We've left it quite late this year to book our holiday but it's been a bit of an ordeal working out which dates we're free. What with Eleanor's A levels, Daniel's graduation, Eleanor's 18th birthday, Daniel moving out of his student digs, Mick's 50th birthday and A level results day, we managed to find one fortnight in which we were free.

We always used to go abroad on holiday but we haven't ventured further than England now since 2009. Out of the last seven years, we've been to Cornwall five times. One of the years we didn't go was last year and though North Yorkshire and Northumberland were very nice, we did miss it.

'A' Frame Lodge |
This will be the fifth year we've stayed at this particular place. There's only ten lodges and two cottages on the site, but lots of things to do - an indoor swimming pool, tennis court, games room, not to mention the four fishing lakes which Mick and Eleanor will make good use of. It's situated in a small village about five miles from Bude and is the perfect place for peace and relaxation, it's so quiet there. It's got a great reputation, many holidaymakers are like us and have visited many times before, so it means that you have to book early but we were in luck, there was just one lodge left for one of the weeks we wanted to stay so we snapped it up.

Bude |
We love this area of Cornwall, we've got to know some places quite well now and still tend to head for them when we visit but there's always new places to explore too.

Padstow |
I'm really pleased that Eleanor still wants to come away with us again this year, I know lots of young people tend to head off with their friends when they're nearly eighteen but she's still happy to come away with us. She's such good company that I love having her around. Of course, Archie will be coming along too.

