See You In September

See You In September by Charity Norman is one of those books which I couldn't put down.

When Cassie waved goodbye to her parents at the airport telling them 'See you in September', little did they know it would be years before they'd see her again.

She was on her way to New Zealand with her boyfriend, but after the pair split up, Cassie hitchhikes a lift with strangers who persuade her to stay with them amongst a farming community. It isn't long before Cassie is swept up in the atmosphere of the place as well as the charisma of their leader, Justin.

Cut off from her family, her frantic parents fight to bring her home before Justin's prophesied Last Day arrives.

I'd thoroughly recommend this book, I enjoyed it from start to finish, a real page turner.

If you want to know what else I've been reading lately, you can find a list in the sidebar. This shows all the books I've read this year and there's also lists of the books I've read right back to 2012.

    1. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My mum's still in hospital, she'd made some small improvements but wasn't so well again yesterday. I shall be going to see her this evening so I'm hoping she's a little better today. It will be her 83rd birthday tomorrow so I was hoping she'd be out in time for it, but it seems not.

    1. I think you'd enjoy this one. I'm onto my Christmas books now, I've just started the first one and it's going well so far. My mum's still in hospital, she wasn't very well again yesterday so I'm hoping she's picked up again when I go to see her this evening. It's her 84th birthday tomorrow so it looks like we'll be celebrating in the hospital.

  6. Cults are such a scary thing - I can well imagine the page turning nature of a book that delves into one, from both the child and parents side.

    1. I think it was really well written, I certainly kept turning the pages until I found out what happened.

  7. I love hearing that someone couldn't put down a book, that's the best recommendation. I will recommend this one to my husband as the cult thriller will appeal to him more than me. I'm excited to explore your book lists!

  8. Sounds interesting, but also a bit scary. I've heard all about weird cults, but New Zealand is a gorgeous place, although we've only explored the top half of the north island. Gee, that was a while ago now! Take care.

    1. Unfortunately, these things really happen. The author paints New Zealand as a very beautiful place, the perfect setting when you read the story.

    2. Gloriavale in the South Island is one very well known cult. In the very middle of nowhere. Totally beautiful and gorgeous (and getting over run by tourists in parts) but still with cults.

    3. The setting in the book sounds idyllic, and this plays its part in the story. I didn't realise there are known cults in New Zealand, though I don't know all that much about cults anyway so the book made for very interesting reading.

  9. Snap! I read this recently too Jo and was absolutely gripped. Have also read a couple of her other books 'The New Woman' and 'After The Fall' and think that you would also enjoy them. I've picked up from a couple of the above comments that your mum is in hospital. I hope that she was brighter when you visited tonight. Will be thinking of you xxx

  12. I'll have to give this author a try, Jo. Your post sent me to searching your sidebar -- some pretty nice handcrafts there! Like you, I think I'll start reading Agatha Christie again. The new 'Murder on the Orient Express' movie opens here on Friday and I can't wait to see it. Hope your Mum feels better. P. x
