A Holiday Birthday

We got home from our holiday in Cornwall late yesterday afternoon. The weather has been mixed over the last fortnight, we had rain, sunshine and dull days in equal measure, but we've had a lovely time.

Thank you to everyone who left such lovely comments on my last post. Eleanor was thrilled to receive so many birthday wishes, it made her day.

We'd arranged for her to have a full body Swedish massage in the morning, however, she was still suffering the effects of sunburn on her back so we postponed it until a couple of days later. Instead, after card and present opening, at Eleanor's request, we headed off to Constantine Bay.

I'd read about Constantine Bay before our holiday and earmarked it as a place we may visit as it allows dogs the year round. Dogs have to be kept on leads on some beaches, allowed between certain times on others, whilst dogs aren't allowed at all on some.

We'd visited Padstow a couple of days earlier and stopped off at Constantine Bay on the way home just to see what it was like. It's got gorgeous sandy sand and the clearest blue water, but it does tend to get quite busy.

There's a large area of rocks, great if you like rockpooling.

It's a very popular beach and attracts many holidaymakers.

Parts of the beach are extremely rocky, but very picturesque.

The sea here is crystal clear. I can see why it's popular with surfers.

So, Eleanor's birthday dawned and it was a beautiful day, perfect for a day at Constantine Bay. She took her body board with her and both she and Mick enjoyed lots of fun in the sea. Ice creams were devoured, more so by Archie than the rest of us.

We explored the rock pools and found a mini waterfall.

Archie enjoyed cooling off in the rock pools and some were so deep that he even enjoyed a little swim in them.

It was a good day. Afterwards, we went back to the lodge to get changed before heading out for a bite to eat. Eleanor thoroughly enjoyed celebrating her birthday on holiday.

I've got lots of catching up with blog reading to do now we're home so please bear with me. It looks like you've all been busy, I've got so many posts to read but I'm sure I'll be caught up in the next few days.

  4. What a beautiful coastline, at least you got some sunny days, I hope Eleanor didn't suffer too much with the sunburn.

    1. We had quite a few sunny days but they were interspersed with cloudy or rainy days. We all had sunburn to some degree, obviously not careful enough with the suncream.

    1. There's some fabulous beaches in Cornwall, we were spoilt for choice really. Archie loves it on the beach, especially if there's rock pools there and he definitely loves an ice cream treat.

    1. Time's really flying by this year. We all had a lovely time and a holiday wouldn't be a holiday for Archie without an ice cream.

  7. Glad you had a lovely day out for Eleanor's birthday and that beach does look lovely and "sandy". You have a lot of pebbly beaches in the UK, as I've seen on TV. Seems like you had a great holiday, even Archie. Take care.

    1. We've never been away for Eleanor's birthday before so it was something a bit different for her. A good way to celebrate, I'm just glad that the weather cooperated on that day.

    1. We had enough fine weather mixed in with the rain to enable us to do everything we wanted to. Constantine Bay is beautiful, though quite touristy.

    1. We let Eleanor choose where she wanted to spend the day, I think she made a great choice, I'm just glad that the sun was shining. Eleanor enjoyed her massage, she'd treated herself to one in the first week and wasn't expecting a second one. Archie doesn't like to miss out on any celebrations.

    1. It was a lovely holiday. We had a couple of celebrations whilst we were there as it was our wedding anniversary on the 7th, not that we ever do much to celebrate, but it was a great way to celebrate Eleanor's birthday.

  17. Hi Jo,

I'm just catching up with your holiday posts - it does look like you all had a really nice time and that the weather wasn't too bad :) There's nothing like a day spent rockpooling, is there? I am 28 and still get ridiculously excited at the prospect of it!

    Best wishes,

    1. We all love rockpooling, beachcombing too, though we didn't do very much of that this year, I don't know why. We usually bring home lots of little treasures.

  18. What a great day you all had, especially Archie! I bet he thought it was his birthday! Ha ha. That beach really looks beautiful. I find that beaches are always busy in this country (when it is sunny), but once you are there, the sound of the sea makes you forget how busy it is! It's so relaxing. We love rockpooling, it is great fun and we are hoping to do some over the summer. I know what you mean about catching up with blogs, I am always playing catch up (even without a holiday!) but I love it when I finally catch up with what everybody has been up to! Have a great weekend, Jo! :)

    1. I think the sound of the sea is so relaxing. I don't really mind busy beaches, you can usually find a quiet corner somewhere. Some little coves in Cornwall are fairly quiet so there's always somewhere to go if you don't want to be surrounded by people. Archie loves the beach, especially rock pools.

    1. This was the first time we were away for Eleanor's birthday, she's always usually been at school but with her finishing early this year after her GCSEs, it meant we could get away early. I think Eleanor enjoyed doing something different on her birthday.
