Booked At Last

We've left it quite late this year to book our holiday but it's been a bit of an ordeal working out which dates we're free. What with Eleanor's A levels, Daniel's graduation, Eleanor's 18th birthday, Daniel moving out of his student digs, Mick's 50th birthday and A level results day, we managed to find one fortnight in which we were free.

Constantine Bay
We always used to go abroad on holiday but we haven't ventured further than England now since 2009. Out of the last seven years, we've been to Cornwall five times. One of the years we didn't go was last year and though North Yorkshire and Northumberland were very nice, we did miss it.

'A' Frame Lodge
This will be the fifth year we've stayed at this particular place. There's only ten lodges and two cottages on the site, but lots of things to do - an indoor swimming pool, tennis court, games room, not to mention the four fishing lakes which Mick and Eleanor will make good use of. It's situated in a small village about five miles from Bude and is the perfect place for peace and relaxation, it's so quiet there. It's got a great reputation, many holidaymakers are like us and have visited many times before, so it means that you have to book early but we were in luck, there was just one lodge left for one of the weeks we wanted to stay so we snapped it up.

Bude
We love this area of Cornwall, we've got to know some places quite well now and still tend to head for them when we visit but there's always new places to explore too.

Padstow
I'm really pleased that Eleanor still wants to come away with us again this year, I know lots of young people tend to head off with their friends when they're nearly eighteen but she's still happy to come away with us. She's such good company that I love having her around. Of course, Archie will be coming along too.

Hartland Quay
The one good thing about booking quite late is that we don't have too long to wait until we go, which is just as well because I'm excited already. Can you tell?

  1. I'll miss going to Cornwall this year. I just love Cornwall and would happily move if there were any employment prospects for our kind of jobs. It is lovely that Eleanor is still coming with you. She sounds like a lovely young woman. I'll be taking the kids to Switzerland to catch up with family and then, the older ones are off to Iceland with Scouts, for a whole two weeks.

    1. I'd never been to Cornwall until our holiday in 2009, I love going back there now. Thank you for what you say about Eleanor, we've certainly had our clashes as she's grown up what with raging hormones, but she's come through all that now and I know I'm biased but she really is a lovely girl. I've only been to Switzerland once and that was only for a couple of days, it was to attend a gala dinner with work. We stayed in Montreux in a hotel overlooking Lake Geneva. I didn't get to see much of the country but I liked what I did see. Iceland sounds exciting, I'm sure they'll have a wonderful adventure.

    1. Hartland Quay isn't that far from where we stay and it's a lovely place for a ride out. I believe the shipwreck museum is there though we haven't visited it, we visited one in Charlestown on the south coast.

  5. We have not even booked a date as yet, but I prefer to holiday in September, last year we did a last minute deal, so we will look again in a couple of months

    1. I'm so pleased that it wasn't fully booked by the time we'd sorted out when we could go. Eleanor's pleased to be coming on holiday with us still, though it doesn't stop her doing things with her friends too. I'm glad that she's able to balance things out.

  17. Oh...how lovely it looks, so glad you managed to book at such short notice. I feel the same about the Lakes and we're heading back there with the dogs in a week or so, we always stay in the same cottage and I think I could stay there every year throughout my life and never get bored of the place. Gosh, it must have been hard trying to find a few weeks with all those major events coming up. xxx

    1. I've never been to the Lakes but it's somewhere that's on my list. I've heard so many great things about the area so hopefully, we'll make it there soon. We've got so many things going on this year that there's only two weeks in the whole summer that we've got nothing on, but even then, Eleanor is having to miss her prom. She doesn't mind too much though as she went to her Year 11 one and lots of her friends are missing this one too.

You've certainly got a lot of 'big dates' to celebrate this year ...

Now do you need a quick trip around the shops to get any last minute holiday clothes?

    All the best Jan

I hate clothes shopping but I will need to pick up a few bits to complete my summer wardrobe before we go, I just hope we have some nice weather so that I get to wear them.
