky, I've made such wonderful friendships through the world of blogging. It will definitely have pride of place for all to see.
DeleteLucky, lucky you, love the design and the colours.
ReplyDeleteIt's really beautiful. I love the fabric choices, so pretty.
DeleteSuch a beautiful thoughtful gift from a lovely friend, I'm sure you'll always treasure it.
ReplyDeleteI certainly will. It's something I'll always treasure.
DeleteThat stitching on the back really is the icing on the cake. What a gorgeous gift to receive. I'm sure you will enjoy using it and having it in your home.

It's a lovely stitch that it's been quilted with, it follows the flower theme through. I'm so lucky to have one of Susan's lovely quilts.
DeleteYou deserve this lovely present, it is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty, all the lovely flower fabric. It's something I'll treasure.
DeleteI'm embarrassed and so wished we'd been able to meet up properly, though it was great seeing you at Bolton Abbey. Hope you are having better weather than us, though it is sort of fine today, but you'd think it was still the middle of winter. It's 11 deg now at 11am and we've had lashings of rain this month so far. Not much like half way through Spring really & even snow in the alps and Tasmania. Weird. Still have the big quilt on our bed & also snuggling under crochet rugs whilst watching TV,(trying not to use the heating). Thanks again for your friendship and lovely post about the quilt. Take care.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. I wish we'd been able to meet up too but at least we did see each other at Bolton Abbey. Our weather is a little mixed at the moment, though it's started off fine today. We had our first frost a couple of weeks ago, I'm not looking forward to winter one bit. Thank you again for the beautiful quilt, I'm thrilled with it.
DeleteWhat a wonderful gift, it is lovely. She must be a very thoughtful lady.
ReplyDeleteShe certainly is. It's such a lovely quilt, and to think it was hand made especially for me, I'm very lucky.
DeleteWhat a beautiful gift, i'm sure it will be treasured.
ReplyDeleteWhat a thoughtful lady to bring it all this way too.
It will. I know, I'm honoured that she's spent so much time making something so special for me.
DeleteWow, that's really beautiful! What a lovely friend.
ReplyDeleteIt is, I was stunned when I saw it, I never expected to receive such a beautiful gift.
DeleteWhat a lucky friend you are! I saw Granny Smith's post about being over here, she certainly fits a load in!
ReplyDeleteIt was a shame we couldn't meet up properly but you're right, she's always so busy when she's over here visiting lots of family and friends.
DeleteWhat a wonderful gift! All the way from Australia too :)
ReplyDeleteI think the fact that Susan brought it half way around the world especially for me makes it all the more special.
