Sammy

2008 - 29th June 2015.

Eleanor's bunny, Sammy, died on Monday. We're all so upset. It was only February when his brother, Monty, died. Even Archie seems to be missing him, well, both of them. When he goes in the garden he looks for them, but of course they're not there.

RIP beautiful bunny.

    1. She's fine, thank you. Although we're all very sad, both Daniel and Eleanor have had quite a few pets over the years and though it doesn't get any easier when we lose one of them, especially when we've had them for a long time, it's a sad fact of life. We've all shed a few tears though.

  4. How sad, do bunnies have a long life span?

    1. Sammy and Monty were brothers and were both seven when they died. I've read that the average age is between six and eight, then read somewhere else that the average age is between eight and ten, but I know of rabbits that have lived a much longer life than that even, so I'm not totally sure.

    1. Thank you. It was a bit of a shock to be honest as he seemed so healthy. He'd only been to the vet's at the beginning of the month for his annual health check and booster jab and the vet said he was looking really good for his age. At least he didn't suffer.

    1. Thank you. It was such a shock, we wasn't expecting anything to happen to him as he seemed in such good health, sometimes you just never know, but at least he didn't suffer which I'm glad about. They'll both be very sadly missed.

  10. It's so sad to lose a pet - people who don't have pets can't understand that a pet is one of the family!

    1. I cried when the hamster died. I don't care what type of animal it is, if you take it on as a pet then you care for it and it becomes a part of the family. As you say, pet owners understand this but many other people don't. We'll all miss our bunnies very much, they were very much loved.

  13. So sorry to read this news Jo ... it will be a time of sadness, adjustment but many fond memories too. Many years back when our family rabbit 'Honey' died, losing her did affect all family members and still to this day it is so lovely to be able to look at some old photo's and remember her and those happy times. We all - even rabbits have our own personality. RIP Sammy

    All the best Jan

    1. Thank you. You're so right, even pets have their own little personalities. Sammy was so different to Monty even though they were brothers, both wonderful in their own way though. We have lots of lovely photos of them both and we'll always remember the happy times we spent with them.

  14. So sad to lose one of your pets and I'm sending lots of huggles to you all, including Archie. I know when we had our two cats and Flufffy passed on that Tabitha missed her so much, as did the humans. Still miss my 2 cats. Take care Jo.

    1. Thank you. I think we always miss much loved pets, we still miss all those which passed away years ago, including ones from my childhood. I don't think animals are much different to us, they must miss their companions too.

  15. Ahh poor Sammy and he had done so well after his poorly foot, he will be greatly missed by you all but he will be busy catching up with Monty and finding out where the best dock leaves are kept.

    1. I know, he was so well again after the poorly foot incident, even the vet said he was looking in great health when he saw him at the beginning of the month for his annual check up. I like to think that he's with Monty again, that makes me smile.

    1. Thank you. You're right, I don't think we ever realise how big an impact a pet is going to have when they first come in to our lives, it's always upsetting when anything happens to them.
