Ysatis

My favourite perfume of all time is Ysatis by Givenchy. I discovered this in my teens and I've never fallen out of love with it. I think it's a scent which you'd either love or hate, it's quite a strong, heavy fragrance so there's no middle ground.

I've been without any Ysatis for quite some time now, I tend to use much cheaper brands for day to day wear and I acquire more expensive ones as gifts. Over the Easter period, I decided that I'd take Eleanor in to Leeds and have a bit of a spending spree with my Boots Advantage Card points. I don't think I've ever redeemed any points since getting the card many years ago and I'd managed to save up over £100 worth.

I was umming and ahing wondering what to buy when I saw there was a reduction on Ysatis, a 30ml bottle had been reduced to £24.50 so I picked it up and put it in my basket. It was only after I'd thought about it that I decided to go for the larger 100ml bottle. This should have been around £75 but was reduced to £48.99, definitely worth paying double the price for more than three times the amount.

There wasn't really anything else I wanted apart from an eye pencil. I don't wear much make up but my old eye pencil had been sharpened and sharpened until there was hardly anything left of it so I bought another and then let Eleanor loose with the rest of my points. She'd been wanting a new ladyshaver, her old one had stopped working, so she got one of those as well as some make up. When everything had been put through the checkout I still had over £16 worth of points left on my card, so Eleanor had been quite restrained. Those £16 in points will start my saving off again.

It was lovely shopping for treats without having to spend any money, I shall definitely let my points mount up again so that I can do it again.

  1. Snap Jo. Ysatis is one of my favourites too but as you say it is quite a heavy perfume so I tend to keep that one for special occasions and wear something a little lighter for everyday. You really got a bargain didn't you. One of my other favourites and that of my daughter is Ghost Night and she recently got a set for half price in boots. We all love a bargain don't we.

    1. I do exactly the same as you, saving the Ysatis for special occasions. I was thrilled to bits with my bargain, it definitely made sense buying the larger bottle, it would have been silly not to. I love Ghost too, but I go for the plain Ghost rather than Ghost Deep Night. Well done to your daughter for getting a half price set, we certainly do all love a bargain.

  2. The best sort of shopping, I tend to save all my card points for a blow out.

    1. It felt so good handing over my points card and not having to spend any money at all. It isn't often that I'm so frivolous but it felt good for a change.

  3. Not familiar with your favorite perfume, have to give it a sniff next time I'm in the cosmetic department. I only use Opium.

    1. I remember Opium being really popular at one time, I remember my sister having it but I can't say I know what it smells like myself. I shall try it when I'm next at a perfume counter.

    1. It definitely was. I love shopping trips where I don't have to spend any actual money.

  5. I usually use them at Christmas, in the sales, so I feel I have had a real bargain. I got sent a new card earlier this year and stupidly didn't put it in my purse so I have to search the entire house to try and find it!!!! Grrrrrr. I haven't heard of this perfume before, I have a soft spot for Anais, Anais as I wore it on my wedding day.

    1. I use Anais Anais most of the time, it's such a lovely scent and reasonable too. My friend uses it but I think it smells different on her to what it does on me, I find that sometimes, I like the scent of a perfume yet when I try it myself it smells totally different.

  6. How satisfying to find that the points have mounted up over the years as you've shopped at Boots and you were able to redeem them for items that were needed or on your wish list! Enjoy the perfume :)

    1. I use Boots No 7 make up, not a lot, but I often get points vouchers sent to me to use when I buy it so that helps the points to mount up. It was lovely having so many points at my disposal, and nice that I could treat Eleanor with them too.

  7. What a lovely bargain you found for yourself. Boots points are useful things aren't they, although I never seem to have more than £20-worth. Still very nice though! CJ xx

    1. I very nearly bought the 30ml bottle, if I hadn't really thought about it I would have done, and then I'd have kicked myself for passing up such a bargain with the 100ml. I know lots of people won't use loyalty cards as it gives the store details of your spending habits, but I don't mind, to my mind it's a good perk.

  8. I spent my points at Christmas on a present for Sarah! I'm saving up again; but it takes me ages to collect. I don't buy much makeup, never mind.
Your haul sounds really good! Well done for getting a bottle of Ysatis and treating yourself.

    1. I think our daughters get a good deal, don't you? I use Boots No 7 make up, not much, but I usually use booster coupons when I buy anything so that builds the points nicely. As I left the house for our shopping trip, Mick made me promise to spend at least some of the points on myself and not spend the whole lot on Eleanor, he knows me so well.

    1. I don't know either of these, I shall try them next time I'm at the perfume counter. I think lots of us use a perfume we've discovered years ago, it's nice to have a scent which is familiar to us.

