Nearly Finished

You may remember me coming across this unfinished cross stitch again which I started in my early teens, it's definitely the the oldest unfinished project I've got. I was in two minds whether to finish it off or not, especially as it had a rust mark on it. Take a look at what I mean in my Rusty Cat post. I decided I'd give it a go and the stitching actually covered up the stain so it wasn't a problem in the end. All the cross stitching is now done.

This means there's just the back stitching to do now, my least favourite bit. I've been toying with the idea of leaving it as it is but you can see from the photo accompanying the kit that the back stitching just finishes it off, so I think I've come all this way to getting it finished, I'll just have to bite the bullet and continue on with it. What do you think?

I've been working on this for an hour each week as part of my crafting rotation and even though it's only a small wedge of time, it does mean that older projects get a little work put into them and get finished off eventually.

  1. Well done Jo it's lovely and I think if I were you I would do the back stitching, you have spent so much time on it it would be a shame not to finish it off properly. Are you going to frame it and hang it somewhere? Enjoy your weekend. x

    1. I think I'll have to frame it, though it won't be getting pride of place, the cross stitching from my teens leaves a lot to be desired.

  10. Wow... you finished that up in record time. I always hated the backstitching too, but it was always worth it in the end.

  13. You really must finish it off and it does look lovely. I'm glad you managed to hide the rust mark, you'd never know it was there.

  15. That is lovely Jo! How wonderful to be finishing a project from your teens. If only you could have looked into the future when you started it and know about the finished item!

  17. So cute! The back stitching does make quite the difference. I have quite a few languishing projects, especially in the knitting basket, but I've been having trouble with one of my wrists so my time knitting has been drastically cut down. I am looking forward to getting back to them, hopefully in the fall.

  18. Slow and steady wins the race, as they say :-) I'm with you on the back stitching, not something I like doing either, but, it does bring the cat to life so I think it will be worth biting the bullet and doing it.
