The Secret Life Of Bees

I've been wanting to read The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd for some time now, so I was pleased when I came across it in one of the charity shops. I buy most of the books I read from charity shops now, but I'm often amazed at some of the prices they charge. This book was bought from a local hospice charity shop and cost me 59p, but I've seen shops wanting to charge only a pound less than I could buy the same book for new.

I read In The Company of Cheerful Ladies by Alexander McCall Smith last month.

At the moment, I'm continuing with The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency Series with Blue Shoes and Happiness by Alexander McCall Smith.

I'm pleased that I set myself a reading challenge at the start of the year, it's going very well so far. I'm managing to read at least one book each month, and now I'm back in the habit of picking up a book, I'm sure I'll continue to read regularly.

  1. I've just started to get back into reading and I'm really enjoying it. I have a small colletion of books to work my way through. I find I lack time to just sit and read but with the dark nights drawing in now it should be easier to spend a bit more time reading as I will not be busy outside.

    1. I used to be a real book worm but got out of the habit of reading many years ago. I'm really enjoying reading again now. I also lack the time to just sit and read, I tend to read a chapter or two before I fall asleep in bed.

  2. I too enjoy reading. It is very relaxing being able to disappear into somebody else's world.

    1. I agree with what you say. I get so involved in a story that I block out everything which is going on around me.

    1. I only read one book at once. I think I'd get confused if I had more than one book on the go.

  4. The Secret Life was another book club read last year and it was liked by everyone, hope you enjoy it too.
My book club is on Wed and I haven't read this months choice!
Apparently it's a short one, which is lucky!

  5. I do enjoy reading a good book. Like you, I usually try and read just before going to bed, it's the only time I get. I am so thankful we have a great library nearby as well, that sure helps.
Have a lovely day today x

    1. The only problem with reading in bed is that it makes me sleepy, I rarely get past a couple of chapters. Our library has just had a facelift, we're so lucky to have such a good library on our doorstep as they're closing so many down.

  6. I always have a book on the go. I would feel there was something missing if I didn't have a book to read. It is the one habit I am delighted I passed on to my boys.

    1. I think it's so important to get children reading. I know both of mine could do better, they'd rather have an iPod in their hands.

  7. Hi Jo, thanks as always for the lovely comments over at my blog.
I'm afraid I have gone off reading for now, I am just too tired when I go to bed these days to even be bothered!

  9. I love reading, but don't read enough anymore, just a few pages while hubby showers on a night so it takes ages to read anything. Love Secret Life of Bees, hope you enjoy. x

    1. Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment. It's a long time since I've read many books so I set myself the challenge at the start of the year to read at least one book each month. It's really got me back in to the habit of reading, and I'm loving it.