  10. Wow absolutely brilliant, win win all round, so lovely that you now have your favourite scent and Eleanor was pleased with her purchases too. Boots have started to deliver out here now so I'm sure we shall be able to save some points too. xcx

    1. It's quite a while since I've had any Ysatis so I'm really pleased with my purchase. Eleanor was all ready to spend her own money on a new ladyshaver so she was pleased that the points paid for that. She got a better model than she expected too as there was a deal on.

  11. I used to buy all our nappies at Boots just to get points..... isn't it funny how we fall in love with a scent and never want to use a different one. I don't know what Ysatis smells like but I shall sniff a tester next time I pass a shop. My favourite ever perfume is Whitelinen by Estee Lauder. The old proper one, not one of the newfangled creations like Whiteline Pure. I use it every day without fail. Happy point saving! x

    1. I think Boots have one of the better points systems, they seem to mount up much quicker than some of the others. I've heard of Whitelinen but I don't know what it smells like, I shall try it the next time I come across it. I think some scents can be a bit like a security blanket, the familiar seems safe somehow.

  12. I don't think I've ever smelled this perfume before. I will have to look for it. I love perfumes. I wore Burberry for a long time when I was younger. I don't wear perfume often anymore, but when I do I really like Clinique Happy. I love stores that have points and rewards. I save a lot of money on gasoline by shopping at one grocery store. I'd shop there anyway, so why not save money on gas too.

    1. I seem to stick with perfume I know and have used for a long time. There's so many different brands out there and then each brand keeps bringing out different ranges, it's just easier to stick to what you know sometimes. I think Daniel's using one of the Burberry aftershaves at the moment, I don't know any of the Clinique range, I shall look out for Happy and have a sniff when I can. I agree, stores which offer points and rewards are good, especially if you're shopping there anyway. I've had some good deals through reward cards.

  13. What a brilliant bargain, Jo - and using your points for it is even better! I don't know how much I have on my Boots card but it won't be anything like your £100!!

    1. I can assure you it's taken me years to get the amount up to £100. It was worth saving the points though, it meant that we could have a good spend all at once.

  14. I love when I can go shopping and not have to spend any money. You got a really good deal on the perfume. I haven't smelt it so I can't comment on whether or not I like it. The only thing is that I find I can't wear a strong smelling perfume as it gives me a headache.

    1. It was definitely worth going for the 100ml rather than the 30ml. Ysatis is quite strong so it would probably be one of the ones which gives you a headache, I've heard of perfume affecting a few people in this way.

  15. I have got out of the habit of wearing perfume - I must start again. I usualy treat myself to some duty free when on holiday. Isn't it good using points to buy things. I used to save up my Sainsbury's ones, but now they have halved their value it will take a while to have enough for a significant purchase.

    1. I haven't been abroad since 2008 but I used to love duty free shopping for perfume, that's where many of my previous bottles of Ysatis have come from. I'd heard about Sainsbury's points reducing in value, we only buy the odd thing from there so the points never really amounted to anything anyway, it'll be even less now.

  17. Somebody once told me that perfumes should be like clothes and every woman should have a whole wardrobe of them.... Personally I go through phases (which can last months) of wearing the same perfume just because I adore it. Currently I'm on my second bottle of D&G L'Imperatrice. Jx

    1. The chance would be a fine thing. Perfume to me is a luxury, it's not often I can afford the good stuff so I often have to wait for a birthday or Christmas before I get another bottle once I've run out. I don't know L'Imperatrice, I shall have a sniff when I'm next in Boots.

  18. Well done for treating yourself to something special. A 100 ml bottle will last you ages I bought one of my favourite Red Door, by Elizabeth Arden with some birthday money which I keep for special days out. My day to day stuff has been Cashmere from Next, my daughter in law bought me a set over a year ago and I'm still using it!

For every day I like Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps' it has been a staple part of my dressing table for quite some years .....

Perhaps I'll give Ysatis a try.

  20. Well done on finding a bargain and even better that you could use your points. I like Ysatis, my best friend at college used to wear it, so it reminds me of those days! Smells tend to remind me of certain times and bring back memories I thought I'd forgotten. xx

  21. Like you, I hardly ever wear makeup as I'm so allergic to most of it, but I do love perfume and my favourite is something with vanilla overtones. I especially like the one from The Body Shop. Glad you both had a lovely spending spree. Take care.

    1. I use Boots No 7 make up as it's hypoallergenic as I too am allergic to most of it. That's how I manage to build up my points, I usually buy the make up when there's an offer on of extra points, they add up much quicker that way. I remember using perfume from The Body Shop many years ago, not sure which one though.
