Joyful World - September

There hasn't been much work done on the Joyful World Stitch Along since my last update in August, life around here is busy at the moment but I expect that to calm down once next week is over and we're back to living as a couple for the first time in twenty one years. Things here are going to be very different and perhaps I'll find more time to work on crafting more, maybe I'll whizz though the projects I've got on the go then.

As you can see, all I've managed to get done this month is finishing off the stork and a few flower stems on the March design. There's lots of flowers and bits of stitching on this pattern, I think all the needle threading when changing colours is going to be quite time consuming.

I'm also picking my knitting up when I get the chance, though the crochet hook is staying tucked away. I'm sure that will change once the cooler weather arrives.

  1. I have not picked mine up in ages, but this time of year I spend in my garden, yours is looking good.

    1. I thought I might get more done over summer but it hasn't worked out that way. I don't mind though, it will get done when it gets done. You may not have picked yours up in ages but you're still further on than I am.

    1. You'll have a lot more time now that you're retired, that is until you fill it up with other things.

  3. Seems like something is going around. I told my husband the other day, I didn't feel like I'm getting much done anymore. However, then I look at the RAKs.....guess I'm more productive than it seems. It will come back - just give things time to settle.

    1. You're definitely more productive than you imagine, you just have to look at all the lovely things you show on your blog to realise that, and all those lovely RAKs too.

  4. It takes a little time to get used to but before you know it you'll enjoy the peace and quiet and start planning things as a couple once again. Take pride in been great parents letting them go....

    1. That's exactly how I'm thinking of it, I'd hate to think that either of my kids had stayed at home because they didn't have the confidence to spread their wings. This is exactly what we wanted for them, to be able to choose their own way in life and grab all the opportunities which come their way. It's an exciting time.

    2. So many hobbies, sometimes it's hard to fit them all in. Your stitch along will be wonderful when it's finished xx

    3. If only we had more hours in the day, still, I'm sure we'd still be saying the same thing. I think it's going to be a wonderful piece when it's all finished.

  5. You just have to be in the mood, after all it's something to do because you enjoy it, not a chore. I love the elegance of the stork.

    1. I'm still in the mood, it's just finding the time with things being so hectic at the moment. I'm sure it will all calm down in a week or so.

  6. You're making progress and that's what matters. I love each part as you share it. I'm about to begin a new sampler myself soon, meant to be a Christmas present for my daughter. I'm planning to work on it while she's at school during the day - you know, in between all the other things I try to get done while they're out of the house. :)

    1. I'm just trying to do bits here and there when I find time. I wish I'd been in to crafting more when my children were small, it would have been nice to make things for them that they could keep like you're doing with your daughter, I'll just have to make up for it now.

    1. I definitely will, I'm looking forward to having a little more time to work on my projects. I love the design, I love it more each month as a new part is released.

  8. It's looking good Jo. You wont know what to do with all your spare time once your daughter has left home.

    1. I'm sure I'll find plenty to occupy my time. I had people questioning me when I stopped working asking if I'd be bored all day at home but I don't have time to be bored, there's so much that I want to do.

  9. It's lovely, Jo. Winter (sorry to say the word) will be here before we know it and you'll accomplish a lot more then. P. x

    1. I'm a summer girl and hate the thought of winter but one thing I do like to do is hunker down with a craft project, that's definitely something to look forward to.

  10. Every little bit counts towards the finish! The lace scarf I'm working on is going ever so slowly as well. I usually have a few tv-watching projects on the go as well as one or two more complicated ones that I do before bed, the scarf falling under the latter category. Only problem is that now with the early start to the day to get the kids off to school, I'm usually too tired by that time to even do one row. I'm sure that will change once I get used to it again - it takes a bit of time to adjust from all the sleeping in over the summer :)

    1. That's what I think, I keep picking it up in odd minutes but I don't get very far with it but it's still another bit done. I know what you mean about being too tired, sometimes I like to just sit and do nothing to wind down a bit, doing something more complicated takes too much effort.

  11. Joyful World is coming on nicely even if you're only able to do a little at a time. I think having a new design released for every month that you know you'll do eventually adds to the enjoyment of working towards the finished project.

    1. You're right, it keeps you interested in the project too. I'm stitching along thinking of all the other lovely months I've yet to embark on.

    1. Thank you. I'm very new to cross stitch but I'm happy with how I'm progressing.

  14. It's looking good Jo. A little progress is better than none at all. When I used to do cross stitch with lots of colour changes, I threaded each colour on a different needle before I started so I could pick up and put them down easily. xx

    1. Each little bit I add is building up the picture. That's a really good tip, I remember someone else suggesting it previously but I'd forgotten all about it.

  16. Lovely stitching, and you will probably find more time to stitch in the Autumn and Winter. With all the colour changes sometimes i find it easier to thread several needles with the various colours at the beginning of a stitching session, that way you don't have to keep stopping and starting to hunt out the right colour and thread needles.
This will look great once it's all done :-)

    1. The only problem with stitching during the winter months is the light, or lack of it. I've got a small lamp which I use but I still find it much easier in daylight. I'm definitely going to thread up various colours on different needles before starting a stitching session, it's a great tip.
