It's All Over Now

That's it, finito!

The end of Eleanor's GCSEs. She took her last exam this morning, Maths. Now we just have to wait patiently until the 21st of August for her to get her results.

There's a big end of exam barbecue party happening later today at her friend's house which she's going to and then a bunch of girls are sleeping over. Happy times.

Eleanor's been on study leave since the 21st of May but has been going in to school for revision sessions or when she's had an exam. Uniform has had to be worn on these occasions but today is the very last time she'll have to wear a school uniform, something she's not sad about at all. When she returns to the sixth form in September, she has to wear smart business attire, not that many of the students do, they turn up wearing all sorts of things. One thing's for sure, she's happy she doesn't have to wear a tie again.

  1. I'm sure I just heard your sigh of relief :-) thats one huge milestone over with! Well done to Eleanor, she certainly has put the effort in with all the studying and revision over the last few months. It is a long time to wait for the results but I'm sure it will be fine. Time to relax and enjoy the summer break. xx

    1. I think those in Australia will have heard my sighs of relief today. Eleanor's worked really hard with all the revision, it will be a bit of a tense time waiting for the results but whatever they are, I know she's done her best so that's good enough for me. Like you say, I think we all need to forget about GCSEs now and enjoy the summer.

  2. Fingers crossed, it's a long wait isn't it. Your last sentence made me smile as I never did like wearing ties although I had for most of my working life. Flighty xx

    1. It is a long wait. Daniel's done his first year university exams too and he'll get his results in the next week or two, much better than waiting right through summer for them. I've never worn a tie, I didn't have a school uniform at high school, but I do think they look smart. The school really enforces its uniform policy and ties aren't allowed to be slack even on hot days so they're all glad when they don't have to wear them any longer. Mick's not a tie lover either, he only wears one when he's got a meeting.

  3. Hurray! I'm sure she must be feeling very relieved. I love reading about your school system, I think it sounds so much more comprehensive and preparatory than ours is. I hope she receives excellent scores, but somehow I know she did great. :)

    1. Eleanor's feeling very relieved. She's had a couple of wobbly moments through the exams but on the whole she's coped really well but glad that they're all finished now. I've got mixed feelings about our school system, I think kids are tested more than they need to be and alot of the teaching is how to pass exams rather than giving our young people tools on how to get on in life, but Eleanor's really enjoyed her time in school and is sad that her school years have come to an end. I know she's put alot of work in to revising for these exams so I know she's done her best and whatever grades she achieves will be good enough for me.

  4. Not long until August.... I'll be chewing my nails with you for sure! David is very happy that he can relax now, and (I think) planning a decent sleep or two!

    1. It's a long wait really when you're on tenterhooks. Eleanor needs certain grades to be able to take the A levels she's chosen so she's a bit worried about that, but otherwise, I think we need to chill out now. I'm sure they've both done as well as they can, and that's all that matters really.

  5. Good luck to Eleanor! I bet she is thrilled to get the done and dusted. I remember on my last day, I wore a uniform and all of my friends wrote good luck messages on the blouse. I am not sure if that is still the tradition, but it sure was fun! It sounds like she has worked very hard with her revision, so I bet she will do great, Jo. I bet you are very proud of her. :)

    1. Eleanor's pleased that she's got a rest now and doesn't have to do any more revision. It's still the tradition for them to get their shirt signed on the last day, she came home with it filled with messages, though they did that a few weeks ago on their last day of school before study leave. We're really proud of Eleanor, she's put such a lot of effort in to these exams, I just hope her results reflect it.

    1. It seems as though the exams have been going on forever, such a relief that we've come to the end of them now. I'm hoping for a lovely summer, though it doesn't look as though it's on the cards going by today, we've got rain again.

  8. Well done to Eleanor - she certainly put the hours in. It doesn't sem long since it was Daniel taking his GCSEs; time flies doesn't it? KL got her final exam result this week - she was a tad disappointed , but finished the year with a 72 for her final essay, which she was pleased about. It's been a bit of a mixed year for her- she has found some things difficult, but seems to have breezed through others.

Daniel's still got a fortnight left of this term before he finishes for summer, I think he'll get his results in his last week. He's certainly enjoying the social aspect of university, these results should let us know if he's buckling down to his studies as well as his social life.

  9. I'm so pleased for Eleanor that the exams have come to an end, she has put in a lot of time and effort with all that revision. Will the tie be cut up into little pieces in celebration?!
How wonderful to have the BBQ to mark the occasion.
And I'm relieved for you too as it must have been pretty intense at your home these past few weeks.
    Have a great weekend.

    1. Ha ha, I'm sure Eleanor would love to cut the tie up in to little pieces but I've commandeered it for her keepsake box, much to her disgust. I haven't heard from Eleanor since yesterday so I don't know how the barbecue went yet, I'm sure they'll all have had a good time though. It has been quite intense over the last few weeks, Mick's given Eleanor lots of his time helping her to revise, but she's been really good and has worked so hard on her own too. She deserves some good grades, but she's really had to work for whatever she does get.

    1. I think Eleanor will enjoy the next few weeks and then, as you say, nerves will kick in waiting for the results. She's put so much work in that she deserves a nice long break for the summer now.

  11. I hope that all of the exams have gone really well for Eleanor and that she gets great results to start off her time in the 6th Form with!! I can totally understand the not wanting to have to wear a tie again, so I see why she is so glad about that! xx

    1. Eleanor's got mixed feelings about the exams, she thinks that some have gone well, some not so well, but we'll see when she gets her results. I've never had to wear a tie so I've sympathised with her about that.

  12. Nice that the exams are done, now its just the waiting for the results. Good luck to her. :) Mikayla was not sad to lose the uniform, or the uniform inspections!

    1. It's a relief that they're all over with now, though of course, as you say, we still have to wait for the results. I'll be pleased not to have to iron any more white shirts, two each day were going in the washing basket when Daniel was at school too, I'm not sad to see the back of them.

  13. Uniforms were never my thing at school or work, so I sympathise with Eleanor. Hope all the exams went well and she has a lovely summer break. Take care.

    1. I had to wear a purple uniform at middle school, imagine that. We're all looking forward to the summer break, it's so nice not to have routines.

  15. I bet that party was a great one! I'm sure Eleanor is happy to have finished her exams and is looking forward to the summer break! Our grand daughter is in her first year of her GCSE course and takes one exam on Tuesday. Her school system means that she takes some subjects early after a crash course, but she has loads more next year. Treatment at the orthodontist this week too so she'll be glad when everything is over and it's the end of term and relaxation for a while!

    1. They all had a great time. I think they were relieved that the exams are now over so they all let their hair down. The summer term is always a hectic one with one thing or another going on. Good luck to your grandaughter, I'm sure she'll do really well in her exam.
