Home For Summer

Daniel's just finished his second year at university and as he's changing accommodation again, last weekend was his moving out date for the house he's been sharing with five friends. He doesn't move in to his new house until September so I thought I might have him home for summer this year but that's not to be, he stayed from Saturday until Wednesday and then went back to stay with his girlfriend until he's able to move in to his own house.

His girlfriend has also changed accommodation but there was only the gap from Monday until Wednesday when she was without anywhere to live, and as she's American she doesn't have parents here to go home to so she came to stay with us too.

Daniel may not be home for Summer, but all his university paraphernalia is. These are the boxes taking up room in my conservatory, there's more upstairs in his bedroom and it's even spilled out on to the landing.

Goodness knows what the pink wig's for, I daren't ask.

One thing which Daniel doesn't bring home any more is his washing, he's become very domesticated as well as independent over the last two years, something I thought I'd never see. If it's done nothing else, university has certainly taught him how to look after himself.

  1. Have to say my eye was pulled to that pink wig too LOL !

It's always great to have your children home but as they grow up, we don't always get to see them as often as we used to or would like to ... all part of the growing up process.

As you say at least you're not doing his washing ... and I'm sure you will be able to find a home for those boxes - wont you ?

Do hope you have a good weekend.

    All the best Jan

    1. There's always lots of fancy dress parties at university, at least I hope that's what the pink wig is for. I'm really pleased that Daniel is having such a great time, that's what these years are all about. He isn't that far away, he's only in York so we do pop over to see him from time to time.

    1. They have. It doesn't seem two minutes since he was packing to go and now he's ready to start his last year. I think the least I know about the pink wig, the better.

  3. The pink wig made me laugh. You were very restrained if you didn't ask him what it was for. Did you at least try it on? :oD

    1. Definitely not, I don't know where it's been. I remember him having a smurf night when it was his freshers' week, that costume never made it home.

  4. To think you've been busy decluttering and all this has now landed, but hopefully you'll be able to pack it all neatly in his old room and enjoy the rest of summer. 2 years at Uni, has certainly flown by, but it seems this way for everyone these days, even the younger generation. Hope the weekend is going well and take care.

    1. One good thing is that I know it won't be here for long, it'll all be going back with him once he's moved in to his house, even the wig. I don't know where the last two years have gone, it's flown by.

  5. Oh I don't know, pink wigs are quite fashionable, aren't they? We have a blonde one floating about somewhere, a disheveled Marilyn Monroe. I would absolutely ask if I were you. I have just told my oldest that I am no longer prepared to do his laundry (he is nearly 15) because he never puts it in the laundry basket and expects me to pick it up from his floor. We'll see about those white shirts:-) I hope you get plenty of visits over the summer. x

    1. Even Eleanor hasn't shown any interest in the pink wig so I'm not sure I should, there's just some things a mum doesn't need to know. I know I've always been too soft with my kids, cooking, cleaning, washing and ironing for them. They've always managed to put clothes in the laundry basket though, I draw the line at picking up dirty clothes.

  7. Independence is a wonderful thing and you must be very proud of him. It's great to hear of a young adult who takes care of himself.

  8. That's a lot of stuff! When I saw the pink wig I thought of Stephanie from Lazy Town, a children's tv show Savanna used to like!

    1. It won't, we've already started going to open days and it won't be long before Eleanor's making her choice.

  10. We have a pink wig here too! Lazy Town has had a revival here as Miss L has been watching it! The wig belonged to her big sister. I wonder what occasion your Daniel wore his for??

    1. I'm hoping it was for a fancy dress party, I'm not going to ask him as I might not like the answer.