Hartland Quay |
The one good thing about booking quite late is that we don't have too long to wait until we go, which is just as well because I'm excited already. Can you tell?
I'll miss going to Cornwall this year. I just love Cornwall and would happily move if there were any employment prospects for our kind of jobs. It is lovely that Eleanor is still coming with you. She sounds like a lovely young woman. I'll be taking the kids to Switzerland to catch up with family and then, the older ones are off to Iceland with Scouts, for a whole two weeks.
ReplyDeleteI'd never been to Cornwall until our holiday in 2009, I love going back there now. Thank you for what you say about Eleanor, we've certainly had our clashes as she's grown up what with raging hormones, but she's come through all that now and I know I'm biased but she really is a lovely girl. I've only been to Switzerland once and that was only for a couple of days, it was to attend a gala dinner with work. We stayed in Montreux in a hotel overlooking Lake Geneva. I didn't get to see much of the country but I liked what I did see. Iceland sounds exciting, I'm sure they'll have a wonderful adventure.
DeleteIt will be lovely, you will be visiting many places not far from where I used to live, enjoy your family time x
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to it. What a lovely part of the country to have lived, we do have some wonderful places in the UK.
DeleteLove the wildness of Hartland Quay. is the shipwreck museum there or am I thinking of somewhere else?
ReplyDeleteHartland Quay isn't that far from where we stay and it's a lovely place for a ride out. I believe the shipwreck museum is there though we haven't visited it, we visited one in Charlestown on the south coast.
DeleteHave fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm sure we will.
DeleteExciting times, so good to have family holidays you are certainly blessed that they still want to come. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI know, I'm making the most of our holiday this year as it may be the last time we have one of them with us.
DeleteWe have not even booked a date as yet, but I prefer to holiday in September, last year we did a last minute deal, so we will look again in a couple of months
ReplyDeleteThere's no need to book until the last minute when there's only the two of you to consider. It will be the same for us before long.
DeleteLooks beautiful. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.
ReplyDeletexx
There's some really beautiful places in Cornwall, we love it there.
DeleteI'm so pleased you managed to get one of the lodges for the dates you could go, something to really look forward to, in amongst all the other things you've got to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteLisa x
We were lucky, it could have easily been booked up after we'd spent so long waiting to find out the dates we're free. We have got quite a packed year this year with lots of celebrations, lots to look forward to.
DeleteIt looks lovely, I'm glad you got a booking.
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased they had a lodge left, we'd have been sorely disappointed if they hadn't. Can't wait to go now.
DeleteOh, this looks so great - enjoy your holiday with your loved ones.
ReplyDeletexxx
We really love it there, we'll definitely have a great time.
DeleteIt's a lovely part of the world and so central for so many different places to visit. Oh I do hope we have a decent summer this year.
ReplyDeleteMe too. It's always so much nicer when the sun's shining, but especially so when you're on holiday.
DeleteIt sounds idyllic, Jo. Have a wonderful time! :o)
ReplyDeleteThank you, I'm sure we will. We love Cornwall but the place we stay makes the holiday all that more special.
DeleteIt all sounds wonderful, Jo! I don't know the areas you mentioned at all, but I think they will be perfect for your family and all your interests. I'm glad you were able to find a time when you can all go. You have so many important milestones coming up this summer!
ReplyDeleteThere's so many lovely places to visit in Cornwall that we're really spoilt for choice. The site where we stay is lovely to come back to at the end of the day, it's so tranquil there and there's lots of wildlife too. It's a busy year for us with so many celebrations.
DeleteI've envied you going to Cornwall for your annual holidays, but look forward to seeing lots of pics from what you see and do. Maybe in the future you can go abroad again. Do you know where I'm thinking of? Take care.
ReplyDeleteI'm really quite happy to stay in the UK these days, I hate flying and I'm no good with heat so it suit me fine, besides, there's so many places that I haven't seen in the UK yet. I think I can guess where you're thinking of, long haul?
DeleteWhen you find holiday accommodation that's perfect for your needs it's good to go back there. Glad you got a booking and now I'm sure you're looking forward to your time away in a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteWe really love this small and peaceful site. The owners are on hand if you need anything and are only too pleased to help with anything and it really is like getting away from all the hustle and bustle. I'm really looking forward to it now.
DeleteI know that you always enjoy it there, and I hope that you have good weather. Flighty xx
ReplyDeleteI think it's a place we'll return to many times. I'm praying for good weather, it really is the icing on the cake when the sun shines on holiday.
DeleteIt looks wonderful Jo, how lucky to get the last lodge for the weeks you have free. I do hope that my children still want to take a holiday with us when they are nearly eighteen. Have a wonderful time, I do hope the weather is good!
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased that it wasn't fully booked by the time we'd sorted out when we could go. Eleanor's pleased to be coming on holiday with us still, though it doesn't stop her doing things with her friends too. I'm glad that she's able to balance things out.
DeleteI hope you have a wonderful time!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I'm sure we will.
DeleteOh...how lovely it looks, so glad you managed to book at such short notice. I feel the same about the Lakes and we're heading back there with the dogs in a week or so, we always stay in the same cottage and I think I could stay there every year throughout my life and never get bored of the place. Gosh, it must have been hard trying to find a few weeks with all those major events coming up. xxx
ReplyDeleteI've never been to the Lakes but it's somewhere that's on my list. I've heard so many great things about the area so hopefully, we'll make it there soon. We've got so many things going on this year that there's only two weeks in the whole summer that we've got nothing on, but even then, Eleanor is having to miss her prom. She doesn't mind too much though as she went to her Year 11 one and lots of her friends are missing this one too.
DeleteIt looks lovely, I hope you have a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Only a few weeks until we go, we're all looking forward to it.
DeleteSo pleased you were able to get booked in ok. It is so nice to have a lovely holiday break to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteYou've certainly got a lot of 'big dates' to celebrate this year ...
Now do you need a quick trip around the shops to get any last minute holiday clothes?
All the best Jan
We've got a lot of things to look forward to this year but I'm especially looking forward to the holiday, I missed Cornwall last year. I hate clothes shopping but I will need to pick up a few bits to complete my summer wardrobe before we go, I just hope we have some nice weather so that I get to wear them.
DeleteI am so happy for you, rest and relaxation in that beautiful place sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
It's such a lovely place, I'm so looking forward to it.
DeleteHow lucky you were to get that lodge for the weeks you wanted, Jo. How nice that Eleanor wants to come with you too. xx
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad there was a lodge still available for the week we wanted. It will be lovely to have Eleanor with us, it may be her last time holidaying with us so I shall definitely make the most of her company.
DeleteHope that you have a great time Jo. How lovely that Eleanor still wants to go away with you and Mick. We're hoping to get to Cornwall sometime later this year. It's where we spent our first ever holiday together so lots of fond memories :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, I'm sure we will. What a wonderful place to take a first holiday together. Our first was Tenerife and it was a bit of a disaster, we've never been back since.
DeleteMy goodness all those dates, what a busy year for you all. So fortunate that you were able to book your holiday just where you wanted. We used to go to Bude for the day and always enjoyed it, fingers crossed for good weather. xcx
ReplyDeleteIt is, and we've already had my mum and dad's diamond wedding anniversary and Daniel's 21st birthday, it's a very busy year. We've always stayed on the north coast of Cornwall but we've visited a few placed on the south coast, I'm hoping that we can visit some new places this time.
DeleteI've got a week orr in June for my birthday, but I've yet to book anything yet!
ReplyDeleteMy brother often goes to Cornwall for his holiday.
You might get a good deal if you book late. I'm glad I didn't leave it any later though, we were lucky getting in as it was. Cornwall's such a lovely place, there's lots of people, like us, who return year after year.
