I Can See Clearly Now

I've got my new glasses at last. I was due an eye test about a year ago but I've been putting it off and putting it off but I finally made an appointment and what a difference these new glasses make.

I've been wearing glasses just for reading and for close work but it was decided that I should really wear some distance glasses for driving too. At Specsavers, you get two pairs for the price of one, which is really handy for reading glasses as I leave a pair by my bed where I do the majority of my reading and I carry the other pair around with me. I chose a black pair and a pink pair in the same design. Instead of getting two pairs of distance glasses, which I won't use all that much as they're only for driving, I opted to get anti glare lenses, which are recommended for driving, at no extra cost. I liked the design I'd chosen for my reading glasses so much that I chose the same ones in black for my distance ones.

I'd just better make sure that I don't get them mixed up.

  1. You got them quickly. I wear contact lens most of the time with a pair of readers to help out. I wear my regular glasses at night.

    1. They were ready very quickly, I was impressed by the service. I don't fancy contact lenses, it makes me cringe thinking about putting them in my eyes, I'll stick to glasses.

    2. Lovely frames! I have a very light pair (weight-wise, I mean) for distance (I wear them for driving and for watching TV) but I made the mistake of having brown, tortoisehell style frames for my reading glasses and when I put them down on the dark kitchen work tops or on dark polished furniture I often can't see where I've left them! I will have a totally different colour next time if only so that I can spot them at a distance!

    3. I remember by mum having hers on a chain around her neck at one time so that she didn't forget where she'd put them.

    1. The optician mentioned bifocals but I don't need to wear my distance glasses for anything other than driving so I thought it better to stick to what I've got for now.

    1. I really liked them. I wish they did them in a third colour so that I could have had one of each.

  4. I have gone onto wearing glasses all the time now, I was a little upset at first but now I find it strange not to be wearing them. Love the style you have chosen.

    1. I could see how much my sight had deteriorated since the last time I had it checked so I knew I'd need some stronger reading glasses and some distance ones too. It's a sign of getting old and I don't care for it one bit.

  5. ¨I can see all obstacles in my way¨ lol Its amazing how we put these things off but then wonder why when it can make such a difference. Great offer for two pairs, I have a slight magnification on my close work glasses for use with the beading and miniatures. xcx

    1. I knew I needed stronger glasses, it's just getting round to making that appointment. I'm glad I'm sorted again for the time being, it's the dentist next, appointment in a fortnight.

  6. Very nice choices - I've only recently started to wear reading glasses and the need for them seemed to sneak up on me or so it seems. Now I find it difficult to read without them.

    1. I was the same. I think once I hit forty everything started going downhill, including my eyesight. I definitely can't do without my reading glasses now, it's quite scary how quickly my eyesight has deteriorated.

  9. They look great Jo and a good idea to get them in the two different colours, you shouldn't get them mixed up!

Dentist appointment next you say ...
That reminds me I need to make an appointment too.

Enjoy your week, enjoy your new glasses too!

    All the best Jan

    1. I'd have preferred three different colours, a change is as good as a rest as they say. It's not long until my dentist appointment but I don't seem to have much trouble with my teeth, I hope I can still say that after this next visit.

  10. I need new glasses too. I know my prescription hasn't changed but its finding the time to try dome glasses on that's difficult.

  12. When I changed to vari foals after just reading glasses my OH aged ten years.I could see all his wrinkles!!!!!Strangely I have ,a few weeks ago, chosen the same two frames as youI am finding them a bit heavy and wished I had paid a bit more for lighter frames. We live and learn.

    1. Ha ha, I bet your OH had been quite pleased you hadn't got varifocals before. I don't find these frames heavy at all, I suppose it's all down to what you're used to.

  13. Good for you, finally getting your eyes checked and hope they both make a lot of difference. If you only need the distance ones for driving, maybe keep them in the car. I've worn glasses since I was 17 for reading, but have bifocals these days and they still sometimes annoy me, but if I want to see, it's a must. Have a good week and take care.

  14. They are attractive frames Jo. I've had to wear two sets of specs for years. I always have to remember to take my reading glasses off to see people when they are talking to me :) A timely post as my eyesight test is overdue so thanks for jogging my memory.

    1. I tend to wear my reading glasses half way down my nose so that I can peer over them when someone talks to me. These eye tests seem to come around so quickly and it's easy to keep putting them off.

    1. It was a free eye test voucher which came through the door which prompted me to finally make the appointment. It's amazing what saving £15 can do.

    1. No rain here today, it's lovely and sunny and I've got a line full of washing, making the most of it while it's fine. Perhaps not, I suppose there's some terms and conditions to the offer.

    1. I think eye tests are one of those things which don't seem so urgent but it's amazing how much clearer everything is once you've got the right prescription. I think I've realised how important my glasses are since I started doing cross stitch.

  18. Good for you, Jo. I'm sure you'll find your vision improved and it will be easier to do things you enjoy. I have an eye appointment in June and I really hope they recommend a weak prescription for reading and handiwork. I really feel like I need them but the eye doctor keeps saying no!

    1. Everything's so much clearer now I've got my new glasses. I would advise holding on for glasses for as long as you can, my eyes have really deteriorated since I started wearing them as they get used to the prescription you're given and then you end up requiring something stronger.

  19. Glad you got your glasses sorted, I got my new ones a few months ago now...mind you I have to wear mine all the time and also have contacts. I suggest you keep your distance glasses in the car...that way you won't get them mixed up!!

    1. I leave my black pair of reading glasses by my bed so that I can tell the difference between the other two. It would have been easier if there were three colours in the design rather than two.

  20. They look great. I am sure they are different enough that you won't get them mixed up! I am in varifocals here too, onto my second pair so much have had them at least three years now. I still don't really get how you can be long and short sighted at the same time!

    1. I think it's just general wear and tear of the eyes, isn't it. I'm finding that more things are going the older I get, it's no fun getting old.

    1. I think I'll definitely be in trouble if I try to use the wrong glasses for driving. My dad's just gone over to varifocals, he's getting on with them really well.
