2014 Challenge Results

My 2014 challenges were:-

1) Knit one hat each week for The Innocent Big Knit.

2) Do something nice for me.

3) Choose a non fiction book from the library.

I had fifty little hats ready in good time to send in to Age UK for The Innocent Big Knit. These hats will adorn Innocent Smoothie bottles which will be in shops in February and every bottle sold will generate a 25p donation from Innocent to support Age UK's Spread the Warmth campaign, helping older people during the colder months. I shall be looking out in the shops in February to see if I can spot any of my own hats perched on the top of any Innocent bottles.

I found it quite hard to think of nice things for me. I suppose this says that I'm already quite content with life as it is. Over the year, they ranged from days out to watching DVDs to spending time with family and eating out. I did enjoy taking time out from the ordinary though and thinking about myself for a change.

I've loaned some really interesting books from the library over the course of the year. I think the book I borrowed in November, This Was Garforth, which was published by Garforth Historical Society was my favourite as I thoroughly enjoy reading about the history of the area in which I live.

I think these fun challenges are much more sensible that making new year's resolutions which tend to get broken fairly quickly. I'm coming up with some new ones for 2015 but they've yet to be finalised.

    1. The charity shop volunteer seemed really pleased when I dropped them off at the Age UK shop. They're such small things that they really don't take any knitting.

    1. I chose books which I wouldn't ordinarily borrow from the library and really enjoyed them. I shall continue to look for books a little different from the norm from now on.

  6. Well done with the hats, Jo, I wonder if you'll spot any of yours in the shops! With the challenges I think it's good to take time for yourself and do something nice. I always think that if we don't look after ourselves, how can we look after our families and others? x

    1. I shall be looking out for mine in the shops but I doubt I'll see any. I think we often forget to take time for ourselves so this challenge has really made me think about what I'm doing for myself.

  7. The main thing is to enjoy the challenges we set ourselves. Yours must have been very pleasurable and the making of the fun hats will benefit others too. I look forward to hearing about your challenges for 2015! Linda :)

    1. Definitely. That's the whole point of setting challenges rather than making resolutions. I shall probably knit some hats for the Big Knit again in 2015 but maybe not fifty.

  9. What lovely resolutions you chose. My favourite is the innocent smoothie challenge. Well done for making 50 hats !! I wouldn't mind doing that, would be a great way to learn how to knit. I've got a lot on my plate for 2015 though so perhaps another year ;) I hope you had a lovely christmas x

    1. The little hats are so easy to make, a great project for a beginner but I know what it's like, so many things to do and so little time. I'm hoping to get stuck in to some new things in 2015 too.

  10. I will watch out for the hats in February - it's such a great way to raise awareness of fuel issues for older people and your little hats look really cute too! I hope that you've had a good Christmas and send loads of best wishes for 2015. Jx
