An Anonymous Donation

You may have heard the story in the news about the donation of a vintage wedding dress which was received by a charity shop. There was a note pinned to the dress saying how the gentleman who donated the dress has spent 56 happy years with his wife and how lucky he was to marry her.

The media got hold of the story and it made the nationals. A call was put out to trace the gentleman who had donated the dress and eventually the charity shop found out who he was. He lives in my little town but wants to remain anonymous. The charity shop supports St Gemma's, a local hospice, and they're auctioning the wedding dress on Ebay. The bid is currently at £6400.00 but there's still five days left to go.

It's such a heartwarming story, so nice to read something positive in the news instead of all doom and gloom. I hope the dress raises lots of money for such a worthwhile cause.

    1. The shop only opened the week before last. They had another shop further up the street but they opened this larger shop and then had this wonderful donation. I thought they might have the dress on display in the window, but it hasn't appeared yet.

  5. What a story of love and devotion. Perhaps the gentleman felt his wife had loved it all her life, he loved her all his life and it was time for someone else to share the love...

  9. I can only fully agree with what you have already said "It's such a heartwarming story, so nice to read something positive in the news instead of all doom and gloom. I hope the dress raises lots of money for such a worthwhile cause."

These days it is all too easy to just have bad news given and written about THIS STORY is heartwarming - I hope a big amount is raised, there is still a few more days to go.

    Great read - thank you.

    All the best Jan.

    1. I think the note was such a lovely touch and will definitely help sell the dress. It must have been hard for the gentleman to part with it after all these years but it's wonderful that he's able to see the good that the funds raised from it will do.

  21. I saw this online, then of course the papers picked up on it. It's good to know that it is going to raise so much money for such a good cause. The quilt group that I was a member of before we moved here supported our local hospice, raising a lot of money for them - so much indeed that several members of the group (including me) were invited to go to the hospice when Princess Anne (their patron) visited. She was delightful, and sent one of her protection officers to fetch from her car all the flowers she had been given earlier in the day to put in the wards (as she still had a lot of travelling to do, the flowers wouldn't have survived).

    1. What a lovely story. I've always been a big fan of Princess Anne, she seems to be a very grounded royal, in fact I've just heard a story today of how she was wearing an outfit to Ascot that she was seen wearing 35 years ago, and why not? We all have to be thrifty, why shouldn't they? Good for her.
