These photos were taken on our walk in the grounds of Temple Newsam on Sunday. Such gorgeous colours, but it does confirm that autumn's definitely here.
Another giveaway that autumn's here is the fungi. It seems to be growing everywhere at the moment, I've even got it popping up in my lawn. These photos were also taken on our walk.
I'm fascinated with fungi, but don't know very much about it so can't tell you what kind it is, though it looks kind of like a large brain.
It won't be long now until there's crunchy leaves underfoot and the trees are bare. I do hope we're not in for a harsh winter this year.
As I'm typing this I'm looking out of the window and the leaves are certainly turning to their Autumnal shades. I too hope that the Winter is not too harsh.

There's some gorgeous colours around at the moment, one of the things I do love about autumn.
DeleteI can see some lovely trees from my classroom! Hopefully we will have a few more dry days and all this Autumnal colour will last. Jx
ReplyDeleteI love the dry days of autumn, especially when the sun comes out. Quite chilly but still pleasant.
DeleteThe signs are there, there's no denying it. Curious looking fungus - we have a few different types on the lawn too although havent seen this one, maybe something to do with the wet summer?
ReplyDeleteI suppose it's best to just give in and make the most of it - this week my hubbys away so I'm in my jimmies snuggled with a blanket and watching a dvd by 8pm - bliss!
Gill xx
I think there'll be many types of fungi around this year because of the wet summer. These darker evenings do make you want to put the fire on, draw the curtains and snuggle up in a blanket.
DeleteAutumn is definitely here, and I love it! I must visit Temple Newsham (I always say that when I visit your blog!). I saw some of those funghi at the weekend and they're remarkable. So big!
ReplyDeleteYes, the fungi was huge. You must pay a visit to Temple Newsam, the children would love the farm.
DeleteLovely colours on the trees in your photos Jo. Must admit, I do love autumn. The trees in my front garden are on the turn as I look out of the window
ReplyDeleteThere's some gorgeous colours out just now. I always enjoy my blueberry bushes when they change to a red colour in autumn.
DeleteI love the colours. It's nice getting out for a walk when you can. The weather is so changable. Lashing rain again here this evening in Dublin
ReplyDeleteI wish the rain would come overnight, as it did last night, and allow a bit of sunshine during the day. It makes all the difference.
DeleteCrunchy leaved walks are my favourite ever!

It's not so nice when it's been raining and all the leaves underfoot are soggy though.
DeleteThe leaves are flying around the school playground.
ReplyDeleteConkers are being smuggled into the children's pockets.
Sft x
I always loved this time of year when I was young and we used to go collecting conkers. I remember standing under trees throwing sticks at them to make the conkers fall.
DeleteSome of those fungi are eatable - you just need to know which ones. We are having our last day of warm weather but have been luckier than most since it has lasted until now.
ReplyDeleteI'd never dare eat fungi I'd found, even with the aid of a book for identification. Some are so similar that I'd probably end up poisoning myself.
DeleteThat's one thing about weather... you never know what you're going to get.
ReplyDeleteOur leaves are at about 50% and we're very lucky to have thousands of acres that change to most majestic of colours.
Hope you and yours are keeping well.
Susan x
I bet all those acres look stunning in their autumn colours.
DeleteIt's reckoned that it's going to be a really colourful autumn this year. Be nice if it is.
ReplyDeleteLike you I find fungi fascinating but know next to nothing about the subject. Flighty xx
I hope so, one of the endearing things about autumn is the colour. I bought myself a book about fungi but still don't know much about it.
DeleteI love it when the leaves start to turn colour..so pretty. Nothing like a sunny Autumn day..we lucked out today and had some sun (though the next week looks like rain..sigh, I guess enjoy it when it's here!).
ReplyDeleteMagie x
I'm trying to make the most of every sunny day we get now, there won't be many left this year.
DeleteThat fungi is incredible!
ReplyDeleteI had been afraid we might just slip into one of those colourless autumns where everything just shrivels and dies back, but the colour is appearing here now too :D
I think it's going to be a really colourful autumn this year. The leaves on the trees are turning to some gorgeous colours now, and there's so many berries around too.
