Today is my mum and dad's diamond wedding anniversary.
They tied the knot 60 years ago today, it was a cold February day with snow on the ground.
I love this photo of my mum showing off her ring to my grandma and two of my aunties.
They're not ones for big celebrations so it will be a quiet meal here this evening, but I got them some lovely flowers and some posh chocolates. I always order my flowers from my local greengrocer, he makes wonderful arrangements, this photo really doesn't do them justice, it's a huge bouquet. Included are roses, carnations, chrysanthemums, gerbera, lilies, alstroemeria, tulips, stocks, astrantia, gypsophila and a few which I don't know the names of.
I've arranged for them to receive a congratulatory card from The Queen so they'll be thrilled with that.
This is just the beginning of a year of celebrations here. It's Daniel's 21st birthday tomorrow and later in the year is his graduation, Eleanor's 18th birthday and Mick's 50th birthday. It's a busy year.
We've got that this year. My 50th next week. Eden was 18 a couple of weeks ago. Malc will be 60 in July. Clark will become a teenager in March. All a good excuse to get together though x I hope your Mum and Dad have a fabulous day and you all have a lovely time tonight x
ReplyDeleteI don't think we planned things very well having so many major events on top of each other but as you say, a good excuse for lots of get togethers. Thank you.
DeleteCongratulations to your parents, thanks for sharing thier lovely photos, it is an important year for your family. Xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's a big year for the family, so many major events happening all at once it seems.
DeleteMy it is a busy year for you! A big congratulations to your parents - such a huge milestone for them! We should all be so lucky. And beautiful pics - I love old photos and catching glimpses of life in the past.
ReplyDeleteThank you. As you say, even with the best marriages we're very lucky to reach 60 years. My mum gave me her wedding album recently, I think she's making sure that things like this are being passed on, so I'm lucky to have these wonderful photos, they're very precious to me.
DeleteCongratulations to your parents! It is lovely to see their happy wedding photographs. x
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm so pleased we've got these lovely photos, happy memories captured forever.
DeleteMany congratulations to them Jo, that's quite an achievement.

DeleteMany congratulations to your mum and dad, Jo. Here's to the next 60! :o)
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteWell done them! Very precious photos too, I'm sure. Jane and I have been married for 38 years. I wonder if we'll make it to 60.....?
ReplyDeleteThey are precious photos, it's lovely to have these mementos of the day. I think we all aspire to reach a diamond celebration, Mick and I celebrated our silver anniversary last year.
DeleteCongratulations to your parents, a very busy year for you with lots of special memories, xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you. It is a busy year but I'm sure we'll enjoy every minute of the celebrations.
DeleteA quiet meal, beautiful flowers and family in your home is a lovely way to celebrate. I loved the photos that you shared and the bouquet was very special. Your mum's veil was fab as well.
ReplyDeleteEleanor and I spent some time with them this morning and they received a phone call from Daniel. We've had a lovely meal and the card from Her Majesty was very well received so I think they've enjoyed their day. I love my mum's veil, I had a similar one when I got married.
DeleteHappy anniversary to your parents, what lovely memories and photos :-) True true love! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you. They sure must have something to have lasted this long, I hope Mick and I have it too.
DeleteCongratulations to your Mum and Dad x
ReplyDeleteMy Mum loved her card from the Queen :-)
Thank you. Lovely to see you blogging again. I remember your parents receiving their card from The Queen, I think it was last year if my memory serves me right, it's such a lovely gesture and makes the day very special.
DeleteCongratulations to your Mum and Dad! It's always a delight to hear of couples celebrating so many years together. Enjoy your meal with them.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's lovely to know that true love still exists, isn't it? We had a lovely meal and my mum and dad really enjoyed it.
DeleteHey Jo,
ReplyDeleteYour Mum's wedding flowers look amazing too, as does her dress! I love looking at old wedding photos for the different styles of dress. Huge congratulations and best wishes to your Mum and Dad on their whopping anniversary. Fantastic!
Leanne xx
I love looking at these type of old photos too, my mum's bouquet is fabulous, isn't it? Thank you.
DeleteWow you have got a lot of celebrations this year. Love the flowers they're beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWe have. I was really pleased with the flower arrangement, I think they're fabulous.
DeleteHuge congratulations to your parents. It is our 50th wedding anniversary in December. No! That can't be right! But it is.In my head I am perhaps 50.We are both so busy, into loads of things ,like philosophy, reading ,theatre,French, social history, meals out with friends, family. How times have changed.Thank goodness.Long may it continue!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Time does slip by, doesn't it? We celebrated our silver wedding anniversary last year yet it doesn't seem two minutes since our wedding day.
DeleteI didn't know you could arrange to have an anniversary card from HM the Queen. My brother in law and sister in law will celebrate their diamond wedding next year, so how do I go about arranging this? We are a little behind them, we've only been married for 51 years!
ReplyDeleteMargaret P
It does make it special receiving a greeting from Her Majesty. Have a look at the following website, it gives details here of how to apply. I don't think you can do it before about five weeks prior to the big day.

Many congratulations to your parents. My parents celebrate 50 years of marriage this year, in August. They are having a big party in early September :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are going to be doing lots of celebrating this year!
Thank you. We had a bigger celebration for my mum and dad's 50th wedding anniversary but the low key affair yesterday was more suited to what they like these days. I hope your parents enjoy their party in September.
