What I'm Watching - October 2019

TV and film that I've been watching this month.

I started taping the BBC drama The Capture when it started but by the time I got round to watching it I had all six episodes waiting for me. I quite like it when this happens and I can watch a new episode one night after the other instead of waiting week after week. The first episode was compelling, I didn't know where the story was taking me but I was hooked waiting to see what was unfolding. It wasn't until episode two that I understood in which direction it was going. I thought it was a great storyline and really made you think.

Once we finished The Capture, we started on Dublin Murders. I watched the first episode and wasn't sure it was for me, the second episode lost me completely, it just didn't hold my interest at all. I've decided not to watch any further but Mick's going to persevere with it.

I haven't watched The X Factor for many years now, I thought it had run its course after just a few series. This year, instead of searching amongst the public, they've cast their net amongst, so called, celebrities. How is it that an unknown who then goes on to appear on some reality show automatically turns into a celebrity? Anyway, I thought it might be fun to watch X Factor Celebrity so we watched the auditions and have watched the first live show too, but I think they're flogging a dead horse. It's time they called it a day and put this horse out to pasture. I don't think I'll watch any further.

There are a few podcasters who are doing Vlogtober this month. Basically, they record snippets of their everyday lives and upload them daily to YouTube. I'm watching Ali at Little Drops of Wonderful, Sherrie at Ollie & Bella and Gayna at Tales From Cuckoo Land. It's like a little peek to see what they get up to each day, gosh I am nosey!

Have you been watching any of these? What else have you been watching this month?

  1. I enjoyed The Capture and gave up on Dublin Murders too. I'm watching Giri/Haji which despite the violence has caught my attention, Strictly and the new David Attenborough which is stunning of course.

    1. I'm glad I'm not the only one to give up on Dublin Murders, I just thought it was too hard going and I couldn't concentrate on it for some reason. Giri/Haji has passed me by and as much as I'd love to watch the David Attenborough series I don't watch any nature programmes as I just can't bear watching animals kill each other. I know, it the natural order of things, but I'm too soft.

  2. We've been watching the World on Fire drama on BBC1 Sunday nights - harrowing but compelling. We also like Strictly, although the scoring has been a bit haphazard and Craig seems to be even nastier and more miserable than usual this year.

    1. I gave up on World on Fire after about a quarter of an hour, it just didn't seem my thing. I love Strictly, though it's funny you saying that Craig seems nastier and more miserable this year, I thought the opposite.

  3. I loved Capture and I'm enjoying Dublin murders, but I am a couple behind on the latter. I did want h The Accident, bit did not like Sarah Lancaster fake Welsh accent or her mumbling, not sure if I will watch 2nd episode.

    1. I thought The Capture was really good, it had such a good storyline. The Accident is another that I've given up on recently, there seems to be quite a few just lately that haven't grabbed my attention when they looked promising. I usually like Sarah Lancashire.

  4. I'm "off" watching murder and mayhem, of the real variety, I guess. But "Stranger Things" is OK. -grin-

Can't get into the Vlog thing. Same with podcasts, can't get into them either. Guess I rather the written word.

Or.... I'm just stuck in the past!!!! -big grin-

    1. I've never watched Stranger Things but it seems to have a good following. I really enjoy watching podcasts and vlogs, perhaps you just haven't found any which have struck a chord with you.

  5. I watch a few podcasts, but none of my favorites did Vlogtober this year.

Other than that it's mostly the news and football on television.

    1. It's quite hard to keep up with daily vlogs when they do Vlogtober or Vlogmas, especially if there's a lot of them doing it like they do at Christmas time. I don't watch sport but it's always on our TV as Mick enjoys many kinds of sport, it was rugby this weekend.

  6. I didn't watch The Capture but it sounds like it is worth a look. I am trying to follow Dublin Murders but am so confused ... I either need to start again (and pay attention) or give up on it!

    1. The Capture is really good, well worth watching if you get the chance. I found Dublin Murders hard to concentrate on, and just a bit weird too if I'm honest.

  7. I couldn't get into the tv drama The Dublin Murders. Somehow it rang a bell and then I remember getting the novel out of the library a long time ago and I gave up on that too! We've been watching nature and travel programmes lately as something soothing to look at and also informative is what we need at the moment.

    1. It doesn't bode well if you couldn't get into the book either. I would love nature programmes if animals didn't kill each other, but then that wouldn't be nature, would it. I just can't stand to watch it.

  8. I've not watched any of the new dramas - I also couldn't get into World on Fire. I look forward to the Christmas films on Ch5 on Sunday afternoons. I've re-started with Strictly after losing interest for a bit - but Halloween onwards seems to draw me back in. I watch quite a few vlogs on You Tube.

    1. It's a bit early for Christmas films for me, I like the anticipation so I wait until a bit closer to Christmas before I allow myself to watch them. I really enjoy podcasts and vlogs, I think there's something for everyone's interests.

  9. I haven't really watched anything this month, but I do love listening to Podcasts on my phone I haven't watch any though, I tend to listen to me them whilst doing the housework or gardening so might be a bit difficult to watch too!

    1. Podcasts are great to listen to when you're doing other things, they help pass the time when doing chores.

  10. I'm certainly enjoying the return of Strictly on a Saturday night, but don't watch 'It Takes Two'
The costumes and make-up continue to be amazing, they certainly have a wonderful back-stage team on the show.

    All the best Jan

    1. I watch It Takes Two as it gives me extra time to work on my socks. I think Strictly really comes across as a show where everyone works together, from the celebrities and the professional dancers right to the the people behind the scenes and even the camera crew.

    1. I don't watch sport but Mick enjoys so many different sports that there's always something he's watching whatever time of year it is.

  12. Not watching much at the moment, as nothing interests me & too many repeats on now. I've never watched a podcast, so maybe I should have a go. Take care & huggles.

    1. The repeats drive me mad, they repeat things which have been on earlier in the week as well as things from years ago. You should definitely take a look at podcasts, there's something for everyone's interests.

  13. I enjoy watching Strictly but don´t tend to watch the thrillers, with the hour difference they come on too late and I can do without that sort of éxcitment´before bed. xcx

    1. I must admit that we rarely watch programmes when they're shown, we record just about everything and then watch them at a time which is convenient to us.

  14. Hi Jo I've not watched Captured I think it clashed with something else but I might catch up with it on iplayer. I watched confession as I remembered the story from when it was head line news. I am watching the Dublin Murders. I had guessed the connection between the boy who got out of the woods and the policeman. It is quite dark in places and I don't think it's D's cup of tea he spends most of the time on his ipad when its on. I'm not sure when I'll catch up with this weeks episodes as I was out last night and of course its bake off tonight so won't be able to watch last nights in tandem with tonights.

    1. I think you'd enjoy The Capture, definitely worth looking on iplayer for it. Yes, I watched A Confession too, I enjoyed it and remember it when it happened too. I've given up on Dublin Murders now but Mick's still got last week's episodes to watch as well as this week's.

  16. I haven't watched The capture or Dublin Murders, I might try them on catch-up at the weekend. I'm not into talent tv so have never watched X factor. I watch the same vlogs as you, although i'm a bit behind this week.

    1. The Capture is certainly worth watching if you get the chance. I used to enjoy watching X Factor when it first started but it became old really quickly and I stopped watching, I thought this series might be fun to watch but it really isn't.