DeleteCongratulations to your parents..how lovely the photos are. A busy year ahead and much to celebrate for your whole family.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It will be a very busy year but enjoyable, I'm sure.
DeleteYou have lots of special celebrations this year!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your mum & dad, the wedding photos are lovely, I just read your comment about your mum giving you her photo album, what a lovely thought and something for you to treasure and pass on, eventually.
The bouquet is beautiful, have a lovely evening. x
We do. Thank you. I couldn't believe my mum giving me her wedding album but I suppose she wants to make sure that it goes where it should, I'll treasure it always. We had a lovely evening, I think they both enjoyed their day.
DeleteI hope your mum and dad have had a wonderful day and you've enjoyed your meal together. Those flowers are beautiful. So exciting having a telegram!
ReplyDeletePlease send them our very best wishes for such a happy celebration.
Lisa x
They certainly seem to have enjoyed their day and we all enjoyed our meal. I really think the celebratory message from The Queen was something special, they were thrilled with that. I will certainly pass on your best wishes, thank you.
DeleteCongrats to your Mum and Dad on their 60th. That's definitely a milestone. Busy year for you with all those 'big' birthdays. How did you work that? (giggle) Happy birthday to Daniel tomorrow too. Have lovely weekend and take care.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's a very busy year due to our lack of planning ha ha. Thank you for the birthday wishes for Daniel too.
DeleteCongratulations and happy anniversary to your parents!!! How wonderful, I hope they have more years of happy marriage together! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you. I hope so too, wouldn't it be lovely for them to get to 65, the next anniversary that The Queen sents a congratulatory message for.
DeleteCongratulations to your parents, my parents will also celebrate their 60th this December. I love the photos, thank you for sharing. Your mother had a beautiful bridal flower arrangement.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's such a milestone anniversary, isn't it. My parents had a lovely day, I hope yours do too when their turn comes in December.
DeleteCongratulations to your parents. Glad they had a lovely celebration day and you all enjoyed the evening meal. That's a beautiful bouquet. It's good to have the photos of their wedding. The informal one of your Mum showing off her ring is delightful. Happy birthday to Daniel!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I really like the photo of my mum showing off her ring, that ring has never been off her finger since that day. Thank you for the birthday wishes for Daniel too, we're celebrating with him later on today.
DeleteLovely photographs Jo. I know these days it's so much more professional but in someways a bit staged. I think it's far nicer to be looking at old black & whites with a natural look to them. I hope you all have a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, I don't think you can quite capture things the way they used to when taking a photo. My mum and dad really enjoyed their day yesterday.
DeleteHappy anniversary to your parents! I hope they had the loveliest day. It's wonderful to see their wedding photos - they both looked so happy. Thanks for sharing them. Wishing you all a great year of celebrations! X
ReplyDeleteThank you, they really enjoyed their special day. I do like looking back on old photos, but sadly, many of the people on them are no longer with us. I'm sure it's going to be a wonderful year of celebrations.
DeleteThose photos are lovely, congrats to your parents.
ReplyDeleteMeredith
I'm really pleased that we have these photos which capture my mum and dad's big day, something to treasure. Thank you.
DeleteWonderful. I love the photos.
ReplyDeleteMe too, it's lovely to be able to look back on them and see their happy day all those years ago.
DeleteBig year here too - I am 60 and the village hall is 80 - oh and the queen is 90!
ReplyDeleteCelebrations all round then.
DeleteCongratulations to your mum and dad, that's a real achievement. It sounds like you've got a lot of celebrating coming up this year :-) xx
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, we have lots of celebrations ahead of us this year, I'll be all partied out by the end of them all.
Delete"This is just the beginning of a year of celebrations here. It's Daniel's 21st birthday tomorrow and later in the year is his graduation, Eleanor's 18th birthday and Mick's 50th birthday. It's a busy year."
ReplyDeleteMany congratulations to your mum and dad and thank you for sharing their wonderful photo's.
Reading through your last paragraph, yes - you sure have one busy but very special year.
May you enjoy all the wonderful and most special times ahead.
Hope the weekend has been a good one, I'm sure it has.
Happy Birthday to Daniel... and congratulations once more, to your mum and dad 60 yrs is very special.
All good wishes for the coming new week.
All the best Jan
Thank you. It was only last year that I realised there were going to be so many big celebrations this year, I didn't plan that very well, did I? Thank you for your birthday wishes for Daniel, he wasn't very well at all when we went to see him on Friday so the celbrations are on hold until he's feeling up to it.
DeleteHow lovely, Jo. You are doing your parents proud! Congratulations to them and all your family members celebrating milestones this year. P x
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's certainly a busy year for us.
DeleteOh what a special day that must have been for your parents Jo. Many congratulations to them. I hope that Daniel enjoyed his 21st too and that he was able to be at home for the occasion.
ReplyDeleteThank you. My mum and dad enjoyed their celebrations, as they should after sixty years of marriage. Daniel wasn't able to get home for his 21st, in fact, he was ill so the celebrations for him have been put on hold until he's feeling better.
DeleteCongratulations to your parents! We arranged for my nan & grandad to have a card from the Queen for their 60th and 65th wedding anniversaries.
ReplyDeleteThank you. The card from The Queen is a lovely touch when they're celebrating such a wonderful anniversary, it would be lovely for them to receive a second one if they reach 65 years.
DeleteWhat super photos, I hope you had a lovely time celebrating.
ReplyDeleteWe did. They were very quiet celebrations but I think my mum and dad had a lovely day.
